Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

London is a powder keg waiting for someone to light the tinder. It was like that before this virus shit. Things just got a whole lot drier.

I used to live in Brixton. A black area of south london. It wasn't unusual to come home from work and not be able to catch the bus because of the odd mini-riot that you never heard about on the news.

There was serious social discontent a few years ago and all it takes is somone to light the touch paper. Riots and whatnot also follow an exponential trajectory once instigated/initialized. Pretty soon they are all at it. Just like herd animals. Blood in the water. Sensing fear...

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day sun, so the saying goes. Hot weather doesn't help. I've experienced it myself. In fact, in Brixton some guy hit me with his car when I was carrying shopping home, so I proceeded to boot the fuck out of his car doors. Black fella. Probably not the most wise thing I've done. But that is the summer heat for you. He just drove off thinking man these crackers be crazy.

It's not just the blacks of course. Whitey has his share of scum as well. Both are a problem if things rise up.

There's a couple of things going on here. One, there are opportunities to be had by gaming the system however it can be gamed (think a little bit like buying up alll the TP but more devious again). Two, there is real danger of the animals sensing a breakdown in the rule of law and taking advantage accordingly. Lots of disaffected youts in London. They are feral. God help us if they ever get the upper hand or even sense that they might have it.

These things don't really bare thinking about at the moment. Hopefully it won't be a hot summer. Hopefully this virus will play itself out before hand and the quarantine shit can be pulled back before the real wild animals of the herd start to get cabin fever. Or sense weakness.

Already the police are stupidly saying they will not be arresting people short of murders being done. They are too busy out shaming people going for a walk. They are even policing shops that are selling fucking Easter Eggs because, well, Easter Eggs, you got a loisence for that (they aren't essential you see). So you can be robbed and they won't attend at the best of times, and now they have the perfect excuse while they are out policing what corner shops sell. Just when you think your opinion of the police can't get any lower.

The last time we had serious riots here in that long hot summer the police kind of stood down as well. There was some dispute with wages beforehand and they took a more laissez-faire attitude than they needed to. They had to pull it back in the end, but not before things got out of hand. The police are a political institution as much as anything else. And they are also one of the biggest baddest gangs on the block. When they want to be.

It's not diving off too far in to la la land to think that something could happen to tip the balance or cause that spark to be lit at some point with all of this. And once the feral scum sense fear, or just sense that they have the upper hand in some way (numbers), then it will be a free for all the likes we have not seen in our lifetime.

I pity anyone caught up in that situation should it arise.

London will be bad. Watching historic riots on youtube from the Thatcher era and onto more modern times (2011 riots) I would say it's going to get crazy. London's gotten a lot more socially unequal even in the last 9 years, lots of street people, poverty and people who can't make ends meet. Not every person will have there income subsidized, I doubt Boris gives a flying bats ass what happens to these people's well being. People are going to be hostile as hell.

So, you've been sectioning the lungs and the liver. What about sectioning the heart to look for histopathological changes associated with myocarditis? What about the kidneys? What about the testicles? What about the parasympathetic nerves of the lungs, the vagus nerve, and the cardiorespiratory center of the medulla? What about the olfactory bulb?

This virus is suspected to be neurotropic. It can climb the nerves of the lungs, right into the vagus nerve, and right into the medulla. Critical patients have dysautonomia and loss of automatic breathing, and possibly even arrhythmia associated with vagus nerve dysfunction.

All the way back in February, I was concerned that autopsies would fail to reveal the anatomy of the disease if people kept assuming it was "just pneumonia" and removed and sectioned only the lungs from cadavers. Now, it is becoming apparent that I had valid reason to be worried.

Gathering the tissues is, in itself, dangerous, dirty, difficult work. You have my sympathies.

Go back to your own thread. Stop spreading shit. All you do is come on here and spread fear. Half of those videos you shared were fake, stated you knew they were fake, but posted anyways to scare people. Until more research comes out, your posts are irrelevant.

state numbers were being under reported, and now are a bit delayed. systems are catching up; stay-at-home is slowing things just enough. our peak will likely be this coming week as the last of the exposed people from before that order, get sick.

People actually listen to those orders where you're from? Of course here there is no state lockdown, and the ones by county or city are very lax. Our shelter in place laws have many exceptions, so they're pretty toothless.

Counties with no reported COVID cases are free to do as they always have for the most part. The tiger park of Netflix infamy was open and packed this past weekend, and most visitors are from out of town as the locals do not like them. There are quite a few restaurant lobbies open as well and people are still going. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in a couple weeks.

"We brought in 13 machines that basically kill every virus in the place," Howard-Browne said. "If they sneeze it shoots it down like at 100 miles per hour and it will neutralize it in a split second.""

Oh my god what the fuck is he talking about this is the dumbest shit and I love it if it wasnt endangering more people. I get his argument about churches providing essential support, but jeez dude cramming everyone together for an airborne virus is a recipe for disaster, just do it online you cuck.

Oh, sweet, he can do it from jail. *badumtish*

This guy really is special, isn't he? This shit is as contagious as hell.

Obviously we are not all going to die. This case study seems to be on par with what is reported internationally though.

The "choir practice incident" has been in the news. Basically a Presbyterian Church in Washington state was like "we alright" and 60 bored Boomers, Gen X-ers and Silent Generations met up and sang their hearts out.

45 became symptomatic, 2 oldies died and 15 walked away without symptoms. The boomers survived though.

Churches are smart to stay down. Maybe you guys live more dangerously than I do, but I have never sang in a choir in which nobody shows up for practice the next week because they are either sick or deceased.

Like I said, some people prefer to live on the edge.

LOL 3rd press conference in a row a "journalist" has asked Trump to personally guarantee that everyone who needs a ventilator will get one. :story:

Edit: he basically said "he thinks they will" so now there will be clickbait headlines; "Trump says everyone who needs a ventilator will have one. Here's why he's wrong." :smug:

They will also trot this soundbyte out a million times and list the number who died after this point during the election and say it's all Drumpf's fault.

That is false. You misinterpreted what I said. What I said was there are some fake videos circulating. At no point did I say that the ones I shared were fake.

Do you know what this is?

Here, let me give you a hint:

Evidence of the COVID-19 Virus Targeting the CNS: Tissue Distribution, Host–Virus Interaction, and Proposed Neurotropic Mechanisms (2020-03-13) [https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acschemneuro.0c00122]

3.1. Evidence of the Distribution of ACE2 in the Human Brain
The brain has been reported to express ACE2 receptors (Figure 1A, C) that have been detected over glial cells and neurons, which makes them a potential target of COVID-19. Previous studies have shown the ability of SARS-CoV to cause neuronal death in mice by invading the brain via the nose close to the olfactory epithelium.(3) The contribution of the neurotropic potential of SARS-CoV-2 in patients reported in the recent outbreak of COVID-19 remains to be established. In the SARS-CoV infections that were reported in the past, autopsy findings of the patients have shown strong evidence of the presence of SARS-CoV by electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and real-time reverse transcription-PCR (3). Patients with acute SARS-CoV illness have also demonstrated the presence of the virus in cerebrospinal fluid. The role of the blood-brain barrier in containing the virus and preventing it from gaining access to the neural tissues needs to be further explored in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. Recently, a study posted in medRxiv(4) has reported neurological manifestations in COVID-19 in the current outbreak that involved 214 patients, of which 78 (36.4%) patients had neurologic manifestations, which affirms our rationale of the neurotropic potential in the COVID-19 virus. Also, a finding published on a patient who had loss of involuntary control over breathing(5) during the recent outbreak with several other patients suffering acute respiratory failure implores healthcare professionals and clinicians to segregate COVID-19 patients into neurologically affected cases and those who are devoid of neurological deficits.

Because COVID-19 has symptoms similar to the flu, “much of the attention could get diverted towards the pulmonary aspect of SARS-CoV-2, while neural involvement may remain covert,” Mannan says. When a patient begins to exhibit severe neurological symptoms, such as a loss of involuntary breathing, it may be “too late to prevent fatalities.”

In a review article first published February 27, Yan-Chao Li of Jilin University in China and colleagues argue that if SARS-CoV-2 infects nerve cells, particularly neurons in the medulla oblongata, which is part of the brain stem that serves as the control center for the heart and the lungs, the damage could contribute to “acute respiratory failure of patients with COVID-19.”

The epidemiological evidence supports the hypothesis that neurons in the medulla can become infected with SARS-CoV-2 and contribute to a patient’s breathing problems and potential death. Li and colleagues explain that the time it takes for COVID-19 to progress from first symptoms to difficulty breathing is typically five days; patients are then admitted to the hospital roughly two days later, and a day after that put into intensive care. “The latency period is enough for the virus to enter and destroy the medullary neurons,” they write.

It's not a secret that this thing is neurotropic.

It's right out in the open, if you care to do two fucking seconds of Googling.

Isn't it possible to have a seizure disorder, AND catch COVID?

Like you can have a sprained ankle AND bronchitis?

I will look at your sources, but at the end of the day, this is a respiratory virus.

MEDICAL FETISH SITE DONATES ENTIRE STOCK OF SCRUBS AFTER BEING CONTACTED BY 'DESPERATE' HEALTH OFFICIALS
AM EDT A medical fetish company in the U.K. has donated its entire stock of disposable scrubs to a hospital after being contacted by "desperate" health officials.MedFetUK said it had been contacted by National Health Service (NHS) representatives from across the country who were trying to procure basic protective equipment and clothing for health workers tackling the coronavirus pandemic. The company didn't identify the hospital where it sent the "few sets" of scrubs that it had, but said it was located in the south of England.MedFetUK added it was "scandalous" that it was "being sought out as last-resort supplier" for the NHS during a crisis, adding that claims from politicians that health workers were getting what they needed to were not true
Writing about the donation on Twitter on Friday, MedFetUK said: "Today we donated our entire stock of disposable scrubs to an NHS hospital. It was just a few sets, because we don't carry large stocks, but they were desperate, so we sent them free of charge."

In follow-up tweets, the company added:

"When you see someone from the government saying the NHS is getting what it needs, that is a LIE. We have been contacted this week by representatives of NHS procurement all over the country, trying to source basic protective equipment and clothing.

"When we, a tiny company set up to serve a small section of the kink community, find ourselves being sought out as a last-resort supplier to our National Health Service in a time of crisis, something is seriously wrong. In fact, it's scandalous."

MedFetUK said a decade of underfunding and cuts to the NHS has left it "barely able to cope under normal circumstances, much less when faced with the onslaught of a global pandemic."

It added: "So when it's all over...and the doctors, nurses and other staff have done an amazing job (as they undoubtedly will despite the circumstances)...let's not forget, or forgive, the ones who sent the NHS into this battle with inadequate armor and one hand tied behind its back."

Last week, the British Medical Association (BMA) said it had been inundated with concerns about the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) for doctors and nurses tackling the coronavirus pandemic. The BMA said many of its members were being forced to work without "inadequate" protection.

Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick acknowledged the concerns around the provision of PPE during a press conference on Sunday. He said 170 million masks, 42.8 million gloves, 13.7 million aprons, 182,000 gowns, almost 10 million items of cleaning equipment and 2.3 million pairs of eye protectors were being delivered to frontline staff

"We simply cannot and should not ask people to be on the frontline without the right protective equipment," he said. "We have a clear plan to ensure that those serving this country at this time have the right equipment."

Fetishists coming in clutch.

at the end of the day, this is a respiratory virus.

Not. Even. Close.

Yes, it causes pneumonia, ARDS, and lung fibrosis.

You know what else it causes?

Myocarditis and pericarditis:

Abnormal liver levels:

Acute kidney injury:

Cytokine storm:

Bacterial co-infection:

And neurological issues:

The idea that COVID-19 is "just a respiratory virus" is a deadly misconception.

Do not underestimate the pathological complexity of betacoronaviruses.
