Wuhan Coronavirus: Lockdowns, Quarantines, Cancellations

e.
It's because after german law, there's really no such thing as "Ausgangssperre" and all the things that have been so far done are not really things the government can do legally until there's an immediate danger, and the limitations regarding the vistation of public places etc. are legally poorly defined. (because something like this never happened and these laws didn't see a lot of trial) The government has to walk a tight rope between trying to protect the populace from a spread and doing what they legally can, as no, the rule of law hasn't been suspended and they still can get into trouble with the judiciary of the government as like every democratic western government, germany practices seperation of powers. I don't think anyone is happy about more limitations including the government, as these cost a lot of money directly and indirectly. You also have to consider the psychological effect. It's a bit damned if you do and damned if you don't - if you put big limitations in place you frighten the populace because they'll think the world is ending, which always causes some degree of destabilization. (just look at the crazy hoarders and the trouble they cause, most of them are just normal people that are really scared right now) If you see people behaving well and don't put limitations in place, they'll end up thinking this isn't as serious as it once seemed and they'll stop sticking to the rules to contain the spread, which will cause lots of people to die.

Even Christian Drosten and other experts are against a nationwide lock down. I can't imagine what people/families who live in flats in a big city must feel like during a lock down. That's not good for your mental health.

I just read that they're going to decide about it in one hour.

Neither "Ausgangssperre", nor "Ausgangsbeschränkung" are legal terms. I get why they're using the less scary-sounding latter term, but as I said, the general public uses the former as a catch-all for any kind of curfew or restriction of movement anyway. It was just an aside in my post, a little word game I had noticed that had struck me as funny simply because all the anchors and commentators sounded like they were reading from the same script.

Yeah, I agree. I doubt even the more totalitarian dickbag politicians are looking at this as a desirable development, simply because a population on lockdown, loose as the lockdown may comparably be, is a massively destabilizing factor regardless. No one really wants this.

She must be furiously masturbating as we speak at this idea.
Kinda hard when your hands are superglued together.

Even the tagesschau, german's state TV news (for those not knowing) uses the term ausgangsperre again. I think it's just your typical monkey journalists copy&pasting excessively.

In Bavaria where there's a curfew already it's still even allowed to go for walks, you just can't congegrate in groups and if you walk with others, they have to be from the same household. I don't find this unreasonable. How you'd enforce something like this effectively I don't know either though. I doubt police is going to bother people that walk alone or maybe in groups of two.

Not a lockdown, quarantine, or cancellation.

Also, Illinois just joined the lockdown club: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/i...ace-starting-saturday-sources-say/ar-BB11trTM
Shit's got real.
They're closing John Lewis
First time in like 150 years.
Speaking of New Joisey, American Dream AKA Meadowlands Xanadu is closed, after opening in October 2019, after decades of development, because of COVID-19.

Hope you like drive-through Best Buys.

Order online, pickup curbside. Other big-boxes will likely follow suit.
They did curbside for black friday/cyber monday at my BB. I ordered/paid for my item online then went to the store. Pulled up, showed them the printout and they loaded it in the back of the truck. I only got out of the drivers seat to double check the SKU and tie the item down. If they did that everyday I would shop there more often.

That helps stop shoplifters too. Thats the real reason. If you dont have a pay check and the courts and police are suspending operations then the only thing stopping people from stealing is their ability to walk and carry things.

Youd be surprised how fucked inventory is in a lot of stores after that initial wave of people preparing for the virus. Every register had huge lines and the employees were so swamped with demands people could just walk out with shit. And on the offchance the store called the cops, the police had every other store making calls. And stealing $4,000 worth of groceries isnt a big enough crime for the police to show up.

I guarantee you thats why gamestop is shifting to curbside pick up. Every store ive seen had two employees max at a time. If theyre dealing with one customer you could just walk out of the store.

In germany gatherings of more than two people (excluding households) are forbidden country-wide now. Excluded are core-family connections, life partners, vital work reasons, public transit and funerals. Restaurants are closed for good now. Seeing what happens in the countries around us, I'm not sure that's good enough. The fine for violating this rule is up to 25.000 euros.

EDIT: ...and we already have the first rebel, the state of bavaria has declared that it won't execute this rule of the government but will stick to it's own curfew rules.

All DMV locations in New York State have closed indefinitely. The grace period for renewing vehicle registration and licenses has been extended and more than 60 online transactions remain available.

So this is how the world dies...in quarantine. Here in Canada we are seeing an escalating lockdown as everyone is doing their part to snitch on people going outside and not socially distancing.

In addition McDonalds is now delivery and drive thru only

Somewhat old news at this point, but under the cancellations column:

Basically they're being extremely lenient to travelers who are suddenly afraid to fucking travel and who are even more afraid to spend a night in the guest bedroom of some internet asshole who probably doesn't ever wash the sheets. Airbnb's cancellation-with-refund policy is at the moment quite generous, and they've shut down some of their other stuff too since that post, if you check the newsroom section of their website.

Some of the people who run personal hoteling empires through Airbnb seem a little bit upset.

Dallas County, Texas just issued a shelter in place order.

Shit. There goes my $35k construction project in Dallas County. Just one more day of free movement and I would have been able to salvage it.

Once these orders go in place, you're very unlikely to get your freedoms back. Ever.
They're talking about keeping these Shelter in Place orders as just level 2 and unlikely to be lifted "for 6 months".
They'll never ever be fully lifted. I hope you like your pods.

You'd think Texas would be more concerned and ready to rise up, but I guess WuFlu really was the thing to get people spooked.

India will close the Mumbai local rail network from the general public starting today until March 31st. The trains will continue to run for government officials and those providing essential services.

The Dallas County is an island of "Democrat" blue in a sea of Republican red. If anywhere in Texas was to arbitrarily shut everything down with one day of advance notice, it would have either been Dallas or Austin.

I hope Dallas Police Department is ready to gear up for the nog riots.

Dude, you realize the rubber band's about to snap, right? I believe that's exactly what the government is intending, but this fiasco is dumping gallon after gallon of gasoline to fuel a libertarian movement that'll define the decade.

My uncle went to Wawa to get coffee and they were only letting two people in the store at a time. Even though the coffee is encased in dispensers you weren't allowed to get your own coffee. The whole coffee bar was blocked off and you had to tell the employees what you wanted. Same with donuts. You couldn't get them yourself.

Last week I went to Acme and all of the loose rolls were bagged. I wanted three whole wheat rolls and ended up with four because everything was bagged in fours. Really sucks if you only want one. All the loose donuts and pastries were individually wrapped. I didn’t check to see if you could get your own coffee. I wonder if stores will start bagging loose produce to reduce the risk.
