Wow, normal people are panic buying toilet paper and these oligarch assholes are panic buying medical devices. I would be very surprised if it wasn't the case that this isn't just Russia and the elites all around the world are doing similar things too.

Here's just a list of some of the people that died from Coronavirus so far:

Liang Wudong - Chinese doctor who was the first to die due to nosocomial infection.

I feel really bad for the musicians and medical people. A lot less love for politicians and religious maniacs.

Assisted Suicide...especially since opiates suppress respiration. That being said, if nothing else can be done for the patient, bring on the morphine for me, please. I'd rather go out on the wings of Morpheus than to be caught in the horror of not being able to draw a breath.

Me too. I'm claustrophobic as fuck and know I couldn't handle a vent. If I even got one that is. I figure at this point if I have to go near a hospital,I'll sharpie 'no vent,no resuscitation, in case of impending death, just relieve my suffering, thxbai' on my chest and hope for the best...

The American economy is not doing well.

So we have been having full blown gas shortages in my area and I mentioned it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep car tanks relatively full in case we see another panic wave or if this thing really gets worse.

The replies I got:

"Well it's not like we can go anywhere anyway"

"I'm not one to give into panic I think will be fine"

The sheer stupidity of people in this day and age is unreal. People have been way too pampered. I'm all for not panicking, but taking prudent action in the face of continuing problems should be common sense.

Yeah, early mornings have been the worst for crowds, because most are looking for stuff that might have just gotten stocked from the truck.

If you're going to buy something you don't think will be completely sold out, the late afternoon is usually calmer in most places, because people know the "hot ticket" items will be sold out by then.

Everyone wants the mid shifts now at my old job now because that's when there are fewer customers who might kill them with their diseased coughs.
This was a good suggesting in the end. I still had to hit up 3 different shops but all we re-stocking as I came in so managed to get what I needed.

Still saw the security guy chasing down multiple people telling them to put stuff back because they are limited to X number per person. They would all give him a look like he just farted in their face. Fucking come on people, you know whats going on by now and still insist on being part of the problem and when someone pull you up on it you treat them like they are the dickhead. Absolute scum.

Another number is getting close too.

Bullshit! The kiwifarms servers simply don't have the capacity to process that many posts. It's a self serving lie.

I wonder, would it be helpful to bring back the practice of innoculatuin for those in isolation using virus samples from less dangerous casses. Like we used to do with small pox to build herd immunity?
It sounds mad, but I think it might be a sensible approach. The modern public wouldn't accept it though.
You're right that variolation was a standard weapon against smallpox before Jenner did his work. Smallpox was fucking incredibly bad though. 60% caught it , Case fatality rate of 33%. Basically in Europe you had a lifetime 20% chance of dying from this horrific disease.

IDK, I can think of a lot of vulnerable people (myself included) that would voluntarily do this. Getting a guaranteed weakened version of the virus under medical supervision to immunize yourself against the far more dangerous wild version? Awesome. Hell, if we could immunize vulnerable populations, the entire fear of coronavirus would be practically wiped out. It's only scary because its killing so many vulnerable people, take them out of the equation and deaths are as rare as the flu, which nobody panics about these days. It would also free up tons of medical resources for times of crisis, which would temper fears. IME most people are panicking over the medical system collapsing, and they are panic buying because they never want to go outside until the coast is clear.

Then again I think being transparent with data and testing would quell a lot of panic VS the half speak horseshit the government is currently doing, so what do I know?

Mass protests starting in Pakistan. They can't find any of the Iranians that were quarantined, so that might be another outbreak center of the disease.

And Pakistans medical system is probably even more of a basket case then Irans. This is gonna git gud. They probably won't even close all those mosques because its haram and Allah will protect.

Just imagine.

Than stop watching them you sick fuck
seriously it's just the same shit over and over anyway
People panic, ventilators and not being able to breathe on your own is scary. Add in that they have a fever and a wicked cough, going from being relatively healthy for some and then literally at death's door. Being surrounded by people who're going through the same thing and a medical system that's trying it's best. This is to be expected. Terrible but expected. I had a neighbor who passed away from the standard flu a few years ago because she would have massive panic attacks when they tried to mask or tube her, they put her in a coma as a last resort and she never came out of it.

They're talking triage and they're talking assisted suicide but if you're too the point that you have a choice between them dying and you throwing any possible medicine at them to see if something sticks, they should choose the meds. If they're on their way out anyway might as well use them to see if any combinations of meds they can think of might work. You can't really do worse than death.
and it's fucking NPR

Very different amount of recoveries according to the live tracker.

France will provide an update in just over one and a half hours so I expect this to jump quite a bit again.
Italy update coming in about 6 minutes, expecting the worst.

No reported recoveries for the day it seems.

Is it confirmed that there is actually a weaker strain? Or is that still just speculation?
Even with a standard strain, it may be worth while infecting the more robust part of the key worker population ASAP, rather than wait for them to catch it during the peak period. Get every medical worker & delivery driver under 40 in otherwise good health to go kiss an infected patient . They'll mostly be infected and recovered in 4 weeks, and the hospitals aren't overwhelmed yet. Bit of a big ask though, even if it does give them a better survival chance than just waiting your turn.

This.

I'm in good health but if I could get a weak version of this thing and walk away with immunity, I'd probably jump on it. Especially if it's true this will be an ongoing thing for months.

There are at least 2 known main strains, but whether one is more dangerous then the other is still speculation. Lab results will take months to conclude. Ideally, they'd be using a purposely weakened version like they used to do with the flu vaccine years back. The speculation is that the second strain is more infectious but less deadly, which would make sense from an evolutionary standpoint (evolution prefers less deadly versions of diseases when there is competition).

The only issue is that this would have had to start back in January at the latest. Think if the disease was purposely ripped through medical staff NOW, of all times. We are in the middle of an infectious upswing, infecting them now would kill thousands and collapse the medical system.

Such measures, if taken, would likely occur in warmer months. Right now they need to avoid infection whenever possible.
