MOD NOTE:

There's so much news about North Korea right now and what Un is doing, I got a suggestion for a NK megathread, so here it is. Post the world's greatest nation's antics here. I'm merging a few of the more recent threads to continue discussion.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has pushed for a new plan for a rapid war with North Korea and an overhaul of the country's defense industry to overwhelm and crush the North's government, the South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reported Tuesday.

Moon took office in May promising to attempt to engage diplomatically with North Korea and seek peace, but in the months since, the North has provoked the international community with missile tests at a blistering pace.

For some time, South Korea has been training a "decapitation force," reportedly with the help of the US Navy's SEAL Team 6, but now an increasingly bold North Korea may demand quicker action.

South Korea's new plan identifies more than 1,000 targets for precision missile fires and sites for marines to drop in and quickly kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the paper reported.

The plan represents a more independent version of South Korea's current plan, which relies on support from US aircraft carriers. As it stands, no major military commander recommends military action against North Korea, which has a staggering array of conventional — and potentially nuclear — weapons pointed at Seoul, where 26 million call home.

But South Korea's new plan to quickly and decisively dominate the North relies on reforming the defense-acquisition process and cutting out wasteful spending to wield the full might of its economic dominance against Pyongyang, according to the report. For that reason, don't expect the plan to take effect anytime soon.

You just fucking know the Japs are already hard at work on the Manga version of this. With the necessary twist. Young Highschool Girl discovers she's the secret sister to Dear Leader, and gets whisked away to become the Supreme Leader. Hijinks ensue.

Modern Japan would somehow turn it into an isekai.

I have no way if knowing if any of this is true so I'll take your word but, really? Jesus Christ fatass, all you had to do was go to China to get an MRI, how could you be such a fucking, stupid moron.
Foreign doctors have been allowed into perform very simple cataract surgeries on loyal NK citizens because they lacked the equipment and expertise to even offer such a simple procedure to their own people. After having the bandages removed the citizens thanked a poster of Un instead of the doctors who performed the surgeries.

Video on NK cataract surgeries

Now you can say well this is for more average citizens, not the elite, but NK doctors only get experience by performing surgeries on average people. Cataract surgery is basic surgery, the doctor in this video performed 1,000 surgeries in 10 days. The fact they can’t provide this for their citizen is significant.

Due to sanctions and the pariah status NK doctors have not been able to travel to other countries for advance training techniques or education in decades. To even allow it would be an admission that NK isn’t the best and enemy nations have superior technology. I’ve read they sometimes acquire advanced medical equipment but then really don’t know how to use it properly.

Finally, the famine and less plentiful food mean most NK are thin and don’t suffer from clogged arteries like you have in the west. Un would be their only patient with severe obesity, (rumored) diabetes, clogged arteries, etc...he’s like an alien species compared to the average NK. Even when you see photos of Un with other elites he is by far the only fat one. Even the VIPs in NK haven‘t porked up like Un. At most they might carry an extra 20 lbs.

the Soviet Union did this dance a number of times. Chernenko, Andropov come to mind. The whole “nothing to see here!Yuri who? Never heard of him? Our leader is perfectly fine and healthy. We’ll let you know his new name later.”
No kidding. Besides the NK ambassadors and diplomats will be the very last to know about Un’s death. When his father died they were only notified about an hour before the news was announced on NK TV. No way they will risk that info being spread to reps for foreign outposts.

Being a stationed in a NK embassy means you are not part of the inner circle. It’s where they send loyal VIPs for a cushy position but far away from any power and influence.

In the book I read the most important mission a NK diplomat in the UK ever got was obtaining Eric Clapton concert tickets for one of Un’s brothers and escorting him to the show. (The diplomat was very proud of doing this service until he told his children. His children were horrified that a Kim family member and their father would attend a decadent western music concert after being raised to consider such things evil and forbidden. This eventually started the process of the diplomat defecting.)

I thought NK took good care of their military guys, at the very least.
I was surprised when a soldier defected to SK a few years back, and the SK doctors said he was full of parasites and not in the greatest health for his fairly young age.

The country just seems severely fucked in my opinion.

For NK that is in good condition.

F pressed prematurely maybe. Although there's speculation that while not dead he's in a vegetative state, South Korean official's say he's fine. It might be like @RodgerDodger says, Dear Leader is not a well man, roughly recalling the Brezhnev-Chenernko-Andropov years of the early eighties when the protracted illness and death of Soviet General Secretaries was standard fare for news. Maybe no Best Korea waifu Dictatoress yet.

There was a line in "The Americans" where one Russian spy complains that the US is not like the soviet union, if the president is dead the people will find our straight away and not weeks later.

For what it’s worth, Kim Jong-il often used these absences to his favor and was usually followed with a purge. Coronavirus is likely ravaging Best Korea and Jong-un is likely going to make some heads roll because of it or at least use it as an excuse.

I also don’t get where people think his creepy sister is in a position to assume power when she spent most of the last several years purged politically. That’s how they treated the older brother because he wanted to go to Disneyland and bang Malay hookers.

The fact that she is quite possibly even more bloodthirsty and dangerous than her brother speaks volumes. Her murdering him is/could be just the start of a horrible new era. She does seem like a Countess Bathory type. (I expect a middle aged era portrait with all the dark shading. That pic of Liz Bathory still gives me the heebie jeebies)

This one?

Would NK even allow a woman to be president? Doesn't seem likely.
Though we don't know much about North Korean society, the hereditary succession is obviously in favor of men. The closest the North Korean government has come to breaking the rules was when Kim Jong-il chose Kim Jong-un as his heir as opposed to his other sons. But that was just Kim Jong-il picking his youngest as opposed to his eldest. It doesn't help that Kim Jong-un has other male relatives he can pass the torch to.

The difference between the cult of personality surrounding FatBoy and NKAzula's grandpa and grandma are quite... interesting, so to say. Interestingly, when NKoreans tried to do the same with their mama, things were different since it seems she was born in Japan and that would make her "tainted" and shit. :story:

Increase in military drills and suchlike further to rumours of Fat Boy Kim's demise.

That implies to me that something's happened and they're gearing up in case of invasion by Worst Korea which they in their paranoia are terrified will happen, or, more likely, if he is dead, to secure the succession against a power struggle. But he hasn't named an heir so far as we know.
I'm just surprised they have enough fuel to run "air force drills."
I believe the word you're looking for is 'Dictatrix'.
Apparently, dictatress is the more common usage, , though both are used.. Dictatrix predated dictatress, but is less commonly used and is considered equivalent but archaic.

Everything we know about North Korea says a female succession to their fucked up monarchy is impossible. But we dont know how pragmatic the ruling power structure is vs. How much they buy in to the cult of personality. The pragmatic solution, especially considering how hard Jong Un murdered or discredited his immediate male family means a female succession is the only logical choice.

On the other hand, how many women do you see in those pictures of senior officials, military commanders and party cadre.

none

And I just want to point out we are obsessing over the monarchical succession of a shit hole that if put up in a war without nukes against a single US state, not even one of the Big Ones. Let's say North Korea vs. Tennessee, would get its shit pushed in within months.

If the Kims are just figureheads, then keeping it in the Kim family is the most important thing. And it makes sense from an ideological angle too; as while yes all the top jobs in the military are filled by men, there are women in the Nork military because muh commie equality. They're not soldiers but they exist and likely serve functional roles. To have a woman as the Head of State might be phrased in similar ways. "Mother of our nation", "nurturer of our nation's future". Bold new direction crap.
I would not dismiss it out of hand. There is no offical rule against it, just the opposite.
