Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Friend who had been telling me I was being silly about worrying went to the store last night. Turned away from his cart, turned back to find someone digging through his cart and taking things out. He body checked the asshole, took his stuff back, and took a few things out of that guy's cart. Apparently the asshole played dumb, like raiding someone else's cart is just something you do when shopping.

This shit is sadly going to become more and more common. Way too many assholes are already in light raiding mode. Targets that appear to be easy opportunity will be hit. Good on your friend for putting a stop to that shit with the quickness.

It's not a bad idea to have someone with you whose sole responsibility while shopping is to watch the cart.

IMO we are a lot closer to outright looting and lawlessness in certain areas than people realize. The last few days have really put fear into people. Panic is everywhere.

Forgive me if it's buried elsewhere in the thread, but what does the survivablity for someone with asthma seem to be, specifically in young adults?

Unknown. Most advice seems to be classifying them in the same body as people with Asthma. So 14% mortality.

Total amount of cases in the Netherlands is now 1135. We've had 8 deaths in a single day, upping the total to 20. The dead are all over 70 years old.
We have finally closed off air travel from China and other problem areas (too little too late).

Oh, this just in. The schools are to be closed. When and how will be disclosed later.

The curve sure looks familiar, but the numbers dont.

Coronavirus, when it manages to infect a group, will spread and infect like we have seen it. But notice how low Singapore's numbers are? Likely, the heat and humidity is interfering with Corona-chan's spread. Remember, singapore has had it a LOT longer then the west has, their cases stretch back to january, their first big explosion in cases in mid february, before italy's, and yet they are not up to 200 infected yet.

I dont think this is it fully it.
Singapore is mad hot and humid, outside. But all the buildings are lovely and air conditioned, and you spend a lot of time in them. I think it's because it's a well ordered , complete non-shithole. Very polite, clean, organised. Very high social pressure to do the right thing. It's years since I was there, but even the lower class places were clean , polite etc. The medical systemm seemed excellent as well, though I've no idea how far down the social scale that applies.
So Singapore numbers are what you get when people wear masks, have good hygeine, and don't spit on elevator buttons.

Basically, despite being largely ethnic chinese, it's nothing like the mainland. More like Japan. Or a really big well run shopping mall / airport .

Well, the Kent Corona hotel for King county's indigent has worked about as well as predicted:

Just had my 73 year old neighbour knock on my door asking if she could buy some toilet roll off me bless her. I wasn't hoarding it because of Corona but I had about 180 rolls in my separate garage (I park on my driveway so I just use it for tools, storage and my motorbike).

Because I buy in bulk for stuff like that, and cleaning products that don't go off, like boxes of bleach, 10ltr Washing Up Liquid, industrial sized floor cleaners, toilet cleaner, polish, 50kg bags cat litter, 512 pouches of cat food etc.. etc.. I only really shop about once or twice a year for stuff like that, and had done my last trip in September. (Me and 2 mates always go at the same time, and buying in bulk or catering sizes for non perishables and frozen is a great way to save money).

I'm not a heartless bastard, so I gave her an 18 pack for free, but I will remember it the next time she complains about having to sign for my parcels every other day.

IMPORTANT! My much needed AliExpress hub has finally arrived, but unfortunely the entire nation is in a lockdown and it's stuck in customs somewhere! Damn Wu flu! :'(

To be more on topic, here's a nice Amazon ad. Why are people buying eye protection?

Your eyeballs have a mucus membrane covering them. If vaporized spit from an infected person were to touch it, it will be immediately absorbed.

For once I hope the democrats get their way on sending everyone "free money". If the 80 million hourly workers in this country stop getting paid everyone is going to get nuked. That sort of disruption will cause massive damage up and down the supply chain. It will also make any meaningful quarantines impossible as the companies that employ these people often operate on thin margins and will go under if they stop business for extended periods of time. So if the risk is greater then the reward they will stay open.

This is some potentially useful info for people staying at home who are either being cautious, or who are health compromised. If you get home grocery delivery from Safeway, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, etc., or have food delivered from DoorDash, UberEats, Postmates, Grubhub, etc., Ask for “Contactless Delivery” or add a note saying to leave the items on the doorstep.

Keep in mind items like toilet paper have been locked down to "in-store" only (and good luck since shelves are bare and signs in stores in my area say they have no idea when they can restock).

Burgers (NY at least) had this shit too
I'm sure California/Washington pulled this shit too and now they (allegedly) have tanks.

"And a lot of people care about this disease we're suffering from"

Well, we wouldn't be suffering from it if your country could act intelligently for five seconds, and if you fuckers hadn't crossed every border in a futile and stupid attempt to try and save yourselves.

I'm not gong to go around and hug an infected populace that has bitten more bats than Ozzie Osbourne to try and earn societal brownie points, particular when that globalist horseshit got us into this mess.

Everyone in my little cul-de-sac knows I do anyway, because when I go I usually get a "Oh could you get me so and so while you are there?" By a few of my neighbours.

it's just she has to rely on home delivery for her shopping because her husband used to do it all before he died and she's a bit frail, and they haven't been delivering it, she said they substituted it this week with kitchen roll lol.

It's not that bad here anyway, went to the supermarket to get some limes this morning and there was nothing glaringly missing, some of the more expensive brands were looking a bit low, but it's not like the major cities where everyone is freaking out.

It's like the start of the War of the Worlds book, where devastation is happening elsewhere, but here, it's life as usual.

Although, a lot of people round here are in their late 60's, early 70's, so we shall see...

Because you can get infected through your eyes. Not everyone was doing it, but in some of the last videos of people doing their shopping before Wuhan shut down, a lot of people had goggles.

It's not really the most common route of infection but it can happen. It basically has to move from your conjunctiva to your tear ducts, get into your sinuses and then into your respiratory system.

So it's a pretty wandering path compared to just inhaling aerosolized droplets.
