🐱 Author of book about victim blaming bombarded with misogynist abuse - A saga so harrowing you’d think it were a publicity stunt if it weren’t so real and true and honest

A British academic whose new book is about why women are blamed for crimes committed against them has been subjected to thousands of coordinated attacks from alt-right trolls over the last week, culminating in her personal computer being hacked.
Dr Jessica Taylor, a senior lecturer in forensic and criminal psychology, is due to publish her exploration of victim blaming, Why Women are Blamed for Everything, on 27 April. Looking into what causes society to blame women who have been abused, raped, trafficked, assaulted or harassed by men, the book has drawn increasing publicity, including an appearance on Woman’s Hour.

But since 17 April, Taylor has been targeted by what she describes as a “group of organised trolls” who align themselves with the “alt-right”, men’s rights activists, incel (involuntary celibates) and Mgtow (men going their own way) movements, who have posted thousands of messages on her public Facebook page, including rape and death threats. On 21 April, Taylor contacted police when the screen on her laptop was remotely accessed. The investigation is ongoing.
“They had total control of my keyboard and mouse. I tried to stop them … after about 30 seconds of this, I realised how serious it was and I shut my laptop down and ran inside to turn my wifi off and shut all other devices down,” Taylor told the Guardian on Friday.
For five days, she was receiving 100 comments every few minutes, “everything from telling me to die, kill myself, messages saying ‘I will rape you’, messages saying I am not a real psychologist or PhD, that I’m fat, ugly, disgusting, dyke, ugly lesbian, barren, infertile, will die alone, that my parents hate me etc … When we started banning and blocking, they really ramped it up and it became violent and abusive.”

By Friday, more than 2,000 accounts had been blocked from her Facebook page.
Taylor is the founder of VictimFocus, an international research, teaching and consultancy organisation which aims to challenge the victim blaming of women subjected to violence and abuse. Her book is based on her doctoral research and on her 10 years of practice with women and girls, including interviews with women who were blamed for being raped, and the professionals who supported them.
“I knew the book needed to be written – but I didn’t know it needed to be written this badly. The targeted attacks from men in the last week have been appalling. I will always centre women in my work and I will keep making misogynists uncomfortable. Abuse and trolling is scary and it’s exhausting, but it’s never going to get me to a point where I say, ‘I will just stop talking about the abuse of women and girls,’” said Taylor.

She said the book was “written for every single woman and girl who has been told that she had to do something differently, change something about herself or make her life smaller so she isn’t subjected to male violence. I’ve had enough and millions of other women have had enough, too … [This book] has made a lot of men angry. You have to ask why that is. What are they frightened of?”

I've gotten in arguments with female friends of mine about victim blaming. How is it "victim blaming" if you suggest that women shouldn't walk home alone after drinking in Bed-stye, Brooklyn at 2am, or go jogging after dark in Central Park if they don't want to get raped? That's not victim blaming, that's survival advice. I'm a man and i follow that advice too.

I see what she did there, the "hackers" raped her computer thats a new one.
Also X to doubt that even happened.
It’s almost as if the whole scenario was like a law and order episode or something

"If you're not killed in an abuse episode, is it really abuse?"

...are women actually being taught to take responsibility for themselves? Even trying to explain that in a clearly safe situation, you need to be able to reciprocate or reject someone's advances as soon as they become clear or you become uncomfortable and failure to do so only appears as a green light to continue, is understood as "victim blaming" to them. If you assert that assaulted women need to promptly preserve evidence the best they can and go to the police or hospital or both in response to someone telling their story and naming names decades later instead of immediately affirming their accusation, you get barraged with "this is why women don't go to the police in the first place!", and "believe victims".

the entire concept of "victim blaming" basically boils down to people (usually women) refusing to take any responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
their memes like "don't teach women not to walk alone at night, teach men not to rape instead!" really illustrate this.
it's like climbing in the lion cage at the zoo to touch the cute big cats - sure, they might like it and purr a bit and roll over so you can pet them. but they might also decide that you look tasty and take a bite out of your leg. you can't tell beforehand, so the rational choice is to not take that risk in the first place.

btw men avoid walking around shady parts of town alone too, especially at night, because getting jumped, robbed and killed is a real danger for us too.

Why do all the women who look like this make me want to slaughter humanity until Doom Guy tries to take me down?

Probably because their appearance is purposefully trying to be as obnoxious as possible.

Nevermind the big schnoz and FUCKING HUMONGOUS glasses, what does it for me are the bangs. They make her look fucking horrible.

its part of a grander resolve to make idiots unaccountable. ivs been working in the last 2 decades and ive seen a gradual slide in work quality as millennials and zoomers enter the workforce. the last 2 years alone ive seen kids argue with management about needing more breaks or creating a safe space job with zero customer interaction and work because of "my mental health".

remember the women who wanted to show off mankinds innate human kindness and bikes across warzones and shitholes? a lot of them were raped and killed. youd think "yeah thats a
dumb idea, whatd you expect?"

its worse with lib christianity since they forget sin is a thing (unless its racism, sexi)

There's a pair of factors at play that make this an especially stupid comment from "Doctor Hooverschnoz, Ph.D".

You don't get to move the goalposts from "abusive" to "murder", when discussing the phenomenon of domestic violence, you hack, since the majority of people that jump from... and ninja'd by @Zero Day Defense. Also, the UK is notorious for it's failure to properly specifically count women committing crimes, and treating them as severely, Eg. - the crime of a woman raping a man isn't legally defined or counted as 'rape', it's counted as "assault by penetration', which is still a badly worded batch of onus-reversing bullshit.

I'm a complete fucking idiot with tech, and the only way that happens is if you use applications that allow remote desktop access and control, like RemotePC.

And after seeing the size of her nostrils, I immediately thought of this comic-

The meme's really starting to get to them. That's really funny.
Also, if she got the police involved she needs to post receipts.

Besides the obvious dubiousness of yelling on how you are attacked because of the book you are just about to sell. I hate how feminists tend to expand subjects to extremes no one except Jamal will support:

No one sane will blame women for trafficking.
Not to mention it ignores the fact that women also do the blaming quite a bit and that depending on the crime men will face just as bad bias (obvious example are male victims of spousal abuse).
But this is a common theme of all progressives, like the shit posts about "blaming black people" for their deaths at the hands of police.

Nobody is "blaming" them for anything merely pointing out punching someone whose armed with gun in the face is going to result in a high probablity of them using said gun to defend themselves.

I'm amazed that in just 10 short days, the entire internet came together and coordinated this colossal hate attack on someone whose only notable public achievement is publishing a book, and that the people responsible for the attack are conveniently the exact people that the book claims are the evil controlling force in society!

How neat is that?
