Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I think this is the mental state some people in power are aiming for, tbh

On a serious note; the continuous data blast of numbers, speculation, theories and the need to keep cross referencing everything to make sure what your reading is not old news, bullshit etc can jelly the brain. It might even become a specific mental disorder with the combination of information/disinformation, stress, anxiety and paranoia .

PCSD - Post Covid Stress Disorder perhaps
Thats an immensely simplistic angle to adopt.

However, I have paid my researchers to trawl through your sordid internet history, and the only actionable angle to take is that in dog years, you're gay.

So in today's "the media makes no sense ever". Brought to you by the big brains at Politico.

Look, I've tried very hard to contain my thoughts about the way the US has been handling this. I just can't contain it anymore.

Is there a point in which you think, despite how rabidly #MAGA you might be, that Donald Trump is "not quite there"?

Mass graves in New York? #MAGA

Being modern-day Pirates? #MAGA

Reopening your country, before you've 'flattened the curve'? #MAGA
Thanks for dropping by and letting us know you haven't read the thread (we covered all of that as it was happening), and that you are entirely uninformed from even external news sites.

I listen to each and every 'briefing' he gives, and my post was during his latest ("how good are my ratings?").

So go on. Keep neg-rating me. IDGAF.

Here in Ohio, DeWine didn't say anything deliberate or helpful. Just "we're going to start to reopen May 1st and it's up to the individual" so I'm really looking forward to waves of my countrymen (I say that in a disgraced fashion) dropping dead and scratching their heads while wondering, "how could we have stopped this?"

I'll check back into reality when Trump swings from the gallows. Until then, I'm living my best life away from everyone and everything.

We get it. Orange Man Bad and (NOT NOT NOT NOT YOU WAYCIST) China Coof is scary.

You know what else is scary? We're 3 months in on this, we've probably got another 18-24 months to go, and we're already almost bankrupt. No, the money printer does not go "brrrr" forever, only marxist idiots (but I repeat myself) believe that. We're gonna have to start opening up, the sooner the better. There's a reason you don't listen to only the medical experts, because if they had their way, we'd all be locked in bunkers for the next 2 years, and we do have other considerations.

China wants us to wait so they can get a head start which will be extremely valuable to them, which is why you're being programmed to be so terrified. Are you aware they're faking the US numbers even more than they're faking the Chinese numbers? ORANGE MAN BAD BE SCARED VOTE BIDEN IT WAS HUR TURN

But relax! Tthere is good news on the horizon.

Massive unemployment? Upset populous? Looming depression and inflation?

War economy time!

I can't wait till we start dropping firebombs on Wuhan's virus labs. I just hope they livestream Xi's execution for crimes against humanity. Make sure every hipster marxist for the next 30 years has to watch that shit in school.

I'm actually a conservative, not a 'Marxist' as you'd probably like to believe.

We're not reopening things for at least another month.

You lot keep on doing you.

It's been mentioned a few pages back that Google and Apple are planning on rolling out bluetooth based contact tracing "apps" . Not really apps, more like a core functionality feature.

These are just a collection of news articles on this , as I'm treating this thread as an historical record now. :Autistic: . I want it to track what we were thinking and saying as things progressed, as it's too easy to lie about the past.

One thing of interest that does not seem adequately covered is why we need this fancy bluetooth based system (or other alternative) ?
Your smartphone and google account already know where you are and where you've been . I mean , I've told my google account not to store this data, no google timeline for me, but I don't really believe it's not being tracked. So why this faffing about with anonymous bluetooth tokens etc? Just don't want to spook the peasants I guess. Can't have all the population suddenly realising they're being tracked.
Only valid reason I can think of is that bluetooth range might give better resolution of who you were actually physically near to. GPS on different devices can be a bit unreliable. Maybe?
Anyway:

The Reg. Usually trustworthy UK tech site. Understands tech, not journo scum, and the comments section is often informed also.
Amusing story about the Chinese Gov. app that can be green status when you leave for work, but then turns red later. Leading to all sorts of humourous situations. Like being shot in the head.

The Register, talking about exit strategy for contact tracing (archive) . Only place that considers downsides and slippery slope.

So Trump leaving it up to the states on whether to re-open or not: Yes. That's the correct move for now. He's not a dictator, contrary to TDS sufferers' belief. It also places power and blame on the governors if they thrive or fuck up (as it should in the first place, as state governments matter). Politically, it's a smart move for Trump to make.

It's also just a plain practical move. Not every state is New York (that's heavily infected and densely populated), and not every state is Alaska (where everyone practices social distancing anyway lol). If the threat level is low for some states, then why not try to re-open things? The economy cannot take this massive standstill for much longer.

Also, let's say that the "America opens" tomorrow, in all states: You can still choose to stay home and practice social distancing. If you think that everyone is so dumb to go outside, then just stay home and enjoy the natural selection. Nobody is forcing you to go to restaurants and crowded parks.

Whenever restrictions are lifted in my state, I'm still going to play it safe by wearing masks in public, by only going out when it's necessary, and by avoiding heavily crowded areas. It's not like people aren't allowed to practice these common sense things once restrictions are lifted, lol.

You can lift restrictions and lockdowns while simultaneously still promoting and recommending social distancing and self-quarantine.

I don't know what to think anymore about this pandemic. I'm following this thread though. You guys are posting very useful and insightful information, so thank you! I wish I had useful input, but I don't.

All I know is that I want this pandemic to go away, I hope none of my family members or friends get it, and I want life to go back to normal.

All of us do. But for now we help each other get through it, as best we can. 👍

I predict Trump's detractors will look at his decision to leave opening up to state governors and say "Well I didn't vote for the guy and there are many issues of policy on which I disagree but this is a very reasonable policy which I can't find fault with".

Trump cant tell the State governors what to do on this. That has always been the rub. Trump can order the federal workers back to work, order the States to no longer do "is this essential travel" stops on Federal highways and open international ports of entry. Barring stuff like that, the State Governors have pretty wide latitude.

It's like everyone, including the States it should be noted, forgot this was a federal system of government. American Politics is going to be interesting over the coming years. It's not like all these state officials are suddenly going to forget they had all this power all along.

It's coming into winter, those cases are going to go up by a lot in the next month.
You are fucked for then next 6 months.
Did you actually notice I used an 'at least' qualifier?

I can't see our borders reopening to tourism until the end of this year, next Feb I reckon.

But, please. Remind me when we're burying people in mass graves in the middle of our most populous city.

My immediate thought -- If they're using bluetooth and not the phone itself, they can do shit like put in external scanners for this shit at stores, stop lights, et cetera, and thus would know whomever goes near something or wherever you go without your permission, and no way to opt out. Yeah, the theory is, pandemic only, but the Patriot Act was supposed to be terrorism only and has been used to target center-right conservatives for the crime of disagreeing with Mastercard, so you should probably expect this shit to be used by the feds, the police, and Google AdSense as soon as people forget about it.

Sensors are fun. A fed could walk into a group of Antifa and ping, suddenly he knows every single fucking black masked idiot attending, instantly, and not only that, they could then use the bluetooth PAN feature to know what other Antifa people they meet with afterwards, where they meet them (thanks to GPS), et cetera. Instantly creating a digital contact web. Heck, it wouldn't even have to be a Fed, they could leave it in the trunk of a car on the side of the street and ping ping ping, every single person that walks by, their phone ID grabbed with a timestamp. Combine that with a hidden camera to ID individuals, maybe do this repeatedly so you can narrow it down a bit...

Oh, did you use a burner phone like a good little commie blackshirt? Well, I bet you took your burner phone home, and brought it into PAN range of your real phone. Ping!

With both Apple and Google doing it that's 99.9% of the phone market in the US. You won't be allowed to opt out.

The only option is to prevent them from doing this in the first place, but they seem to be of the opinion that your civil rights don't matter anymore because just absolutely because.

Granted they supposedly have a similar tech that uses audio instead of bluetooth. Your phone listens for a high frequency sound and dials home if it hears it, so they can make a noise and find out who all is in say, a drug house they want to raid, or what have you.

Man, just wait till you hear about Hart Island.

Oh wait that's fine because it's not ORANGE MANBAD.
