That "Iran kills US navy with fishing boats and missiles" wargame story was fake and gay, it was some kind of glitch in the computer systems that was exploited, and was immediately corrected. The Navy released a detailed statement about it, if you care enough to search. This is one of those piece of shit 3rd hand anecdotes uncritically exploited by people for political messaging purposes.



Speaking of anecdotes, there's plenty flying around about severe viral outbreaks in black and beaner demos (no, not herpes or AIDS this time lol). My personal one comes 1st and 2nd hand from a smaller town in the South, majority black. Some vector introduced the virus to the area, and the blacks there continued to have parties, barbecues, gatherings, and most notably a large funeral for a recently limited boogie after the first cases were confirmed. Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of community spread, and now this otherwise low density area is a hotspot for the China Virus. The white residents of the area have been openly blaming the jigs for exacerbating the outbreak, and indeed most of the treatment-seeking cases are among blacks.

Thank God for the Great Migration.

It's going to be bad in the city, and you can see that in the statistics. Wayne county (the not-actually-Detroit parts) are pretty bad. Oakland is bad but not terrible... And it really came to light when the county released per-zipcode stats and the high intensity areas were all basically 'the places people moved out of the ghetto into'.

I don't want to turn it into 'it's the blacks lololol' but they're certainly over-represented in the data and it's easy to guess why - poor, bad health statistics, mostly service sector jobs that require a lot of in person contact and intensely active family/social contact. Not being in the city at all I don't know how the downtown core's responding but the resurgence there was always kind of a veneer - if things get as bad as they look like they might it could lead to another hollowing out of downtown.

And remember that 85%+ of Michigan deaths (so far) are in the Detroit metro area, half of those are in Wayne County, and half of those are in the Detroit City limits. The metro area is about 25% Black. Wayne County is 38% Black, and the city proper is 77% Black, so the fact that the state as a whole is 12% Black is irrelevant and the headline is exaggerating the (admittedly real) disparity.

But it also came with speculation that the heaviest might succumb to Corona and put a dent into the average person's BMI that way.

Definitely. You can see that mortality rates are higher with >30 BMI. >30 BMI is medically known as being a terminal hamplanet. And the merely slightly tubby which is probably most of us will lose weight living off bland but long life shit. Decadence increases in times of plenty but those are ended by plagues and wars and so on.

Some woman was on a Detroit bus, coughing erratically, and then killed a bus driver for doing his job. FFS, people are so careless.

I feel sorry for the driver, who seemed like a decent, responsible, hard-working man. I agree the woman is an ass, and people can't do shit like that. However, it does not stand to reason that she necessarily killed him. We don't know that she even carried the virus. Public buses are filled with people all day, many of whom have spent all month on public transportation. He caught it from being in a confined space with a lot of people for hours a day every day. Maybe it was from her, or maybe it was from someone else. Nobody will ever know.

About 12 hours ago the local mayor (Strickland) encouraged Memphians to wear face covering (headline says that, what he actually said is masks or scarves) even if you are well. I found this out bc my dad called me, thanking me for making him buy masks in early February.

On the retail front, it was strongly implied we were going to limit in store shopping to "essentials only" and anything else will be curbside pickup. From what I understand, this will only be at stores in hard hit areas though. It will probably be a shitshow.

I'm still coming to term with being so close to the epicenter. I knew it was inevitable, but it's still scary. We're only allowing 20% capacity now. There is an armed police officer in front of the store. Aisles are all marked one way and plexiglass barriers were put up for the cash registers. I am not sure if every store is getting this or if it's just in this state.

Second coworker was diagnosed positive yesterday. The first case actually just returned to work. She was an asymptomatic carrier, but she couldn't return until she tested negative, I believe she was out for about 3 weeks. She only got tested because someone in her household had it, she probably wouldn't have known otherwise.

The store will be providing masks to employees. It seems like only yesterday that we weren't allowed to wear them at all, now they're giving them to us. I appreciate it though.

It's up in the air whether or not we'll have any in stock to sell customers any time soon. Initially we were diverting shipments of them to healthcare workers, but I was told we may atleast be getting some surgical style masks eventually. I'll believe it when I see it though.

Miracle of miracles, we got a palette of hand sanitizer. It's been almost a month since we've had full sized bottles. Alcohol came in as well. These are the two items that have been the most scarce.

Morale is a bit all over the place, I think it seems pretty good though. It's hard to tell, because bitching about work is a sport with most retail workers even during good times.

Philadelphia is 42.27% black. It would be odd if there was a very small black population. But there isn't. However, poverty is pretty rampant. But wypipo live in many of those hoods too. It's not like these issues are black only. If I knew what neighborhoods these deaths were in I would have a better picture. But it looks like most of them were nursing home residents.

Hey is anybody starting to lose weight from:

a) restaurant food being (literally) off the table?
b) needing to ration every can of beans that crosses your threshold?
c) only "some" of every food item to go around during meals?
d) not being able to get together with friends and family for potlucks and coffee and high-calorie cake?
e) boredom-induced cleaning and organizing binges?
f) increased cleaning due to the sheer number of people in the house 24 hrs a day?
g) more rest?

Just wondering.

I have lost 10 pounds this week, though it's probably water weight. Mostly eating rice and canned chicken breast. AlsoCutting back on alcohol which is hard because whiskey definitely takes the edge off right now.

PL I guess: I live in Texas and for the most part, there haven't been that many shortages (at least in the city I live in). Foodwise in most grocery stores, staple foods such as eggs, bread, Mmilk, rice, fresh meat etc. are being limited to one "unit" per person, the same goes for toilet paper, Clorox Wipes and bleach. I shop at Market Street, which is owned by Mormons, and was the first grocery store to implement this one "unit" per person rule. So I suppose they deserve a thank you for showing some initiative and MAKING people calm the fuck down and not horde shit. The only other anomaly that I am seeing is more people wearing masks when they are out and that security has been significantly amped up in grocery stores and there are a lot more people open carrying than normal.
