You'd think they would give the amputee a bionic arm but according to tumblr/SJW artists they don't exist, Are tumblr/SJW artists artists organic puritans or something? whenever I see then try to do diverse art and include an amputee the amputee always either has the crudest replacements limb possible or nothing at all. Bionics are getting pretty advanced yet you hear nothing about it heck they are working on bionic limbs that can actually feel now.

probably because drawing a character with a stump arm makes it look ~more disabled~

or bionic arms are too hard for them to draw. idk.

Maybe they think getting a bionic arm is over coming your disability, and Tumblr can't have that. You must always be disabled at all time and never try to over come it. If you did you'd have no personality, because people are only defined by their disability or their sexuality.

I think the idea is to have the character look "comfortable" with who they are in a casual situation like that. Particularly for present-day characters, arm prosthetics (and it's usually arms, leg amputees are less common in SJW art) just aren't quite there yet.

Either way, the focus on the stumps is weird, particularly since so many of them have very lovingly-rendered semi-realistic and jagged scars while the rest of the character looks like something out of Steven Universe.

That, or they have an amputee fetish.

That's the problem with SJW art is that it's entirely performative. They don't really care about aspies, amputees, gay people, black people, all they care about is raking in attention from the IDPOL crowd. If you call them out for being shallow and performative, you get attacked. They have to play up like they genuinely care about whatever it is they're drawing, whether or not they actually do. If you call them out on it, you threaten their status (and thereby, their woke points and "validity," or their right to not be completely ignored and shunned by people they deem important.)

They can then accuse you, in turn, of hating whatever subgroup is being represented in their art, which takes away your own woke points. It's like a weird kind of prisoner's game where you can call them out, they can call you out, you can both get into a shitfight, or nobody says anything. Basically doing anything puts you at a disadvantage.

I can see two reasons for that. The first is that you can't be "Downs and proud". While some are higher-functioning than others, it's an actual genetic defect and not a spectrum like autism. You can't pretend to have Down syndrome and still wield the usual SJW snark against the "normies". I mean... you could, but it would be very easy to get called out for it. As such, it's not a very vocal group by definition and since SJW is all about the squeaky wheel getting the oil, they don't get any attention.

The second (and probably the most important) reason is that most SJW art is highly stylized and Down syndrome's very characteristic facial features wouldn't translate well into it. Basically, anyone drawing someone with Down syndrome in the usual styles would open themselves up to being accused of mocking Asians or certain groups of Native Americans and Polynesians. Any group that's stereotyped as having broad faces and slanted eyes, really. So they don't even risk it. It's better to be accused of neclecting a non-neuronormative group than to be accused of outright racism.

true. autism is the most common for people to latch onto as a replacement for a personality. it's much more common as a headcanon in fandom as well. i see so many headcanons and fanart that depict characters with autism, same with any personality disorder. i think the reason for this is because it's so easy to lie and say you have autism (or self diagnose, whatever you want to call it) whereas with down syndrome, they have distinct facial features, so it's obvious to tell when someone does or doesn't have autism.

i guarantee that if down syndrome didn't come with a unique appearance, many people would claim to have it as well so they could get those sweet oppression points on their online bios
