I thought judging by skin color was a bad thing?

what is it with americans and buying water bottles during any disaster? just use your taps to fill up some bottles at home for fuck sake, there's no reason to actually buy your water at the store just use a soda bottle or bear bottle or anything like that and fill it with water. you're telling me you guys have 0 bottles at home that you could fill or do you guys just have really shitty water over there?

I have damn good water. Throw a $30 filter on and it tests high and tastes like bottled. Water service is also the last thing I worry about losing in my neck of the woods. So even if we were in a months long quarantine or situation where food wasn't flowing to the grocery stores, I should have water.

That said I bought $10 worth of big packs from Walmart last month, which amounts to a 1 month drinking supply should we get say a boil water warning or we do actually lose water. But that'd be way down the line. Plus it was only $10.

People are stupid.
Simple as.

  1. convenience
  2. bacteria (that will grow in your non-sterile water bottles)
  3. laziness

mate you're watching several consoomer kultures deal with an epidemic all at once, the fuck do you expect from low-brow mass materialists? a month ago people in chyna were stabbing each other for hand sanitizer.

Hey can somebody shed some light on the legalities of enforced quarantine in the United States?

One of the weird things about the Wuhan flu deaths is that nobody seems to be reporting the ethnicity of the dead, except for a few Asian-Americans. Is it a coincidence or is this disease killing mostly Asians?
Also keep in in mind that there are a lot of Chinese workers in Italy and Iran.

It's honestly a question I've been wondering about as well. I wouldn't expect Iran to give out that info, but I'm not sure if they've given any racial/ethnicity data from Italy.

On March 6th Canada had 54 cases. Today's count is 199. Still only 1 death attributed to corona chan but she is dancing her way across almost all of the provinces now.

People I talked to at work today are finally taking this seriously and the "just the flu, bro" people have finally shut up.

Stores are being emptied at an alarming rate in my neck of the woods and I thank my fellow kiwis for their foresight because I stocked up early enough that I can avoid the stampede that is happening now.

The US government is allowed to detain you if it is legally permitted and the law is constitutional. We usually associate detainment with criminal activity. But detaining for criminal activity falls under the same category as compelling public interest. Just as society has a compelling interest to not see criminals roam free, the same goes for the diseased and US law allows for forcible detainment to enforce a quarantine. The US government supremacy power and control over interstate commerce also does in theory give it the power to close State borders if such closure serves a compelling national interest.

What the Federal government cannot do is enforce quarantines within the states themselves. In these situations the States have even broader authority and can even institute draconian measures that even the Federal Government is not permitted.

all you gotta do is look at the statistics yourself man
21 people. Compared to 59 who have recovered. The majority of all cases has still recovered and the majority of cases are not even in the "serious" category you linked to. A lot of them aren't in critical either.

You are correct that the US flu fatality rate is .1%. But right now, the US wuflu fatality rate is 2% (not .4 or .2 - a full 2%). Italy's fatality rate is currently 7%. So yes, corona chan is far deadlier than the flu. There is no comparison.

If you are old or have pre existing conditions like cancer, hypertension, COPD, asthma or autoimmune disorders catching this easily transmissible disease is life threatening. The real test of US mortality rate comes once the system is strained beyond providing real interventions to everyone in need. The fatality rate will get worse before it gets better.

Sounds like a lot of stuff already out there. Again, not saying it can't be bad, but I think people may be overzealous in thinking this is doomsday.

We really should have a thread dedicated to the Coronavirus in the United States, because of what is happening here and the amazing incompetence that will soon show the world a real shit show.

What is set to unfold over the next weeks in the United States will defy belief to all but those who have read the models and know what is certainly coming, what is probably coming and what could come.

"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night."

look at italy, look at that statistic and you tell me that isn't terrifying. almost 50% kill rate, almost as many in serious condition as have recovered.

The fact that no journalists are writing about the ethnicity of the Corona-virus deaths suggests there is a racial issue.
My guess is that Asians are the ones dying of the Wuhan Flu and that this fact is being covered up for some reason.

They don't generally report that at first. It is like so many Iranians, so many Chinese, so many Kenyans.

At this phase, the racial makeup of the infected doesn't say much, because there really hasn't been enough to make a statistical dent.

For example, if one old white guy and two old black guys in Georgia die, that tells you that two black guys and a white guy died of Corona Virus.

They break infected and deceased down by race, class, gender, region, etc, with the AIDS virus, for example, because the data is wide and deep. But when it was a novel infection, it was called "GRID" (Gay related Immunodeficiency). Epidemiologists saw some "gay" connection, but it took a few years for them to discover the precise mode of transmission (and non-transmission) and saw patterns in who was getting it, where, and under what sociocultural conditions.

With the WuFlu, we have a bunch of Han Chinese, in China, Italians, in Italy, British in the UK.

However it is telling, given the social behaviors of Africans and Middle Easterners, that they aren't catching it in droves.

Maybe it Is a hot dry climate?

Well, just tried to do a little grocery shopping. Normally, the middle of the day isn't busy. Today, everyone is out panic buying food now instead of just toilet paper.

Tried normal location, King Soopers.
No potatoes:

No meat ground beef and no chicken:

Then I went to Walmart and saw much the same thing.

Meat area:

I stocked some food, but not a lot. We have some frozen ground beef and canned food (corn, and chili), and plenty of rice.

Also at Walmart, they appeared to be keeping the toilet paper in the back, just inside the big entrance to the back and were handing it out to people one at a time. King Soopers had a sign outside about limiting water to one gallon I think, but inside I saw some spics loading up a cart with water. Pretty sure they didn't make it outside.
IT'S NOT IN THE WATER SUPPLY, STOP BUYING WATER YOU FUCKING MORONS. Guess what? It's also not in the meat supply so stop buying all the fucking meat.

Seeing the same here. No rice, flour, meat, bread, water, toilet paper, paper towels. hand sanitizer, hand soap, pasta, very little canned goods left. Tomorrow people are going to be fist fighting each other for the last can of soup.

Most distressing of all. A couple of our production people came down with symptoms of what may be the virus yesterday. If that is indeed the case it will knock out production of certain food related goods to a very large region of the country. If everyone is sick there will be no one to make the foodstuff.

No one has said its doomsday. But it is exceptionally bad. The deaths, the economic loss is catastrophic and will be lasting. What society looks like and feels like now is changing and will be quite different in the upcoming weeks and months.

This is no fleeting pandemic. The list of effects on society is too long to list but will be visible enough shortly. The countries that will fair worst are the ones that have the most to lose - the richer countries.

Think of it like this: you are hit by another car. Neither are insured. Your wife loses her legs, you have brain damage. Both passengers of both cars are financially ruined. On stats it is listed as a car accident with no fatalities - it hides the actual effects.
