Okay so you are saying that things other than the physical aspects create attractiveness? Sure, I get that sad people radiate their sadness... Yet there are still classically "good" features and classically "bad" ones. You can have a good looking emo, an ugly comedian even if he is happy...
You can see people in depression support groups and they don't look particularly disgusting to me, they often look normal despite their crippling sadness.
Do you happen to know what 'priming' is?
Psychologically speaking, if you prime yourself by constantly telling yourself that attractiveness is the highest virtue, then tell yourself you're not attractive, then you're not going to act like you normally do in situations. It's not a matter of sadness, though people with MDD or dysthymia do have a harder time dating, it's about the reasoning BEHIND the sads.
