Peru, 86 cases.

Patient zero has just been released from isolation, he's cured and feeling fine and won't have any sequel.

All flights were cancelled about one hour ago. The airport was a complete chaos. Thousands of people from all over the world are stuck here. Hundreds of Peruvians are also stuck outside and can't enter. The borders are close, so everybody's trapped.

Tomorrow, police and the army will be patrolling the streets. Today, they were warning people that there is zero tolerance tomorrow. Husband still has to work, he's been given a pass, a document certifying he has to go to work and comeback. He's thinking about take a leave and stay home to help with the house and the kids. They're fine, also the old folks living here. We're checking our temperature every day, morning and night (me and hubs, I mean). Our chances are low, but better be safe as we're the only ones leaving the house.

I'm fine, and despite I haven't done anything particularly tiresome, I feel exhausted. i think it's because I'm a bit afraid things will be ugly later. Its just day 1 and people are runnung around panicking. I just need to cry it out a bit and I'll be fine. Going to bed soon.

We'll be fine, though. We're gonna make it. Pray for Italy and Spain, they need it the most. Stay safe, kiwis, we're gonna make it!

Trump did a travel ban to and from China all the way back in January. If Trump decided that the entire nation quarantine at the same time, there’s no way people would stick with it, and Trump would still be called racist and xenophobic for it. You people are never pleased.

I don't know there seem to be two camps, one side saying fuck this shit its not lethal enough to warrant closures and shutdowns and the other camp saying we should and must shut everything down.

Camp one are the risk takers really wanting to roll the dice on increasing the chance of unfavorable mutations happening and camp two doesn't really have a plan other then hunker down and hope the virus goes away.

I think most experts would agree at this point that the best way to deal with this issue in its current state is to limit the spread and have people slowly get infected over time to build up herd immunity while alleviating stress on hospitals. This is why all the twitter cat ladies are saying flatten the curve all of a sudden because they heard it from a doctor on the news station and want to sound like they know what they are talking about but are really just parroting words.

here is one for ya

The Puyallup Police Department in Puyallup, Washington is asking all criminals to put a halt to criminal activity as the coronavirus pandemic is underway.

Due to local cases of #COVID-19, PPD is asking all criminal activities and nefarious behavior to cease. We appreciate your anticipated cooperation in halting crime & thank all the criminals in advance. We will certainly let you know when you can resume your normal criminal behavior.

Let the market decide? Should the various gov't have a totally hands off approach? Let people do as they will?

I am not being obstreperous here, I am truly curious. Where is the balance? I certainly don't want to live under a govt like CCP, where they bar their citizens into their homes and force people into sick wards. Rekieta was specifically speaking about the case where the man who was diagnosed with Covid checked himself out of the hospital AMA(against medical advise) and then said he would not confine himself to his home, and was subsequently arrested.

I value my Constitutional rights. I also do not trust the govt to always act in my best interest. Is all this just a panic reaction by all these countries? What would be the motive to tank their own economies? I am not conspiracy minded, but I can understand that some may attribute nefarious motives to such an unprecedented display of gov't control over their populations. Slippery slope?

It's a panic reaction because it's new and no one has a direct solution or way to control it. It's hitting quickly, and people are demanding a reaction, be it media or be it scared people. If we assume benign incompetence, the government feels the need to look like it's doing something, The only something it can do, however, is behave in a totalitarian way to make people feel safer. Even in the benign scenario where it's given back at the end, that power taken just paves the way for a malicious government to take more in the future.

The twitter and facebook cat ladies should flatten their own curves, if they want to survive the airborne chink aids, if your BMI is over 25, you're pretty much fucked.

Me too! Thanks to Alton Brown I have a huge appreciation of cooking. Got the whole series downloaded. Will probably rewatch it on while on lock down. His sarcado recipe gave me an appreciation for Sardines.

And Crazy Uncle Alton even has your Kung Flu Survival needs taken care of. Is there nothing this god of a man cannot do?

Great response. Thank you.
I have no doubt, that after this virus has run it's course, the ramifications of how gov't acted in response to Covid will be studied. And as always, hindsight will be 20/20.... 2020?

Malicious government. That is what we must all guard against. Thus, the second amendment. My gut tells me that the motives at this point are benign, but my brain tells me to be wary. To quote Ben Franklin; “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

and between october and march the flu killed between 22 thousand and 55 thousand people in the usa alone (and that's a low estimate). what was your point again?
You mean the unnaturally long flu season caused by unseasonably warm weather in some of the most inhabited regions of the US (the Eastern Corridor has had like 4 days of below 40 temps or some shit like that)? That flu season that's STILL FUCKING GOING BY THE WAY?

It's almost like being using an unusually long flu year as your comparison to this virus that hasn't even gotten done with its spread yet or something is dishonest or something.

Seen some reservations closing down casinos and kicking all the white people sperging on Twitter.

Ya know, considering what happened the last time white dudes showed up possibly carrying diseases, I can't say I would blame them there red-skinned buffalo fuckers from driving the white, asian, and black invaders straight off the Rez and into a fucking canyon.

A lady on TV was saying that if you feel sick you should go to your family doctor first. Well doctors are paranoid too. Mine wouldn't see me and told me to go to the ER. The ERs are going to be packed regardless.

There was a homeless guy hacking up lungs outside of Walgreens asking people for change. I am afraid that people like this are going to be a huge hazard.

Start of the day in Poland: 28 new cases and unfortunately fifth death, which comes as a surprise since I didn't know about anyone in serious condition in this particular hospital. But of course as the number of hospitalized people grows, it's progressively difficult to obtain details.

Good news: one of our first corona victims, a woman in her 70s, is said to be recovering following a therapy of antivirals.
