Of course Jess doubles down. Again, not surprised.
This is why people were telling others since the New Guy incident NOT to give Jess another chance. Not everyone wants to change and just because people CAN doesn't mean they WILL. And until Jess gets her act together (which I highly doubt it) she won't. Already she's hiding behind her identity to get less flak for what she did because some idiots think that if you're automatically a minority, you can do no wrong.
Other than a few idiots, NO ONE is running a harassment campaign against her. No one cares enough to do so ironically enough. If that was the case, she would be getting crap long before these comics in which it """suddenly""" blew up. People care that she put her crappy opinion on the internet, people reacted, and now she can't take the heat.
I think the justification is "I suffer more from society because I am queer, therefore you should let me get away with crimes because other people get kicked out on the street for being gay."
Jess has, in the past, done comics about how her father was openly homophobic and how her mother is still grappling with her gender identity and doesn't really get it (but clearly still loves her), but I don't know how any of that justifies shoplifting, especially art supplies.
There are plenty of other LGBT people who suffered a lot in life but still were upstanding enough not to reduce themselves to petty crimes. Jess, I feel, just wants that dopamine rush (whether or not she does it to feel better about her family situation, I dunno. People can debate all day about that. Plenty of kids do use crimes as an extreme measure to gain a rush or attention that they desperately want). It doesn't even justify anything because we know Jess has money. Unlike a lot of people in her circumstances she's privileged enough to get luxury items (a Cintiq is one of the more expensive tablets out there). With all that in mind and the position she's in, it doesn't help her case. I don't know what even lead her to think that normal people would like her comic.
