If Kate is THAT desperate for earning her own home for herself and her husband, she'd be searching at the lower end, in cheaper areas, as most first-time buyers should and do. Since game development is actually hard, he's going to keep it going with small worthless updates that don't match the amount of money taken, for years and then defend it with "game development takes time".
