Well, that didn't take long. I imagine other areas will follow suit.

10:57 a.m. Alameda County to release nearly 250 from county jail: Two hundred and forty seven inmates in Alameda County were approved for early release after sentencing modifications, according to the county‘s sheriff’s office. Additionally, 67 people were released by courts on their own recognizance.

Holy shit some of these possible side effects are horrifying.

It's an immunosuppressant. Comes with the territory. The other one being suggested as a treatment is used to treat maleria and lupus.

Common hydroxychloroquine side effects may include:

  • headache, dizziness, ringing in your ears;
  • nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
  • loss of appetite, weight loss;
  • mood changes, feeling nervous or irritable;
  • skin rash or itching; or
  • hair loss.

One thing to keep in mind about side effects is the most severe ones are often less common. This doesn't mean they won't happen, just means they aren't as likely. This also doesn't mean they aren't serious. Take them seriously if they show up while on a medication.

U.S. Department of State raises its Global Health Advisory to level 4 advising U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19
They're like 3 months late on that huh

This is one of the most striking things to me. It kind of feels like post-9/11. Everyone is getting together (by standing apart) to get together. Good American values, feels special. Americans are actually pretty good at this sort of thing, although we've been spared a lot of really serious disasters on a national scale (smaller regional ones happen all the time though with storms etc. leading some people to be better prepared mentally and materially.) I feel like apart from people who are naturally anxious (including a few family members of mine) and/or who sperg about whatever the news says, who are freaking out a bit and occasionally you see someone kind of snap, but generally people are being good to each other. It's a good feel. If it lasts, any attempt to smack Trump with the coronavirus will backfire spectacularly.

I was in a long line today (OK, the pot shop ... was open but the line has been insane recently, people are stocking up...but talking about a fucking recession-proof business, they are making money hand over fist) and some sperg and/or intoxicated person was in line after me. He kept breaking social distancing and getting up in my face even touching my shoulder at one point, talking about all sorts of crazy shit including the "program" he was in (mental illness or substance abuse, idk.) I just kind of turned my back and ignored him which, being a sperg, he didn't get very quickly. Then they called for the last group of people before making people get appointments like an hour and a half later. I turn around and the sperg, who, remember, was behind me in line had jumped ahead of me and that was the cut-off. I was trying to shun him and not catch the coronavirus from him but he wound up seeing an opportunity to sneak in ahead of me. Back to my first point, this was the first dickish behavior I've seen lately apart from a Negress bellowing at some poor customer service agent, which is common enough to forget about. People in general are being extra nice, even people working the register and shit who are usually fairly sullen.

We need a disaster to become a polite society. Maybe the accelerationists are right about that in a way. Either that, or we are all experiencing the joy that comes with the blessing of Papa Nurgle.

Everybody was really polite to each other after 9/11 for about two weeks. Then we went back to the petty bickering.

I had to double check this was real. I'm floored. I am really glad SOME of our political leaders are actually working together on this. We might have a chance, guys.
It's only because some dems are very aware of how a chunk of their base only give a shit for gibs.

I'm not shitting on the idea of gibs in this case though, given a decent portion of the US can't work or receive pay at this moment due to the Wuhan Flu.

The main issue I’ve had taking it while working abroad are the absolutely insane nightmares it gives you. Really trippy. I’d rather take chloroquine than Lariam, which I’ve seen people have psychotic breaks on. Chloroquine doesn’t work everywhere any more, loads of resistance (as there is to almost all anti malarial drugs.) it’s not a bad drug, you need high/long term doses to make you go blind and most people tolerate it pretty well. If you read the package insert of any drug you’ll see a list of side effects, they legally have to list everything.

That's actually the right thing to do. For those not aware their is a difference between County Jails and Prisons. Jails are the local lockups. They mostly hold the petty offenders. DWI's, Drunk and Disorderly, Petty theft. People who's sentences are generally measured in months if not weeks. The few long time inmates they may hold are the mildest of the milquetoast that they are being paid to house by the State Prisons. Outside of the Major Felon's that the Jail is holding during trial or awaiting transfer to Prison, the petty stuff they should just commute to community service and get them the hell out of the cells. For everybody's safety. "Show up next Tuesday to mow lawns and pick trash on the highway".

That's why I wonder what will happen here. Someone I forget who described the situation as a slowed-down plane crash lasting months. I feel like whenever some kind of "new normal" comes in people actually flock to it. I wouldn't be surprised if people start getting seriously irritable though due to islation and being cooped up with their families and stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some murders or crazy shit like that too as well as people getting ruder. But in all that I still think there could be some solidarity, even if grudging, well beyond two weeks. Rate me rainbows if not.

So Italy now has more Covid-19 deaths than China. It's really a feat to be so goddamn dirty that you kill the other side of the world with the unstoppable force of your filth.
Italy was super tied to China (having a lot of commies helps) like a favorite girl in the whorehouse though, and the whore came down with corona.

I'm familiar with the difference, but the thing is that prosecutors are pushing to release people from actual prisons. This is just the first step down the slope.

I used to work on SI, in fact a lot of it was driving around and it's the best place to drive in the five boroughs. Reminded me of California as far as that goes. I don't have a car so I guess I'm waiting for a test. : (

I have reached a peace treaty with @tuscangarder. My secret police will liaise with hers on lists of liberals to be killed and possibly eaten in our respective spheres of influence.

Did some looking around and shopping today. Allowed by the local NKVD during "shelter-in-place".

This morning walked through discount grocery store No eggs or milk. No water. A little meat. Don't believe they have been restocked.

Just got back from Costco. Busy. Item limits on eggs and milk. Saw water available, didn't look for paper products.

On the way back went to the commissary. Big sign out front with letter signed by garrison commander. No guests allowed. Military ID card holders only. Caregivers for disabled can come in with signed letter of authorization. Only one shopping cart per shopper.

Item limits on some water. Milk available. Almost no eggs, but more due in Friday. No toilet paper or paper towels. Almost no tissue. Item limits on paper products. Little bread. Low on some soda and some chips. Plenty of produce available. Employees busily restocking. Employee told me Tuesday morning huge line waiting to get in. Police had to be called. Place was crazy. Things were okay today. Another employee told me of seeing the same people coming in over and over, buying the same things. Only so much that can be done.

So would say we are seeing item limits on certain items in all stores. Would hazard to say that supplies of in-demand items are starting to come back. My guess - supplies of most in-demand items back to normal in a couple of weeks.

Seriously, WWII Americans would laugh their asses off at those going nuts with panic buying. Think they would also laugh their asses off at a country scared shitless about a disease that's caused less than 175 deaths while pretty much ignoring the 22,000 dead of the "regular" flu since 29 September.

I hate to be that guy, but they really should be in mopp 4. If they got infected and then took it back to their unit it could fuck everything up later down the road if the situation gets far worse.

Coronavirus: The detectives racing to contain the virus in Singapore

In mid-January, a group of 20 tourists from the Chinese city of Guangxi arrived in Singapore for Chinese New Year. They visited some of its most glamorous sights.

Also on their itinerary was a non-descript traditional Chinese medicine shop, selling crocodile oil and herbal products. The shop is popular with mainland tourists.

They were served by a dedicated saleswoman who showed them various products, even massaging medicated oil on their arms. The Chinese group finished the tour and went home.

But they had left something behind.

Medicine shop
At that point, the 18 coronavirus cases in Singapore had only been found in arrivals from mainland China.

But on 4 February, Singapore's government reported that the virus had spread into the local community - and the Yong Thai Hang Chinese medicine shop was its first cluster, with a local tour guide and that enthusiastic saleswoman falling ill.
