For those speculating the game was delayed to change the story, I doubt that. With a film, it's easy to reshoot scenes and drop them into Final Cut. With a game it's much more difficult. Not only do you have to record the voice work, you have to make new animations, test the game, and maybe redesign levels.
Games that had last minute rewrites included Destiny, which had over a year to re-edit the story and it wasn't until the sequel that the content shown in the trailers was finally in the game, and Mass Effect 3 which needs no explanation. I don't see Sony making serious changes to the story in 3 months. Maybe cutting a scene or changing some dialogue, but nothing more than that.
More likely is what another person said earlier in the thread. COVID shut down the factories manufacturing the discs and they don't know when they'll be ready. The same has happened to the PC Engine mini.
I think now is a good time. Do you think that the game will do well critically? What do you predict the Metascore to be?
Hard to say. I think critics will like the game if Sony starts handing out the payola or game journos stick with the "entitle gamergate" narrative, or it will get a mixed reaction with people liking or hating the LGBT+ themes.
Why do I get the feeling wokeness will be to the 2010s-2020s what edginess was to the 90s-2000s only cringier and even more dated?
I think it will be seen as more of a 2010s thing, but I agree. Hipsters fashion will even be seen like tie die is to hippies.
The last ten years have been like a genocide, but for IP's. What I don't get is why they keep handing the reins to people intent on poisoning one multimillion dollar franchise after another. Seriously asking, how does this keep happening? Has the rot set in too deeply?
I think companies have learned their lesson on that and what we're seeing now is the tail end of that trend. As for why they kept doing it. Greed and naivety. Greed because they were told fans will buy dog shit in a bag if it has a big name licence on it but going woke will make women and minorities buy it, and naivety because some genuinely believe in the cause.
When it doesn't work, there's always an excuse why it didn't work. "It was gamergate!", "It was the alt-right!", "We didn't go woke enough!". Naughty Dog can blame the failure of TLOU2 on the leaks and Covid.

Sherry at least made sense. It had been 10-15 years since we saw her last I think. I never understood those people who complain every time any of the Harry Potter cast are shown doing anything adult like drinking, smoking, or are in a film with a sex scene. Harry Potter was 20 years ago, the actors in those films aren't kids any more.
I skimmed through the script, and I actually liked the idea of a story perspective from a family member / friend of one of the hundreds/thousands of people you kill along the way in one of these games. So its not just like borderlands where there's endless empty mooks.
That idea was stupid and old hat by the time

Pretty sure Bethesda blacklisted them over that Fallout 4 leak though. Wish more companies would do that to journalists leaking stuff.
