Most social justice warriors and their ilk repeatedly defend countries like Venezuela because their governments are supposedly for free education, health care and what not. But you peel the surface you'll see how inaccurate the narrative is.

Well, Venezuela and Cuba are the closest things communism/full-on state socialism have to a success story...which should tell you something about communism's viability.

Venezuela didn't go full DSA until Chavez got into power in the late 90's and had all that extra oil money to plow through, which is why it looked like Venezuela would be the one to make actual socialism "work" in the 2000's.

China didn't become the second-most powerful nation in the world until after Deng Xiaoping's economic reforms in the 1970's.

The PRC is really the worst of both worlds, and hasn't practiced communist economics since the late 1970's, but they still have a lot of the social and civil policies of a communist state.

China can best be described as "crony capitalism with communist characteristics"
