Hi. Spain news here. Hospital seems normal, no spike or anything. But until next week we can't really relax. We have had one issue we're trying to solve though. But it's more complex than it seems.
See. I'm usualy a huge advocate of the Bolsas, they have fixed a lot of the corruption in this country very nicely. But as I mentioned before they sometimes have some issues. Thing is today's issue, depending on how you see it, isn't a real issue at all. But it is still unfair and it still causes problems.
Let me explain how a bolsa works. Bolsas are lists, employees are ranked by entrance exams and many other sources of points, such as prior work in the field, studies, etc. And every 4 months the lower jobs that aren't stabled are gotten out of the bolsa, the most points should in theory be the most adept anyway. And after a certain time and standing you can apply to permanent jobs, staying on the hospital until either you leave your job or you fuckup so incredibly than we gotta fire you.
Seems right. Right? It's a technocratic, transparent hiring method which culls a lot of the nepotism and bullshit of other systems. Well. As I explained on prior messages, it has the issue that since for certain jobs tards get free points slmetimes you get some hilariously incompetent shit sith the bolsa hiring someone literally phisically incapable of doing the job. Just to illustrate, the union on the Provincial hospital once had to tell someone to please stop applying for the job because they were applying for security, while being in a wheelchair. Do I even need to explain why we can't have someone that can't run trying to catch gypsies? It also has many issues with the program not recognizing merits because the wrong field was filled or it wasn't written properly or sometimes it's just fucking stupid for no reason really. This is a program after all, bugs are... distressingly common.
Todays issue isn't the usual though. You see. When coronavirus started the number of temporary jobs was greatly expanded, and the government said those working under corona would get extra points. And still, plenty of people from the list retracted their submission and ran with the tail between their legs. So we didn't get the best and brightest with our last round, but we sure got plenty of extremely valid people. But of course now that things look good and they think they can get those extra points for fucking free those bastards are coming back in droves. And the program says we gotta let them get away with it too. This causes ample issues:
-from an objective standpoint. We've had to train for corona people practically from scratch, the protocols have all changed. And these aint 1 or 2 dumbasses we gotta replace it's like a full cuarter of our current temporary employees it's a fucking nightmare from a logistical standpoint.
-furthermore. You think the assholes that ran at the first sign of trouble then came back for free gibs as soon as they thought they could take advantage will be the best in case of another outbreak? If anything many think such a display should be greatly fucking punished because you can't trust these fucking bastards. With corona smelling down our neck I don't want the guy I have to trust to hold the flank to be someone like that!
-and finally ethically. A point could be made that the bolsa is objective and bending is at least some degree of nepotism... is it though? We got some incredible motherfuckers over here that've gotten sent to the front fucking lines naked for 2 fucking outbreaks now and they held the god damned line like no one else could. We still got multiple of our own in ventilators from that and thankfully we only got 2 deaths and neither were hospital employees but we're still scared shitless of what's gonna happen when the next wave comes. These fucking people have shown a level of devotion to their country that is fucking amazing. And we now gotta kick them to the curb to give gibbs to those assholes that backstabbed us at the first sign of trouble?! God damnit I may be no real soldier but I understand loyalty well enough that this shit's making my blood boil.
Thankfully, one of our unioners has found a way and it's not too late we still got like a week and some days to spare, so we're launching a campaign to fix it. The way is simple, issue is it's the directives at province level that gotta do it and you've already seen how retarded they are. You see, under emergencies, you can declare precisely for the logistical nightmare I explained above that for 1 period (each period is 4 months) contracts will renew automatically. Meaning the bolsa doesn't trigger. Meaning you don't gotta kick the people who've given it all to the curb in the middle of a pandemic. We're going public and loud and even negotiating for real with those bastards so I hope they realize they can put some medals on their chest with this shit and just do it. Part of me doesn't like favoritism even on this but, there's not a single part of me that doesn't scream that this is indeed the right thing to do. There's a limit to ideology. And this crossed that.

Except for a brief time between january 2005 and may 2008, span has had over 10% unemployment since 1986. That is the WORST the 2008 crisis every brought us to in the US. We hit 10% in october 2009, at our peak. Spain at the time had 18.6%, and it wouldnt peak until february of 2013 at 26.3%! It's unemployment numbers follow right around the now bankrupt Greece. When you have constant near depression levels of unemployment for decades, the cost of living is going to be severely depressed.
"NEAR"
Spain-chan at this point, much like eastern europeans during the soviet era, has just learned to live with the depression.
But jokes aside. Most people here don't move out until they make their own family, that's true, but we still got roofs, electricity, water, good food, internet, most have phones. Outside of vehicles all we really lack compared with america is cars and public transport is top notch really, and due to the flat-based cities everything's closer here. Just some pages ago one or the burgerkiwis was proud of docs in boxes because "he always has a practitioner 15 minutes away" but over here outside of super rural villages that are nearly abandoned most areas got a hospital 15 minutes away, that's why we don't need that, 'cause seriously just look at a map of cadiz capital. That's a province capital, it's a big city with a good population, yet you can get pretty much from one side to the other with a 1h walk. And we even got africans pulling the same stunt mexicans pull over there to go back home rich. Now I ain't no economist, but I dare say your cost of living's risen a tad too high. I mean, our living standards are comparable yet we get them for like half of what you pay. And the advantages you quoted with phones and laptops, well when it comes to phones they get here about as fast but are never as successful, and laptops don't but that's because of the temperature. No I'm not kidding spain needs specialized laptops because shit's so hot the ones used by nothern europeans literally cook themselves too often. Point is. I guess this has always been spain's greatest strength, that we've learned to survive pretty much anything, but, I gotta wonder where so much money goes over there anyway.
