BAD GEOLOGY JOKE FOR THE DAY ⛰⛏
Q: Why wasn't the geologist hungry?
A: He lost his apatite.

Edit: Just had an emergency alert system notice about Corona-chan. Leafs are slow but we eventually get there. 🍁

Remember guys, this is what some (((people))) here are advocating for. We need harsher lockdowns.

Not positives. DEATHS. We don't use comorbidities as excuaes, you do. We test the dead. You don't. We mark those dead during known outbreak as corona casualties before testing them. You don't mark them as corona at all unless already tested and no comorbidities found.

I'd say your actual corona deaths are well well over 10 times what's reported. Ours might actually be a little less than what was reported. Big difference.

We still have that saying.

Oh, I was confused about that. Sorry. And yeah, we don't test the dead. And I have pointed out before in another post that every single Corona death we had, was reported to have had comorbidities or pre-existing conditions. I have not heard of a single death of Corona without pre-existing conditions.

What is the percentage of your dead that were tested only after they died? It'd be interesting to see how much this could skewer the death rate. I'm pretty sure our death toll would probably be higher if we took the time and the resources to test the dead, but the RKI stated pretty clearly that they will not waste a single test on a dead person.

We've been wondering lately why the initial flood of video/media content from China seemingly dried up for a while.

This thread on twitter (archive) has a new batch of videos. They appear to show some incidents of civil unrest and border tensions between Hubei and Jiangxi provinces. Hubei has reportedly lifted its quarantine, but other provinces are pressing X hard.
I'll try to upload them here, :optimistic: hoping they'll show up while the site is under heavy load and media has limited functionality. I have local copies regardless, and the videos aren't large.

Edit: Somewhat ninja'd by @Autistic lurker

Update 12:00pm CST - A different clip was posted, showing some angles and scenes not included in the above snippets. Note the sheer size of the crowd on that bridge at the beginning.

Paying my ⏰ penance by adding a video from a Southeastern Michigan ICU nurse (archive) describing conditions at her hospital and telling people to "stay the fuck home." Really hoping she and other HCWs can hang in there, because we all know what happens if they can't.

How autonomous are the Chinese provincial police? Were the classes between Hubei and Jiangxi police a matter of miscommunication or we could potentially see more of this if Hubei keeps being shunned for being the plague land?

60,000 died. Based on ICU numbers and hospitalization rate, the total number of hospitalizations was likely over 250,000 for the US alone. This is based on 49% of hospitalizations requiring ICU care for H1N1 and the number of pneumonia infections that were not initially linked to H1N1.

Official hospitalization rate of H1N1 was 0.49%. The disease is confirmed to have infected 57 million americans. So that is 279300 hospitalizations before adding in pneumonia hospitalizations that would have resulted from undetected H1N1 infections.
So basically no quarantine h1n1 basically hospitalized and killed people just as much as this virus will come June. like i said its only been sending people to the hospital for one month and we're at 20k, and we're adding thousands more every day. If we didn't shut a goddamn thing down, we probably would already be at 250k US by now

Seems it's Gove who's stepping into the PM's role for the time being. Constitutionally it's supposed to be Dominic Raab, the Foreign Secretary. Probably because he's the one with the most contact with other world leaders after the Prime Minister.

Gove is probably slightly better known to the general public though, especially after backstabbing Johnson in the lead up to May's premiership.

News from India:

Coronavirus infected 25-year-old mingled with ONE THOUSAND guests at wedding in Dombivli

That sent shivers down my spine...
It's almost like the Indians know they can't beat the US in numbers based on their lack of Corona-tests, so they go for the Super-Spreader Achievement instead.

The youngest UK death was apparently fake news.

tl;dr she had a heart attack "at the weekend" and the hospital couldn't resuscitate her. Her family have deleted posts saying she had no health conditions. Sounds like drugs and the family hoped to cover it up.

Even though this is apparently not being done yet, this speaks a lot to how bad things have gotten in SE Michigan. And I was wondering how the hell it got this bad... Then the statistics started to show why. Wayne county is disproportionately represented, which isn't too surprising given population density, but Detroit proper is most of the cases, despite having a smaller population.

All I can think of is just as the closures started, the, ah, Detroit resident we had up our way at a gas station outside a market, coughing up a storm (30' downwind of me, thankfully) , asking the attendant between coughs when this store gon' be open.

I'm beginning to understand why I always heard Michiganders refer to Detroit metro as "The Dirty D."

Alabama has reached what I consider to be "keep my ass at home" territory; 571 confirmed cases to date and 2 new deaths reported this morning. So far, deaths are all in the very northernmost counties. I expect we'll start seeing deaths soon in all the areas with rapidly growing case numbers.

The Governor's office has amended its Statewide State Health Officer's Order. In a nutshell, a lot of shit is being closed and shut down effective March 28th at 5:00pm.

ETA: another video of conflict between Hubei and Jiangxi police. (archive)
Google Translation:
"[Jiangxi and Hubei Public Security Fight] On the morning of March 27, Jiujiang Public Security in Jiangxi and Xiaojiang Town, Hubei, had serious conflicts. According to local residents, the two sides had a dispute over whether Hubei people could return to work. Later, Jiujiang sent a group of special police to subdue several Hubei Police, the two sides were still facing each other until noon."

Good news for anyone from Ontario. If you've came back from travelling, you're required to be isolated in your own home for 14 days by law. Just got a notification about it from my phone.
Yeah that just put into place I think last night. They ain't fucking around with this, I guess that Criminal Code is coming into use.

Punishment

(2) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1) is liable
  • (a) on conviction on indictment, to a fine of not more than $1,000,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than three years, or to both; and
  • (b) on summary conviction, to a fine of not more than $300,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both.

I guess I have to thank my mum for my somewhat preparedness. When I was taking care of her during her dialysis days, I made some habits pertaining to hygiene. I always have some stock of alcohol, iodine, peroxide, box of medical certified masks, box of china'd masks, box of surgical gloves, box of powdered gloves, box of sanitized gloves.

Also always have some canned tuna, pork, sisig and lechon and squid lying around, along with some quick cook noodles.

I guess the only thing I'm not prepared for is the lack of distraction, I am seriously have ran out of gunpla model kits to build

This may sound dumb but...how do people get from ship to ship in a fleet?

If nobody likes you? A bosun's chair and a cable between two ships like what @Malodorous Merkin posted. If everybody hates you? The two ships have 'navigation issues' and you become the meat paste in a ship sandwich.

that's a shame but yeah that's why it's "most commonly affecting old smokers in shitholes" rather than "god him fucking self has ordained it will only affect old smokers in shitholes"
besides she's a frog so of course she'd surrender

I suppose there is no real downside for Trump to push an easter revival for now.

Realistically, States are still going to implement shelter in place and work from home policies at which point he can absolve himself of blame for the economic downturn and point the finger at governors, etc.

Close friends of mine and family members are spouting CCP propaganda. They're talking openly about this being an escaped bioweapon from Fort Dietrich, that we planted it to destroy the Chinese economy, that it really started with US vapers, that we have done nothing to prevent this from killing Americans and Trump is only concerned with the economy. And Racism, calling this a Chinese virus is just violence against people that don't look like me.

I listen to what they say and it's like I'm on another planet. When did it become cool to allow another country to murder Americans or poison the minds of the youth?
Unironically tell them about the uyghur camps and call them bigots for sympathizing with yellow nazis. Or let them have a taste of Corona-chan's ventilator and see if they'll open their shitty big mouths again.

next for stupid shit to panic morons
BE SCARED OF CONTACTS BECAUSE CORONA
written by somebody who either doesn't wear contacts or constantly has eye infections because he's too fucking stupid to not learn by the first week of wearing contacts that you don't touch your damn eyes when you have contacts

Another very German story, this time on the ground.
An officer of the Regulatory Office (Ordnungsamt), accompanied by a young apprentice, visited the table tennis site adjacent to a playground. The playground had been cordoned off by red and white tape for days, but not the table tennis table. Which I thought had been a nice move.

Playing sports in pairs is explicitly allowed in Germany these days, if you stay in pairs or are members of one household.
He spontaneously imagined a somehow undefined space upon which he must have felt the urgency to act immediately. The playground is the playground, and even if table tennis is not cordoned off, it is part of it, this can't stay that way, "Ordnung muss sein." He had to do something.

He made a few phonecalls and then proceeded to tell a lenghty story how he liked to watch the game himself but saw a possibility of imitations by others and bla bla and bla. He shut the game down.

And then they wonder why everybody is joking and angry and fearful and subdued at the same time towards the "Corona-police". With what limited freedom of movement we have left, their overprotectiveness is getting on my nerves.
I fear for the day when everybody like in China will be ordered to wear a mask if they want to go outside. Suddenly new rules apply and you don't know which new rights they invent to restrict yours.

We are already very compliant here. Nobody wants to get the virus and nobody wants to be lectured by all these new security guys. Police and some people are having a field day policing for themselves the fuck out of everybody else. These are the most German traits: Policing others, if I can't have joy, nobody else should.
