Actually no that's not common sense. If someone saw someone with an AK, they call the police. Then the police would get the footage from the store if they needed it. The important thing in the moment is call the police before someone gets hurt- no one thinks oh I need to get a picture of this person's face to show the police because they know that the store has cameras lmao. Besides, the guy has a fucking gun, that's a pretty big identifier in this situation so you don't need a photo of the person so they know who to look for, you just call the police and say "hey there's a person with a fucking gun in this shop help!"

No one said to get the footage immediately, no one would ever think to get the footage immediately either. A child just plummeted out of a window, most people wouldn't even have the thought crossing their mind to take some video footage. But our good old Onion friend isn't most people I guess, and instead of telling the police later "hey, I have tons of cameras around and I'm sure at least one of them would have seen what happened" he took some footage of the window himself after the event, which helps literally no one. Anyone standing just in the same spot could be pointed to where she fell, you don't need a video to show that.
