Science The FDA would rather let people die from coronavirus than take blood from gay men

By Graham Gremore

The FDA just cleared the way for hospitals to begin using blood plasma to treat patients with coronavirus. Patients who have recovered from COVID-19 and who now carry the antibody for the virus are being encouraged to donate blood to help others.

There’s just one caveat.

Sexually active gay and bisexual men need not bother donating.

The FDA says it’s upholding its 12-month restriction on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, despite a nationwide blood shortage and a letter signed by 17 Democratic senators urging the agency to revisit its discriminatory deferral policy.

“As such, it is imperative that we move away from discriminatory donor deferral policies that prohibit many healthy individuals from contributing much-needed blood and blood products,” the letter states.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis called for the “antiquated ban” to be “immediately lifted.”

“The FDA cannot let an outdated and discriminatory ban on blood donations from gay and bi men get in the way of potentially life-saving treatment for the country’s painful current health crisis,” she says.

“Gay and bi men who have recovered from COVID-19 and want to donate plasma, or who want to help contribute to a nationwide shortage of blood, are banned from doing so as a result of the FDA. Continuing to enforce this antiquated policy is dangerous, irresponsible, and flies in the face of recommendations from medical experts.”

A spokesperson for the FDA says the agency “is aware there has been a significant reduction in blood and plasma donations around the country” and that its “working with the blood banking and source plasma industries” to find a solution.

It’s still not lifting the restriction though. Meanwhile, the U.S. coronavirus death toll just surpassed 4,000 today.

Show me some stats proving Grindr is a ghost town right now and I’ll entertain the idea, but lbr, it isn’t, and the gays are using this break to fuck even more strangers than usual. So no thank you, we don’t need anything from you.
This, my friend.

I figure we could do an easy experiment by looking at those faget "dating" apps during the no contact order. If fagets are being responsible instead of depraved animals they normally are, maybe we can consider some changes.

Oh, well, guess not then. (google searches give you more of this)

The ones who are not "hooking up" are just going to go nuts when this is all over. They will suck 20 peepees the minute the no contact order is lifted.

(I'm guessing there's been at least one, "Take the blood, bigot' comment). You're not even paid for donation of blood in the USA anymore, are you?

If they still do batch analysis for things like HIV, it is rather expensive to not catch someone in screening. And, let's be honest, next year's airborne anal ebola, when it arises, will arise in the gay community.

I've actually made it a priority to deny blood transfusions, even if I'm dying if it happens in a place that doesn't test blood . I'd rather die with dignity and grace than live only to lean a bug pozed me without even knowing me because we took away the basic Tennants of health and safety just so orginzations can virtue signal about how "inclusive" they are.

How many people infected with coronavirus even need a blood transfusion? How does the disease cause significant blood loss?

The hope is that a recovered covid patient will have antibodies in their blood serum that could confer an antiviral effect to anybody infected with SARS-2-CoV.
The issue with recovered gay covid patients donating their blood for this purpose is the significant risk of HIV and/or other blood borne or bodily fluid borne diseases like hepatitis also being present within the blood. Therefore the increased incidence of sexual disease in the gay population caused by a promiscuous and unhygienic lifestyle rightly precludes them from donating blood in the first place.

There are still places that pay for plasma/blood/etc. but I would say that the vast majority of blood donations are not paid. Selling plasma is generally a shit way to make money anyway.

It’s not even just gay men. Promiscuous straight people are also banned. Is a double digit IQ a requirement to be a journalist these days?

Edit: Trying to fix newfaggotry.

Even if it's a good idea to change the policy and let them donate...now is just so very obviously not the moment.

It will never be a good time to let them donate. Gay men tend to engage incredibly risky behavior, and wouldn't even close the bathhouses during the rise of AIDS. I have nothing against gay guys, but I wouldn't want blood from them due to the risks involved.

I bet that the article's writer will love the news then

(crossposting [quoting?] from the Wuhan thread)
The FDA is finally easing its restriction on gay and bisexual men donating blood due to 'urgent need'

Trying to imagine how airborne anal ebola would spread. Does it just fly up exposed buttholes?

Here's the Red Cross's guidelines on who is allowed to donate. People who have had ebola in the past, for example, can't donate. People with sickle cell disease also can't donate. People who have just gotten a tattoo need to wait 12 months.(sorry, Tator Phil. No blood donating for you.)
This page encourages those who are ineligible to volunteer at or host a blood drive.

The transmission rate is quite low, getting GRID is a really unlikely thing in the first place.
You pretty much have to be extremely promiscuous and fucking stupid to have a high risk of getting "pozzed".

If faggots weren't such utter degenerates, they wouldn't have spread this plague across the world in the first place.

And the people lobbying for faggot-blood transfusions are the same people lobbying for 9-year-old drag queens...
fuck your faggy sensibilities.

Do Asian countries like China, Japan and South Korea let homos donate blood?
Japan is 6 months post faggotry (in Japan scribbles).

Singapore is 12 months.
Singapore rules said:
You must not donate blood if:
  • You have AIDS or HIV, the virus which causes AIDS.
  • You suspect you may have been exposed to HIV.
  • You have unexplained weight loss, persistent night sweats, fever, diarrhoea or swollen glands. These symptoms could be due to HIV infection or another serious illness. Please see a doctor.
  • You are at risk of HIV infection due to high-risk activities you do presently or in the past.
High-risk activities include the following:
  • Having casual sex
  • Having sex with another man (if you are a male)
  • Having sex with multiple partners
  • Having sex with prostitutes or commercial sex workers
  • Having sex with someone who has HIV/AIDs (ed: isn't this the same as activity 2?)
  • Took or injected yourself with addictive drugs
  • Working as a prostitute or commercial sex worker
It is important not to donate blood if you have been exposed to the HIV virus from high-risk activities. There is a window period in the early stage of HIV infection, lasting several weeks to months, where you may feel well and test negative for the virus, but can still pass it to someone else.
