The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

You know what gets me about the whole "cycle of revenge" shit? It's got nothing to do with the themes of the first game. The first game was about surviving and finding all that's good in a world that's gone dark. The game was dark, but it was offset by moments of levity between Joel and Ellie and the game saw their relationship go from cynical and standoffish to something almost familial. What does revenge have to do with any of that other than to snuff out the concepts the previous game presented?

If it's to subvert or undo those themes, there are way better ways of going about that that don't involve shitting all over everything. The Ultima series is a good example of this. Ultima IV hinged on the eight virtues and your character's quest to become the embodiment of those virtues to become the Avatar. Then V comes around and showcases a darker side of it, when virtue isn't a choice but is mandated by law, and VI shows that for all your good deeds you still hurt some people in your quest to become a force of good. But you know what Ultima didn't do? It didn't destroy the meaning of the virtues. Even when the games explore how those virtues can be used against you, those same virtues are also what enable you to triumph over evil. If anything, V and VI added dimension and gray morality to a previously black-and-white system of ethics, which in turn expanded Ultima's themes.

This though? This is just taking what was there in the previous games and stomping all over it just to say, "hurr durr revenge is bad" even when revenge had jack shit to do with it. It doesn't add nuance or expand on anything, it just undoes everything the previous game built towards in an effort to be "intelligent." It's a fucking disgrace.

It's a reflection of 2013 versus 2020.

In 2013 most people still had some goodness in their hearts, these last 7 years have sucked a lot of that out and a lot of people are full on evil now.

It's actually kind of eerie that in The Last of Us 2013 was supposed to be the year of the start of a dystopian situation for the world and in a way the game was right.

I don't know if ND will ever recover from this. This has got to go down as the biggest slap in the face in gaming in like the last 10 years. DLC content used to fill story gaps for this game will probably make it two times as worse if they choose to do so.
The HBO series is supposed to fill in gaps between the two games. Why watch a series knowing that Joel, the protagonist, is dead in the game?

Where's that meme where it's a black and white sequence and I think it's Alfred Hitchcok talking to another person about "Realism is the Death of Art and Creativity" because TLOU2 is Exhibit A for showing this. Druckman wanted everything real, and he got what he asked for, it didn't turn out the way he thought though.

I gotchu fam

I honestly don't know how he thought this was a good idea at all. I'm sure nobody could talk to this faggot because he went "I'm the CEO. DEAL. I AM AN ARTISTIC GENIUS".

MGS 2 switched protags on you and it wasn't spiteful and just simply a matter of the story. Plus we got Revengence out of that. What do you get out of this? Some pointless, boring, unoriginal bullshit that disgraces the first game and its audience. You can't fix this. The only way this is fixed is that they release an entirely new sequel and this one is in an 'alternate timeline'.

The funniest thing has been people who were bragging about avoiding spoilers only for others to find a workaround and spoil it for them.

That subreddit is begging to get its members spoiled.
waiting for someone to legit pay for ad space to spoil people on train stations and shit

Yes HBO because that worked out so well for Watchme.... Ohhhh

I was watching some clips from the first game earlier today and this one in particular stung. Seeing Joel comfort Ellie after all the hell she went through, I couldn't help but think "In five years, he'll be murdered and that poor baby girl's gonna get brutalized, and we have to watch."

I think I'm just gonna pretend the second one never existed.

MGS2 switching protagonists also didn't shit on Snake. People may not have liked playing as Raiden, but the game had Snake sneaking around, helping Raiden or providing information, then ultimately Snake and Raiden team up, and the game ends with Snake alive and well. That's more or less the polar opposite of what TLOU2 is apparently doing. What TLOU2 is doing is roughly the equivalent of having Raiden casually kill Snake, then hunt down Meryl and Otacon to beat them within an inch of their life and leave them for dead.

Heh, seeing all this drama TLOU 2 has generated almost makes me want to give the first one another shot. I was never a fan of it, I considered it to be the harbinger of trends in video games I'm not fond of, but seeing this clip against all the horrid shit the sequel is trying to pull makes me realize that it could always be worse. Hell, maybe I might see something I didn't the first time.

Lol. The Last Of Us subreddit quarentined themselves and gave instructions on how to turn off messaging and DMs over the leaks and how people were saying the game was going to suck. Thin-skinned bitches.
Retarded paypigs willing to take the dick flattening, or ND corporate having control over it? Either way, they're fucked regardless and their efforts just redouble the rage.

Also seriously, why defend Druckmann? The hack is a guro loving lesbian fetishist who kicked a woman out of the industry and singlehandedly demolished two franchises out of ego. He's the type of parasitic faggot that so-called SJWs should lynch before a pyre and corporate should render destitute via firing and blacklisting.

They really should just kill the game and redo it from scratch. They'd make more that way.

Man, I'm late to this party, was busy shitposting on /v/ for the past week.

Probably a cold take already, but Naughty Dog is in deep shit when the employment fucking is going to keep rearing it's ugly head. Druckmann really is a fucking retard.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I hope this leads to a reappraisal of the first game and more gamers coming around to it.

Resident Evil Outbreak (which deserves a remake) had this. You are running through a Zoo with mutant animals everywhere.

RIP Oscar the Elephant

But nope. Mutant zoo animals would be unique and interesting. Can't have that. Remember - no fun allowed.
But there's still a chance that mutant zoo animals DID happen in TLoU2 and just weren't included in the spoilers, right? ...right, guys?

This might be a controversal opinion, but Zero was garbage. "Giant rabid animals" is the plot of Night of the Lepus, not a proper RE game.

However, a fungus infected elephant is badass.

I agree completely. Its completely fucking idiotic, wrongheaded. It shows spite and disrespect to your audience. I also haven't quite understood this trend of 'fuck my audience lol'. Its exceedingly incompetent and is never, ever well written. Almost always done by idiots who think they're better than they are.

I can answer this one, and the reason isn't quite as insane as you might suspect. It is much more common in other media than it is in gaming, but the reasons and ways it goes down is, fundamentally, similar enough.

It all starts because of a power vaccuum, usually caused by someone dying, retiring, or leaving a given company. More rarely, it can happen due to outside agitation. Regardless of the origins of the vaccuum, an opportunistic shithead gets into a position of authority, either through veterancy at the company, ties to its corporate culture, or simply being friends with the right people. Either way, they've landed into a position of authority, except with one critical failing: They fundamentally do not understand the property they've been put in charge of, and more critically, don't care that they don't understand about the property. They care only that the property has a landed audience and that this audience means that their personal message can reach as big a non-voluntary crowd as it possibly can. It is effectively a chance for them to virtue signal loud enough that no one can ignore it. This is the only part of this they care about. Towards that end, when works created by these clowns succeed, it is in spite of the pandering, not because of it, and usually the result of vastly more talented people within the machine, who will never get the credit they deserve. They freely will then appoint staffers not based on competence or experience, but on how much they will kiss ass and uphold the party line, so the team quickly gets bogged down with loons who don't understand how to do their jobs.

The fact that the fans are not the woke Twitter crowd who will blindly lap up every bit of Autism thrown their way and declare it the most groundbreaking thing ever is why they hate the fanbase. The fanbase is not willing to cheer on the virtue signal, and ergo, is lower than shit in their eyes, unable to see the brilliance of the message. Needless to say companies with a branch dominated by this sort of idiocy bleed fan goodwill dry in short order and will bitch endlessly about fan entitlement over the fans complaining about them fucking up the property. After all, to these people, narrative is all that matters, and if you won't conform, you are dead to them.

If it's bad for fans, it's barely livable for those at the company who don't believe in this political autism. The regime is fierce about dirving off or oppressing any viewpoint that even tangentially differs from them, effectively acting in real life as they do on Twitter. Surprising exactly no one, this does nothing to help the work environment and leads to a bleed of talent, as quality staffers are either driven off or willingly leave. While sometimes you can get the rare rolled double six that knows good design and is a dyed-in-the-wool Progressive, most in the time those are mutually exclusive because of their all-consuming need for affirmation. Most chillingly, if the choice comes between the massive virtue signal and crashing the company with no survivors, the virtue signal will win every single time. They don't care about the work being profitable, they care about broadcasting to the maximum number of people, and literally nothing else.

The interesting part is that normally, it's not the corporate level maintaining this shit; corporations often move at a glacial pace internally unless they're particularly efficient, they are often very slow to react, especially if the company is particularly large. Very often, the company this shit is happening at has no idea what's actually going on behind closed doors until shit goes thermonuclear. It's only at this point that corporate will get involved to get control of shit, but it very well may be too late. Moreover, the branches pulling this shit at a given company often go to extravagant degrees to cover up their activities, so often the first clue that shit's going wrong is when the company eats a major publicity gaffe or an even more major economic loss. By this point even if it's caught early, corporate may be in no position to mitigate it; they pumped resources and time into a project that they either can release and see some profit from or put it into stasis or start from scratch on. Either way, the corporation is too late and ill-equipped to do anything but mitigate the loss as best it can.

Whether you're talking about Disney-Lucasfilm, Bioware, the BBC, Naughty Dog, or Marvel, you're looking at the exact same pattern, playing out in the exact same way. The good news is that over time, this shit will crush and break itself as people like this keep plowing their careers off the proverbial precipice in their perennial need to show everyone how woke they are.

Yeah this is why Druckmann's attempt at creating "moral relativism" with TLOU2 falls flat on its head. While googling to find out if Naughty Dawg ever conceded that TLOU is their version of "The Road" I came across this little comment which now is a clear harbinger of things to follow.
cuckmann.JPG

First off what a cuck this interviewer is, and Druckmann isn't much better. I hope Druckmann's daughter never bothers to read everything her father says because the answer from him should have been "YEAH I'D KILL A PLATOON TO SAVE MY INNOCENT DAUGHTER OR DIE TRYING!" Because that's what a father/guardian is biologically built for, not to be a sniveling coward and wonder what happens if he does what's necessary to protect the people he loves. These people must see the "Taken" movies and feel bad for the people Liam Neeson kills.

At the start of the game Joel is left broken after he couldn't save his daughter from the end of the world. He goes into this new "Lawless West" style society not as a farmer or a builder but as a dangerous smuggler, because while he isn't dead enough inside to just commit suicide the character is clearly hoping that one day during a gunfight he'll get hit and be reunited with the child he loves. Then he's tasked with a new mission, smuggle a young girl across country. The journey is miserable and that results in Joel and Ellie bonding together. At the well executed end the character is presented with a false dilemma as even the game doesn't allow the player to just let Ellie die, either relive the worst moment of your life or save this kid you'd die for.

TLOU2 wants to now reframe things as Joel being evil for not letting a gang of terrorists break a girl's head open in the name of science. Money from every purchase of TLOU2 should go to the Amy Biehl Foundation of Moral Cuckoldry.

I wonder if these corporate magpies will realize they are also ensuring that this woke shit will never, ever get a foothold in those companies again... Sony is getting to experience it two fold with this and the Mignona thing, and if they don't think that Sony will come in hard and axe them, ESPECIALLY so close to the only actually profitable side of the company releasing their next major console....
