Sad and rough as it may sound, sometimes it really does take this kind of situation to make these people grasp the problems within their groups.
There are people in actual, literal cults that are down with all the godawful shit that happens to everyone else- because, you know, they deserve it, they must be sinners, they must be faltering in some way.
But when it's you getting called out when you know you didn't do anything wrong (or otherwise, not wrong enough to deserve a call-out), it really brings the problem upfront and center, because now it's you being shamed, you being harassed, you being ostracized. It's very easy to ignore a problem when it's not your problem, and it's very easy to believe that someone else is a sinner, especially if you're caught up in that cult-mentality of "believe the leader/go with the group", allowing others to lead your opinion instead of thinking independently.
As much as it sucks, it is exactly these sorts of situations that convince people to back out of the SJW culture on tumblr, or at least massively reduce their presence in it. Sometimes people have to learn the hard way that engaging in these sorts of groups are psychologically, emotionally, and socially damaging.

TL;DR: Shippers redefining words with heavy implications, such as "abuse" and "pedophilia", to use as an excuse to harass people who like fictional couples that they don't. This has somewhat extended to harassing anyone they consider "problematic" for absolutely any reason at all.

Imagine you like a controversial ship in an X form of media. Say, idk, incest. If, for example, you wrote fanfic of said pairing, as long as you tag it properly and don't hit people over the head with it, it's fine, right?
Not to these people. To them you have to not share your fic/art/etc because 'fiction affects reality' and 'there are minors on the internet', but honestly you shouldn't have to parent anyone on the internet??
If there's someone whose writing is a way to cope with trauma they're 'retraumatizing themselves'.
Not to mention that if there's a couple who are a couple years apart its 'age gap' and 'pedophilia'. They equate lewd drawings of fictional characters with actual cp. They don't want anything sexual going on in the internet ever.

Oh, I think I came across one of these people. A friend had some Miraculous Ladybug fanart and somebody ree'd at them about how the ship "Adrinette (Marinette X Adrian)" is pedophilia. I have no fucking clue how since those characters are the same age as one another and the fanart wasn't lewd. The sperg, however, refused to elaborate and just went on a crusade of annoyance until my friend took the art down.
I get being concerned if someone actually writes about a toddler getting raped or something (I'd wonder about the author too, depending on context), but I see the most absurd things get declared "pedophilia" in fanfiction communities.

No, not quite. I don't really involve myself in Tumblr circles anymore so I don't know the current situation, but back when Voltron was still airing these clowns shit their pants over Shiro/Keith for being "pedophilia" because there was a slight age gap (Keith was like 18 or something, maybe even older idk, while Shiro was 25). Later on, they tried saying that it was also "incest" because one of them said "You're like a brother to me," and "racist" because, get this, they're both Asian. Really, it was all because they shipped Keith/Lance and got pissy whenever they saw those characters being shipped with anyone else.
