Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

And the amount of reasons to stab Merkel through the heart with a bowie knife then cut her head off increases by the second.
Do you have any theory on why Italy hasn't started to get better? Are the deaths now people who got infected 2 weeks ago or people who've been sick for a month? Do you think Spain is in a different situation or similar to Italy?

Also have you seen the mild side of the illness in your co-workers (since mildly sick people wouldn't go in as patients)?

Most are mild. Outside of the elderly or already weakened. That's not to say there aren't ANY healthy ICU cases but that's the extreme minority. So far on Puerta del Mar we haven't had a single case of a sick doctor going severe but I know of cases on other provinces, we even got a few deaths there. Mostly due to doctors being stubborn lemons that refuse to go to the hospital before it's really late 'cause "nah dude I know what I'm doing this feels bad but I can totally self medicate" NO YOU FUCKING CAN'T. Seriously. Wanna know the biggest cause of death amongst doctors? Thinking they're more intelligent than they really are. That's why I exploded in all caps @Otterly when I thought she was doing the same. Of course that's unofficial info because the news would rather paint them as martyrs but... yeah.

As for why Italy ain't getting any better. They actually are... a bit. Number of infections has started diminishing so it seems they passed the peak. The most affected areas of spain (madrid and catalonia) seem to be there too. So they'll slowly go down. Thing is, SLOWLY. Infections follow the bell curve but recoveries take longer, so that bell curve's gonna be a pain to get down from the peak. Usually a substantial number of the population is vaccinated so it doesn't affect as many people and herd immunity keeps it contained but without that it was a matter of time before most people were infected. Of course areas that managed to slow contagion enough do better (looking at you eastern europe, korea and japan) but really even for them it's a matter of time before a significant number of the population has been infected, the key is either doing it in a manageable fashion or managing to hold out until a reliable treatment can be expedited. We sucked at that.

In spain it seems it really is being a boomer doomer for the most part. But our population is significantly healthier than USA's, thanks to cheaper mediterranean diet and less drug abuse. So if heart conditions really are a factor, the USA should get ready for issues for real.

Remember than our numbers are possibly exagerated by our policy, and Germany/france/Italy's are definitely underreported by theirs, though not as much as China's. So the US can expect a higher number of deaths per capita than us if they don't manage to slow it down enough. And we are using Trump's magic drug, so I can tell you, it works better than most, it is certainly worth it, but... It's no magic and won't save everyone.

Italy is still backlogged with cases in hospitals pre heavy lockdown so we wont see true results for a week more most likely or the virus is so ingrained at this point you just got to let it do its course.

To the previous poster yeah I know its not just a boomer killer and as of late Corona chan has been smiting down Gen Xers. A possible mutation perhaps is underway. I would find it interesting because it would spice it up. It would raise disdain for the government then we wont get simpletons outside clapping for the NHS like sheeple, niggas stole it from Spain and Italy anyway.

These lock downs though I bet must be the authorial states wet dream, imagine controlling your populace so easily yet destroying everything around you. As I said theres more on the table, countries not heavily hit will shamble up the power ladder and countries like Korea, India and Russia even Japan will start tallying up. The EU is fucked at this point, it dies with Merkel as the other leaders resist them.

Everyone is so focused on a very very slim minority dying and being nice but not going down to brass tax. We live in an incredibly over populated planet and if something wants to correct it, it'll correct it. Its mother natures way, I know this sounds insane but it feels leaders are trying to prevent it so bad for their own self interest.

"How did you get tested before NHS staff?! Tory Scum!"

The US has had an increase of 18.1k cases in one day. That's the highest reported number to date and it hasn't even yet stopped accelerating.

And going by the US numbers, I really wonder what is going on in China, can't imagine that this shit has slowed down there for a second, yet they are sitting on roughly 82k cases for a month now. Will be interesting to see if we'll ever hear about entire neighborhoods suddenly devoid of human life in the aftermath of this shitshow.
I just hope that someone will come up with a decent indicator to get a rough estimate of how big the actual impact was for the population...
Something like the phone contract statistics, that shows 15 million less users within the timespan of 2 months.

You ask that question as if there were(or could be) some enforceable Federal standard.
It really depends on the doctor deciding in the moment if they should try more or again.
Gonna go on a sperg here.

Here in Canuckistan, we have a Good Samaritan's Act, which provides protection to anyone who, in good faith and a genuine desire to help. You can't be held criminally liable for stopping and giving someone CPR, for example, if you break their ribs during CPR.

For CPR training at levels below EMT/Paramedic, we train people that you cannot stop CPR for any reason other than to aspirate, or to swap out with a partner, or for an Defib scan/shock. The reason for this is that our medical system doesn't count you dead until a doctor calls TOD. I don't know if EMT/Paramedics/hospital staff are trained the same way.

Technically, with proper technique CPR, with aspirations, you are creating systolic/diastolic pressure, aspirating the blood through the lungs, and are delivering oxygen to critical organs, thus anyone who CPR is being performed on is still "alive." Same concept as a braindead person who is intubated and vented. They are still "alive" with medical assistance to keep the heart pumping (note that I did not say beating) and oxygen flowing through that blood.

I don't know how this applies anywhere else. It could also only apply in my province. The issue I am seeing with this disease is that we are running entire hospitals based on that covid is only spread by droplets. If it turns out to be an aerosol spread virus, than would we need to treat patients under BSL3 rules?

I hope the CCP get fucked by this. Did the entire world just entire Cold War 2 : Chinese Boogaloo?

Kazakh update: Beginning of exponential growth
We got our first death!
Total cases up to 126.
Recoveries up to 4.

Nicked from Guido, and a comment I saw made me laugh so I am stealing it too.

"Britain gives the NHS the clap."

Listen, Derbyshire wasted shitloads of money on their fucking stupid toy spent a lot of money for the drone unit to do its vital work. They're doing god's work by being dicks nobody's supporting on Twitter by people pointing out that going to more isolated places to walk is sensible.

The responses somewhat restore my faith in the British public.

I also like that Derbyshire police were initially responding to every reply, but promptly shut up at the tweet that said "You found these people up in the hills, but you couldn't find those grooming gangs for years could you?".

Small update from the land of beer and brats, employee owned grocery chain has installed plexiglass at it's registers

Aw Woodman’s, that takes me back...

The co-op near me also installed plexiglass at the registers since the last time I was there about a week ago and is asking people to pay with cards and not cash whenever possible.

It’s insane how many high-profile and influential people have caught the virus. Just goes to show you that diseases and pandemics don’t discriminate.

Wealthy and high profile people travel a lot and have business and political connections, the first carriers out of China would have been those on business trips or with the means to go on international holidays. Then they have meetings where they shake hands with other well-connected people. Even without thinking about the fact that they have better access to healthcare/testing, it makes sense that it'd spread through those circles like wildfire.

It's not really surprising that their numbers have slowed way down when their measures have been as extreme as they have. Of course their overall numbers are still way off, and with that we can also question if they really peaked and started to drop off that early, or if that is manipulated.
