Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

How bad would this have to get in order to kill the Open Borders? Or is that a delusion leftists will die for?

They won't die for it, but they sure as shit will let you die for it. Of course, looking at crime rate statistics and other results of their failed policies, I think the left would let someone else die for a fucking klondike bar.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some 'See how foreigners are helping us with coronavirus! People who say open borders caused it are stupid dumb-dumbs' type stories fairly soon.
If this becomes a problem that living in a gated community can’t protect them from, they might change their tone. Looking at how the death rate is going in NYC, that’s entirely within the realm of possibility.

Anyone who pays all their tax ahead of schedule just got screwed but I doubt those people are struggling for money.

How so? Isn't it all the same amount in the end either way? Or do you just mean they don't get to enjoy a reprieve and get away with over-spending for a while?

This is going to sound like a mad doomer post, and I accept I’m some random anon on the internet.

But I know this affects a few of you, and I feel I need to pass it on. No, I don’t have a copy of sauce to show you, but I have this from a direct source who I trust 100%.

The instruction has gone out quietly from central govt to the NHS trusts/health boards that anyone who is on the list of the ‘shielded’ group is not to be ventilated if they present to hospital.

If you or anyone close to you is in the shielded group, take every fucking precaution you can at least until we seem to be on the downswing of the peak.

I cannot show you the source communications, and I know I sound like a lunatic. This absolutely will not be announced to the public. But those of you who might be affected by this need to know: you have already been triaged out of care.

for the love of God, stay home and stay away from others.

addendum - the shielding guidance and criteria are here. https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...ng-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19
Hospitals consider universal do-not-resuscitate orders for coronavirus patients
Worry that ‘all hands’ responses may expose doctors and nurses to infection prompts debate about prioritizing the survival of the many over the one

Hospitals on the front lines of the pandemic are engaged in a heated private debate over a calculation few have encountered in their lifetimes — how to weigh the “save at all costs” approach to resuscitating a dying patient against the real danger of exposing doctors and nurses to the contagion of coronavirus.

-
The conversations are driven by the realization that the risk to staff amid dwindling stores of protective equipment — such as masks, gowns and gloves — may be too great to justify the conventional response when a patient “codes,” and their heart or breathing stops.

-
Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago has been discussing a do-not-resuscitate policy for infected patients, regardless of the wishes of the patient or their family members — a wrenching decision to prioritize the lives of the many over the one.

- Richard Wunderink, one of Northwestern’s intensive-care medical directors, said hospital administrators would have to ask Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for help in clarifying state law and whether it permits the policy shift.

-
The University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, one of the country’s major hot spots for infections, is dealing with the problem by severely limiting the number of responders to a contagious patient in cardiac or respiratory arrest.

- The new protocols are part of a larger rationing of lifesaving procedures and equipment — including ventilators
— that is quickly becoming a reality here as in other parts of the world battling the virus.

- Wunderink said all of the most critically ill patients in the 12 days since they had their first coronavirus case have experienced steady declines rather than a sudden crash. That allowed medical staff to talk with families about the risk to workers and how having to put on protective gear delays a response and decreases the chance of saving someone’s life.

-
When a code blue alarm is activated, it signals that a patient has gone into cardiopulmonary arrest and typically all available personnel — usually somewhere around eight but sometimes as many as 30 people — rush into the room to begin live-saving procedures without which the person would almost certainly perish.

-
Bioethicist Scott Halpern at the University of Pennsylvania is the author of one widely circulated model guideline being considered by many hospitals. Halpern’s document calls for two physicians, the one directly taking care of a patient and one who is not, to sign off on do-not-resuscitate orders. They must document the reason for the decision, and the family must be informed but does not have to agree.
Spoiler'd because I'm not trying to fear monger or take up any more of this thread than I have to. Archive

Those are some strange numbers for admissions.

25-34 much higher than 35-44
45-54 over 55-64
And why is the 45-54 ICU number almost as high as the 65+ but the 55-64 lower than the 45-54?
I suspect that the age ranges are skewed a bit by the fact that the people getting hospitalised I’ve the last couple of weeks were the ones off skiing in Italy at half term. That’s what we are seeing here. Once there’s been a few cycles of transmission I would expect that to change

Is it me, or are his hands bigger than his head?

Do you feel optimistic about this drug combo? Just wondering. Holding out hope.

Cautiously. This isn’t a miracle cure, but it’ll probably work Ok for a lot. It’s a physical mechanism and slightly different to stuff like tamiflu, which breeds resistance fast

As far as Tylenol, Aleve, Bayer, Advil, Ibuprofen, etc. They all belong to the same group, called NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug), and do *mostly* the same things.
If you think it’s a virus, take paracetamol/acetaminophen not ibuprofen. Some viruses and ibuprofen don’t mix (like chickenpox.) there’s not need to get a fever of 38 down anyway unless you’re pregnant. Let your body use the fever to a point. If you’ve been feverish days then Ok, or if you’re suffering with it, but otherwise fever can be beneficial short term

It's worth mentioning that Ireland already had very high rates of lung disease, We're above the EU average for COPD, way above any other European country for cystic fibrosis, and near the top of the list for asthma.
Yup. Irish genetics are interesting (no teeth jokes I promise) they have a really high rate of the alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency (1:25 or something) which predisposes to COPD . Asthma rates through the roof too.

My god. I mean what do I even say. The man needs defenestrating and in any other country in the world that might happen. He’s taking a HUGE gamble with that strategy. Lagom’s gonna get you all killed.

So the NHS has spent millions rapidly manufacturing gloves, masks, ventilators, hand sanitzers, turfing over wards into ICU's across the whole nation.

The UK Government has basically tanked the fucking economy handing out a money printer to everyone from employees to self employed. (With some speculation that the unemployed rate, after being at incredible historic lows) now likely to have risen by 5%.

All to try and protect the very people on that list.

Only to suddenly go "lol, nah, let them keel over with it if they got it. Fuck 'em."

I'm pressing X to doubt so fucking hard my whole netbook might break.

I think there's two lists. Fareal's post refers to the super secret double serious list. The you-are-totally-fucked list, not just the general fat old man list that we're tanking the economy to protect.

On the 19th during the City of Lake Worth Beach Commission had a heated moment.
Video of the full meeting
Lake Worth Beach Gov. Website related to the meeting.

The official started yelling at the other memebers because some company was turning off utilities for some people in the Florida city.
(archive)

Every request he had was also shot down every time. So he was already mad before the meeting was held.

I'm not sure who all the officals are, but it sure seems like there's tons of miscommunication going on in Florida.

"What you've done is that you've failed the people of this city!"

"I haven't done anything!"

Exactly, you fat bitch.

I wish that more people in government cared as much as this guy does.

Also, does this not destroy the narrative that "women would do a much better job than men if they were in charge"? Looks like women are just as capable of being abhorrent and corrupt pieces of shit, too.

I can't speak for that person's circumstance, but I know I do my independent contractor taxes by keeping a giant pile of money and do it in one big shot at tax season rather than quarterly, but my current plan to tread water (assuming nothing else practical happens) is to use some of that pile for survival and set up a long-term payment thing with the IRS.
I exactly don't pay quarterly for this reason. I don't want to lean on that but it's been there as an emergency slush fund.

To all the angry idiots and exceptional individuals giving this autistic and mad rates you're just coping for the fact you have no argument against the cleansing that corona-chan will bring to the overpopulated, filth filled, corrupt shitholes in non-white countries.
It's very sad this disease hit Europe and it's lucky it missed USA with Trump's excellent work, but I really think we need to focus on punishing China for spreading this and other shithole countries for bring it globally. They need to be taught a lesson for their crimes and you simply can't accept reality if you're trying to reject such a simple notion.
This is costing our economy lots, and somebody needs to pay.
Watch as everything accelerates and we have no other choices left, don't be a cuck.
What we should do is give our glorious military a nice dusting of Coronachan, so they can build immunity, then rain them down on Beijing, coofing all the way to the ground. This plan is sure to not backfire.

I'm thinking of my own field actually- we're straining a little under the load already and we're the slow-mo section. The body disposal there is already fucked; even a little extra and they'll be keeping them piled in the street.

Those old engravings and paintings of the Black Death, you see the open mass graves. Here, we will cremate. No funeral, no burial for a while I'm sure, once this is done kicking in.

In India though? Those are going to be as good as modern photographs.

Apparently there are enough crematoria? Or do you foresee the construction of mass graves?

How so? Isn't it all the same amount in the end either way? Or do you just mean they don't get to enjoy a reprieve and get away with over-spending for a while?
It's the same amount but a different cash flow. But anyone who pays it all at the start of the year probably doesn't have cash flow problems anyway.

UK reports 2,129 new cases of coronavirus and 113 new deaths, raising total to 11,658 cases and 578 dead
Guido said this was expected due to changing the reporting time which is also why yesterday was so low. So it's not 40 yesterday and 110 today but closer to 75 on both days.

Why are we supposed to "trust the experts" again, exactly? Wasn't this the same guy who was refusing to release the source code for his projection model when people started to question it? I remember reading that somewhere but for the life of me I can't remember where that was, now.

That fucker is lucky he did this at the start of the decade instead of the end of it, bongistan in 2029 would have him be executed on live television in the name of allah for that fuck up.

Have the French people figured out that the most likely reason for the ban is Macron sold the entire French supply of the drug to China weeks ago?

look it was either him or the nazi. and in a hilarious summary of the last 80 years, France knew the two options and what they stood for, and now have to face the consequences of their actions for clearly choosing poorly

Something like 400+ new cases in PA. Ramp-up in full effect now. And Trump thinks it will be over by Easter.
Or maybe the guy with (((grandchildren))) that Null is envious of, thinks he can finally destroy religion in this country in one go, by May everyone gets infected.
