Something catastrophic did happen. She had a hysterectomy. She gorged up until the day of the operation and started gorging again immediately after. Nothing is going to change her. She deserves whatever happens to her. But unfortunately, she is like one of the cockroaches she co-habitated with. It will take a lot to take her out.

This is a very good point. She's had lung clots and has something so bad with her lungs currently that she got a CT scan during a pandemic and was referred to a specialist. She indeed gorged like there was no tomorrow before and after her hysterectomy, wherein, she claims, one of the tumors removed weighed 7 pounds. She cannot talk without getting out of breath. She's so fat she can barely stand up and when she sits down she more or less collapses into the chair because her muscles cannot handle the strain of her lowering herself to sit normally.

None of that changed her behavior one bit. Just having to heave yourself into a chair would be a wakeup call to most people. At this point I really can't think of what could be catastrophic enough to make her get her shit together. I guess we're just watching the final decline as she slowly entombs herself on the second floor of the apartment. All that's left to speculate about is how long she can last: will a clot finally take her out or will she linger on, a smelly, enormous ghost haunting the kitchen and powder room.

I say all of this because I wonder if there is still enough of a functioning human in her to understand how fucking terrible this is. To be as old as she is, to live like this, to have nothing in her life but food, to aspire to nothing but obtaining and eating food. For a second I wondered if her sad, groveling request that she and Bibi be FWB was her realizing how alone she really is, but I think it has more to do with inveigling her way back into the food rut she was in.

I think once a month, if not once every two months, Chantal does have this startling, horrific realization. She chimps out massively, goes through some dumb cleanse while baby voicing us and lecturing us simultaneously. It just never lasts because this woman's one consuming thought has and always will be food. It's the only thing that keeps those thoughts away. She is essentially an alcoholic trying to numb her own brain. Except in this case, I'd favor an alcoholic, because Chantal's blazing through Burger King and Dairy Queen to stop herself from thinking about how much she's ruined her life.

She's what - 36 now? She's well into the decade where the body loses its ability to adapt to years of mistreatment. She's ignoring blatant red flags as it is & should she get a 'bad' diagnosis, she'll simply denial eat her way through what passes for processing in her flatworm brain - apologies to our nematode cousins.

Could someone enlighten me on these things that Chantal has that we want? Is it a BMI of over 75? Is it pre-diabetes? Is it how in shape she is ? ( hey, round IS a shape!) Is it the way she craps her pants on a regular basis?
