At 10 bucks an hour Jake's $800 from Patreon would translate to 80 hours worked per month, I don't know if he could argue that it is a form of self-employment or freelancing/consulting of some kind but I know for certain he won't try. A quick search does show you can qualify through self employment. Tax returns are an option as well as self reporting on a form. His willful, even purposeful, helplessness will never not be funny.

I think he's started to become concerned that after "I never said I was a journalist, leave me alone" that Patreon might take down his page if he's not producing literally anything whatsoever for his patrons to consume. Since writing articles that aren't tweets or forum posts would be a lot of work and he's very tired from all those twitter reports he has no choice but to file daily, he's decided his content production should shift gears toward something lower-effort that also lets him try to reclaim one of his very early dreams from high school: making all his money by playing vidya and talking about it with like-minded fellows.
