Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

EDIT: Oh look!

Wow, it's almost like China is rationally retaliating against ZOG ejecting Chinese journalists. How dare the Chinese government actually stand up for the Chinese people?

Several states are activating the National Guard to help with Covid-19. Now, how are soldiers supposed to fight against a virus...?

When I was a firefighter, we had the National Guard called out for natural disasters more than once. The first time or two they got called out, and I was knee-deep clearing downed trees off roadways, I would get super excited that the NATIONAL FUCKIN' GUARD was coming to lend my ass a hand. I stopped getting excited when I found out that they always just wound up passing water bottles out at community centers and that's it.

They are going to be moving needed suppies, do cleaning/decon of places needed. They could also be used to enforce orders of state governors, say like if Iowa shut down restaurants and bars and felt they didnt have enough cops to make it stick.

More tiring fear-mongering:

I do some surveys from time to time for a little extra income, and I took one with topical questions about it.
Some of the options for questions akin to "When do you expect things to go back to normal?" were "I NEVER EXPECT THINGS TO GO BACK TO NORMAL"

The world has always gone back to normal from shit 9000000000000x worse than this, and unless you're 2, you've lived through an epidemic before.

Others included "I FEAR THE COMPLETE AND TOTAL SHUTDOWN OF MY COUNTRY OVER THIS"

Funny how it didn't happen to China, the epicenter. This is tiring, to say the least.

Back in elementary school, outbreaks were like this: "There's a bad flu going around, be careful if you're not healthy or older." I miss those times.

This is beginning to suck.

Haven't left the house since Friday at 5 pm.

If it were just me and my husband, I would be more like "meh ...." OK whatever ... But don't want to take risks with two little kids and a fetus.

Cases in LA County have doubled in the past couple of days.

Now this is going to go on for the next couple of years?

I am skeptical about this "herd immunity" being that there is not much evidence for it,

The national guard can provide manpower to hospitals. Especially for their shit jobs like cleaning and disinfecting wards. This is usually done by poorly paid monkeys who are probably not showing up to work right now. Then there is the obvious need to beef up security at medical facilities. Especially if there is a mad scrum for limited resources.

stop being rational you fool, obviously they're here to round us up into the FEMA death camps

China is a totalitarian state covered with a thin veneer of popular rule and has very little trouble coercing or threatening its populace into compliance. Even the rumblings here about sheltering in place being unconstitutional would be met with some level of response. Many other parts of the world will struggle much harder with getting people to cooperate, regardless of how one might feel about it.

Do agree with fearmongering as a rule, though.

We didn't have a 24hr news cycle when we were kids.

Anyone else find it weird how African countries are only now seeming to get hit but this? With Chinese investment in Africa and also different lifestyle there, you'd have thought African countries would be ahead of Europe on this. Maybe a tourist thing?

Now I know this is out there. But try to follow me. Have you considered the African Countries might not have the infrastructure to identify and test for the virus?

How many people get such mild of symptoms that they don't even get tested thus making the mortality % higher than it actually is? Watching the world strangulate themselves over this has been crazy to watch.
Check South Korea and China, which thanks to effective governments, a lack of economic sanctions targeted to murder their citizens, and a functioning healthcare system were able to test populations and respond effectively. South Korea's coronavirus fatality rate is only 5-10 times that of the seasonal flu (although it is more infectious).

Those countries which have been targeted with genocidal sanctions, those countries which don't have effective governments (Italy, US), and which don't have a functioning healthcare system (US) are seeing different outcomes.

I've seen four Chinooks fly over in an hour's time just now, very rare to see them given I'm in a rural area and quite far from any military installations or facilities. Kind of eerie to watch Vietnam Era big boys fly over while I'm listening to NIN's Year Zero. Nothing in my county yet as far as anyone knows but it's most likely here. All of the counties adjacent have at least one case so it has to be here. People here freak out every time some military hardware flies over, though, almost like they've seen a UFO. Amish people lost their shit when a B2 flew over once.

There's just an eerie slow burn kind of feeling to the air. The roads have been mostly dead even in town. No pedestrians at all and this is considered a tourist town for reasons beyond my understanding.

It’s probably an activated National Guard unit. I think a lot of the Chinooks are slowly ending up in Gu

I dealt with them a number of times similarly. Generally they were great after storms because they knew how to handle chainsaws and could clear roads. They weren’t quite as useful in major brush fires as, as you say, they mostly get to hand out water and direct traffic. I’m sure that varies by state. The East Coast Guard units don’t see a lot of firefighting. The guys out in California May be a different story. I can’t imagine what use they could be in dealing with the Chinese Plague, other than standing on street corners to discourage looting? Maybe once the zombies start showing up?

Agreed, SK is testing the shit out of people and they have like a %0.5 mortality rate (most it being the elderly, which is no different from the flu.)

local talk radio show I catch regularly was already massively uppity about it and starting to get under the hood about what's really allowed or not

The world wouldn't strangulate itself this much if The Chinese govt would have been more transparent, accepted the many times the U.S. offered help for their outbreak, Trump extended his hand more than a few times and they just slapped it. The fact that they are still not giving all the data, being more transparent and really disclosing what's going on there, kicking out journalists, is just making things worse for the rest of the world, we are talking about the survival of probably a few millions people at the very least, China also depends on the rest of the world for their own economy so it's a fucking selfish, dick move to just not come forward and finally speak out, we are still trying to figure out the extent of the damage of this virus as we learn day after day it is way worse, affect younger people than expected from their faked stats. Please.

We are still navigating in the mist of what this virus is really capable of as we speak, there's still studies about it all around the world and scary discoveries about it just day after day.
