Actually, scratch that, it makes sense that idiots would think like this. They have such a bad understanding of the economy that they genuinely think CEOs directly get all of their pay from each and every singular sale made at a singular store.

I'd guess that in the rare cases of "lifters" who are capable of experiencing empathy it's also how they assuage their guilt, they convince themselves they're not hurting another person who is just like them but a big evil Richer who has been safely and completely Othered into a faceless monster. Not that such is applicable here since I think it's pretty well established by this point that this cow does not give a shit about anyone but themselves.
