MOD NOTE:

There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

The leaked press release was pre-written death statement, however, it's very likely it was released accidentally on purpose.
All KJU death stories in SK are to be suppressed atm, until an official statement from NK is made, so take that as you will.

Also, today is the 88th anniversary of the Foundation of the People's Revolutionary Army (not to be mistaken for the People's Army, the main army).

Whilst it's not a major big deal, it's a big enough deal that if KJU is A-OK like the Chinese Medical Team say, then he should be doing something today.
Tomorrow will tell, but if nothing happens for it today, it will be interesting to say the least.

North Korea has wrapped the entire legitimacy of their state around the Kim family. They claim to be commies but are in fact a divine right monarchy. And now they have fallen into the exact pitfall such a government system has. What happens if the divine king dies without a legitimate heir?

If history is any guide we are going to see an absolutely brutal power struggle between people with competing claims or enough power to believe they can make a play for the throne without one. I would not want to be one of Kim Jong Uns wives, concubine or infant right now.

In an ideal world DONALD JOHN TRUMP and DENIS RODMAN would team up to lead the beleaguered northernmost Korean nation. And it would be filmed as a reality show.

Meh, i'll believe he's dead when I see it. Not that it would be all that surprising given he clearly does have some health problems that have been showing up publicly for awhile now, but like others have said they've cried wolf way too many times on that front

That said, if by chance he really is dead the north korean people are in for a real bad time one way or another. It would set in motion a series of events that will be very difficult to avoid ending with what little economy they have imploding as the inevitable direct or indirect fight for the leadership goes on

Mhhm North Korean refugees in China Milions of them, while China is going throught crisis and World is hostile to them. CIA if you want to be useful you know what do.

This assumes that the brass behind the Kim monarchy don't have a contingency plan to smoothly shift power to another person.

Though North Korea did kill off contenders for Kim's power, so maybe there is a bit of a struggle going on.
What usually happens is that with several contenders, you have different groups back different contenders due to their power or influence depending on who gets picked. If North Korea is in such a state right now, we might see struggles for power. Otherwise, maybe they have a system in place to prevent that.

You have to give it to the Norks, they migth not be rich, but they are cunning. They managed to cling to this idiotic political system far longer than anyone else.

Watch Fatboy just rock up to the military parade today like 'I rive mothufuckas!'

Or this is all a ploy by China to distract the West from yelling at them about the Kung Flu.

China doesn't want to claim North Korea as part of China. They want and need it as a buffer zone. They will install a puppet, wholesale rape it for its natural resources and occasionally stir up the Nork's to cause trouble against the west. But rest assured the first thing China did if Kim Jong Un is dead, is secure the nuclear launch codes. They've never been real happy about having a Nuclear armed hermit kingdom on their borders. They already have a few too many of those.
Back in 2002, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, as part of the Northeast Project, did attempt to claim that the Kingdom of Goguryeo (Which was based partially in Manchuria, but mostly in the Korean Peninsula) was part of Chinese regional history, which ended up causing quite a bit of controversy between China and both Koreas. Compile that with the fact that most of North Korea did belong to the Han Dynasty 2000 years ago, it does give them a potential precedent to claim that North Korea is a part of China.

Of course, it's extremely unlikely that China would do this, but the potential is there if things go tits-up in North Korea.

China wants a buffer state between them and US military bases.

Japanese media reported rocket man had a heart attack and needed a stent put in to break a clot. But nobody in North Korea could do the procedure and they had to fly in someone who could. The delay caused kim to lapse into a vegetative state.

Also lol at having a fucking coronary at 36. His people die of having too little food and he dies due to eating too much. It's like poetry. It rhymes.

If it was what the Japanese media said it was, rocket man is screwed. That sort of heart attack is survivable, if you get taken into surgery immediately. People survive it by CPR on the scene, followed by intensive measures on a hopefully quick ambulance ride and getting dragged into the operating room immediately on arrival. Having to wait hours? It's a miracle he's only a vegetable and not dead already.

He's not going to recover though. I bet right now they are debating whether to pull the plug or else go the Imperium of Man route with an undying lord entombed within a life support system.

If the the elite songbun can’t grab control, the military or Un’s terrifying sister will take one of his sons as use him a a regent/ pawn to claim legitimacy. In some ways Un’s sister is in a prime position to consolidate power for herself but she can not be the public face - it must be a man. I could easily see her installing one of her newphews or a blood relation General to be the face of power while she actually holds the reigns. I’m sure someone will claim to rule on behalf of one of Un’s son until he is of age to rule.

What’s interesting is who will NK blame for his death? You’d think USA or SK but they will probably have to pick a internal power or group that they believe has a chance at taking power so they can eradicate any threat to their conslidation of power in the vacuum.

I'm sure they could blame the United States but I don't really see how that would work. If their population finds out that the Glorious Leader's fate was in the hands of a Chinese medical team that arrived too late, I don't see many other ways that ends up going than "It's China's fault."

"They only liked us for our resources anyway."
