Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

So question for medical kiwis, how long can you be on a ventilator for?
From firsthand experience with a family member, the docs didn't want to keep them on a vent longer than 7 days if they could help it. First 36 hours were lying on their stomach with paralytics because they were fighting the ventilator. I think they ended up leaving it in for 10 days because they didn't come out of their coma as fast as expected. The very existence of that foreign object in the body attracts a bacterial infection and they were on IV antibiotics the entire time.

111 new cases over here in Poland for a grand total of 535, I believe that's it for today. Not a great day but no tragedy by any means, it's roughly according to the new forecasts corrected to account for the past days' slow growth. We just keep doing our thing and nuke the large cities if that fails. The weather is deteriorating swiftly and is expected to hover around zero in upcoming days, but if anything, maybe this will help keep people inside.

A little fun with numbers... We still count five count Corona-chan victims, which out of 535 gives us a current death rate of below 1%. Thing is, while there are five officially counted deaths, actually seven people infected with the coronavirus have died. How? Well, one guy killed himself for unclear reasons. And as for the young woman who recently died soon after giving birth, the doctors have judged that pospartum sepsis would have killed her anyway, coronavirus or not, so she was scratched out of official statistics. I obviously can't judge if that's the right call, just hope we don't start fudging the numbers like Germany does. Not the best role model (sorry German kiwis, nothing personal).

The wealthy are panicking because they can't build an ICU in their vacation homes because *gasp* they can't get ventilators. I wish English had a word like schadenfreude.

I would hope that my state agrees with this thinking, but then I look at who our secretary of health is:

A troon. Probably not happening here.

That's the part that startled me. Who the fuck does that on a whim? (Besides California, we know they're the epitome of incompetent).

This pandemic hasn't even started to cascade and they're already doing it. What's going to happen there a few weeks down the road?
Looks like i still didn't understood correctly... it's the fucking ELECTRICITY she shut down ... Oo that's 1000 time worse i would freak the f out if anyone cut the electricity in the middle of this !!!

>Trump's approval rating spikes
>Media rated lowest trustworthiness of all news sources for Kung Pao Sicken

Media: "Here's why we're the only ones you should listen to."

Do a flip, media.
The media is letting the mask slip once again.

Meanwhile you get stuff like this from Rolling Stone :lunacy:

Are you saying there are differences between men and women? Sir, I find this post to be both biologically determinative and bigoted. You will retract it and schedule with human resources for immediate sensitivity training.
IT'S MA'AM.

(Don't smash stuff on your way out.)

Men are in general more burdened by most diseases. They get more, and die more, with the exception of autoimmune stuff and a few other things.
There are a number of theories mostly to do with reproductive fitness and roles., and resource partitioning.
Women, don’t forget, have to host an immunologically foreign being (a foetus) in their body for nine months a time without rejecting it or becoming too sick so their immune systems are different to men’s. Women react differently to all sorts of immune stimuli and even their macrophages react differently.
Men and women are biologically different right down to the cellular response level (sorry, troons...) I’m sure I’ve read that men get more lower respiratory tract infections too.
Men draw the short straw on a lot of disease related stuff. Evolutionary theories can’t really be proven but they’re interesting all the same.

It's ok @Otterly he meant nothing by it.

The Public Health England government has produced a pretty decent tracker website

I mean the dot in London means 'all the cases in England' which is a shame. I bet they got that fucking halfwit Matt Hancock to sign off on it and it never occurred to him to say 'why not show where the cases are by or NHS region and not just lump all the cases together and put a big blob over London because that is misleading'

Wouldn't be the first time the German government has covered up mass death...

Hancock's doing a fucking good job, lay off.

Also, you can click on the ULTA to get a county/local authority figure. Thankfully loved ones of mine are in Lincolnshire which has 12 cases total.

London responsible for basically half of England's fucking cases though. Fuck you, you city pricks.

National guard vehicles being moved to assist with outbreak in California.

That's just what happens when god decided to give Snakeybus a try.

On the one hand, China has a long and interesting history, a fun mythology, tasty food(referring to chinese food places in the US/West in general here, obviously), some very attractive women, some insightful philosophy(so I've heard anyway) and appealing works of art, sculpture and architecture. On the other hand, gosh, I can't help but to think that the Chinese controlled part of East Asia could do with multiple bucketfuls of instant sunshine for some reason.

I wonder why that is...🤔

So long as the CCP still exists, the chinese will always be the sick men of asia.

Uh-oh, looks like Zombies are confirmed for Patch 1.8 of Corona Chronicles....

That just looks like regular america to be honest.

Somebody's heart is beating after they die?

What the hell?

You can be braindead and still have a beating heart. That's why chickens survive for small periods of time after being decapitated.

A little run down of what has transpired / happened in France, it's not much but hold on to what the corrupt government from Macron has done so far :

Agnès Buzyn, former 1st minister of health in France, after loosing the post of mayor in the first round of municipality votes for Paris, (and losing her 1st minister place and the mayor position in march) told the press she knew everything about the coronavirus situation in China all going back to 20 december.

That same health minister has a husband, Yves Lévy :

Yves Lévy is the ex director of the Biological project of the Wuhan Laboratory (no joke)

Hold on to your butts now : HydroxiChloroquine has been tested and widely used in China to cure patients and successfully so (with additional meds around it of course), but Agnès Buzyn signed the Plaquinine / hydroxichloroquine medication as "highly venomous" the 13 january 2020.

She admitted that she warned the vice president in january of the scary situation in China, that she also warned the president about it the end of january (wich they didn't took her advice, has the 1st minister of health, go figure why they didn't, saying other medical staff didn't see the emergency )

Didier Raoult has been removed from the team of specialists surrounding the president, when the cure has been tested on over 50 patients and 94% of them recovered and seen the virus completely gone from their system (even if there is some side effects sometimes, but very mild, also, this med cannot be really used to save patients in very severe condition, you need to test people and discover they have covid 19 and administrate the med as soon as possible so they don't develop the most severe symptoms, or else, if you are already in ICU, it could just precipitate your death as your system wouldn't be able to fight off side effects along your very severe state already)

in early January Agnès Buzyn has sent 17 fucking Tons of medical supplies (including masks) to China, depleting the 1 trillion masks stock France had since H1N1

The 19 march, we learned that all the pharmacies in hospitals (the one that usually are closed behind digicodes and need medical personnel keys to open even after you open them with digicodes) Have been pillaged from all the plaquinine / Hydroxichloroquine stocks, there is 0 meds left, and they are banned from being sold without a prescription in all of France.

--------------------------------------------------

People start to believe all of these aren't coincidence and the government want them dead. The syndicate and union of Medics of France is suing the government for the Medical mask supply and chloroquine supply scandal. Union of lawyers are getting on it but of course the government is saying "we will speak about that after the crisis"

There is a new study in Belgium about "fine particles" or Particle matters (PM) and the ability of the virus to travel VERY LONG DISTANCES through pollution of the air and whatnot , this is very frightening because we knew it was aerosolizing itself at some point in China and reports came out , a little bit coocoo, of the virus being able to travel multiple kilometers.

This study tends to prove it, it travels through fine particles, it can be as tiny as 3 microns and get very very high in the air / atmosphere. I feel like we were right about wondering if OPEN AIR cremation in some area of China would lead to the virus travelling very far, very high in the air. Every fucking thing we were worried about and read about it from China is just becoming a reality.

Google translation of the article :

Remember when we were joking about this in february :

And wondering if using simple crematoriums , or burning bodies in the open in China, couldn't burn the fine particles if the virus survives the heat and shit ? Oh well... That was a joke but pollution and atmospheric particles / smog more than probably helping it travel is nothing to cough at.

Is it just me or everyone would cheer if Macaroni just got shot already? Jfc that's corrupt.
Can someone explain to me what is happening in Germany and why the numbers seem so low?

Go a few pages back I'm sick of seeing this fucking question plastered over and over.

MEME TIME:
Explanation and translation. This moment comes from my hometown of cadiz. You see, long time ago on TV Miliky, a clown, posted songs with his group called "los payasos de la tele" (the clowns of tv, they were all clowns. In the good sense) one of their songs which was meant to be a conversation (the singer sung "1" and the audience answered "2") went:
1) Hello mr Pepito
2) Hello mr Jose
1) did you pass by my home?
2) by your home I did pass
1) did you see my grandma?
2) I saw your grandma
1) goodbye mr Pepito
2) goodbye mr Jose
(It was obviously meant for kids)
So on this clip we see
Cop: hello mr Pepito
Neighbors: hello mr Jose
Cop: did you pass by my home?
Neighbors: by your home I did pass
Cop: well that's not good! You gotta stay indoors!

CEO types like Trump are admittedly not 100% reliable but you definitely get the impression they survived as long as they did because they've got a sort of sixth sense in working out what advice to trust even if they don't have time to learn about technical details. I think it's a bit like dogs can sense who is a good and trustworthy person and who needs to mauled badly even if they don't understand stats.
Yeah, I mean if you can't trust people who promote conspiracy theories about DA LIBS using airborne lasers to start fires, who can you trust? Trump proves his own quality of character and his ability to judge the character of others yet again.

Just to add, remember that hospital in a little town that had 7 cases on Wednesday? Well, now there are 27 confirmed cases +further suspected among staff and patients. Which does not look good at all.
As for the deaths, just read about a quarantined guy who died in his home. He was waiting to be tested. Now only post-mortem will tell what exactly got him.

I'm beginning to unironically hope that all of these disinfo pushers and assholes who fan the flames of public hysteria are soon without jobs too.
I do too. Here's a thought: CNN gets a large proportion of viewership from the contracts they have with airports to play CNN constantly. Nobody is going to airports right now, possibly for months. CNN pays the airports to show CNN, now nobody is watching. I'm not sure if there is a contingency in these contracts for airports getting shut down, or how much CNN actually gets out of this arrangement. But it's probably not good for CNN.

I mean.. firing people, making them homeless and restricting their diet to processed food is probably a bigger problem.

I absolutely agree with you. The reason why I thought it was stupid is that everyone is apparently working a schedule like my friend where it goes Early - Late - Off - Early - Late - Early / Late - Off.

This is all of the remaining employees at the airport, even if they previously worked all days or all nights. It just seems really inefficient and stupid to me.

How the fuck do you survive?
Most likely lives in a place with a super low cost of living.
Nope, I live in the North East cost of living is in fact not "super low"

I survive (quite well actually) by not getting myself into debt, by not buying stupid shit that has no value and by not having a kid.

Also...by not smoking Holy hell if 99% of the Stampers who came through my store didn't smoke they wouldn't need Food Stamps.

The Problem with that idea is that there is no reporting on a massive deathwave and the situation looks alot better from the outside than in countries with alot less infected. Italy was running out of space to store bodies at this point in its timeline and even the US with less infected looks alot worse from the outside.

We're not at the point in the timeline to expect to see bodies piling up yet. So Germans frigging the cause of death to fudge the figures is still most likely.
UK 5000 infected , 230 deaths
GER 3000 infected , 6 deaths
(figures from memory / pulled out my arse)
230 deaths spread over the UK is not piles of bodies yet. UK death rate is about 1400/day normally. And anecdotally, I've not heard any horror stories from local sources. Online doesn't count.
So, check again in two weeks , as they say in WuFlu threads.

I'm pretty sure that in cases of things spread via touch and fluids, we can simplify it with the answer that men generally tend to be filthy piggies. I would imagine that skid-marks in men's underwear is still a norm for most.

Hancock's doing a fucking good job, lay off.

Did you see this?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5483050/who-matt-hancock-health-secretary/

In February 2018, the minister launched an app - called Matt Hancock - on the iOS and Android platforms.

It is packed with cringeworthy posts advertising the MP's constituency activities and encouraging the public to connect with him.

Fans who join up are met with a video message from the minister.

They can then view a large gallery of pictures and videos of Mr Hancock, updates about his work, and an archive of his speeches.

People can also get in touch with each other, and users were quick to point out this feature of the app is almost identical to Facebook.

Within hours the app was swamped with jokers and fake profiles with names such as Donald Trump and Theresa May.

Users compared it to a scene from The Thick Of It, and even his parliamentary colleagues began taking the mick.

He launched an app called 'Matt Hanock' and then when people trolled it and him he instituted draconian censorship.

I don't think he's a bad person. I think he means well. He just seems a bit vacant. I think he'd be OK if he was managing a supermarket or something.

Also, I need a Conservative to joke about now that Theresa May has melted away, like a witch doused with water. Admittedly Hancock didn't say we were going to leave the customs union and single market and then plan to stay under the rules of both even if we technically left, but he just seems like an idiot so he'll do.

Criticizing the weakest people on your side will strengthen the herd by eliminating the weak.

The odd thing is that even though I disagree with literally everything every Labour leadership candidate has said or thought in their entire lives I don't really hate them. They're wrong politically but so hapless its hard to worry too much about them.

Do you have the link to the paper that they say shows a. Virus plus particles is viable and b. They can go a long way? When I click the links in the article I get to front pages and paywalls and I would like to read what they’ve found :)
I can imagine viruses piggybacking for very short periods of time to particles but I have a hard time believing they can travel a long way. All air pollution will correlate with deaths because all air pollution is very bad for your heart and lungs. The excess deaths caused by it are staggering.
Imagine grains of pollen, only hundreds of times smaller. Any acceleration downwards due to its weight is negligible compared to the brownian motion caused when high speed air molecules hit it from all directions. It'll stay in the air, floating like you would in treacle, until it finds a surface to stick to or it gets denatured by UV and chance collisions with oxygen or radicals that can snip bonds.
