Usually because most of the refugees are either A: Autistic weebs who think they actually have the chance to be ~real professhionul mangakas~ by posting there or B: Porn artists as many other art-sharing websites aren't as lax as Pixiv when it comes to graphic content. Shit that can get you IP-banned on one page (in this case DA) is pretty much usually looked over on Pixiv. I mean nips honestly don't give a shit LOL.

Pixiv is the bedpan of the internet. Not a single search on the website is safe, since you have to simp for the platform if you don't want to sort by new. Unless you have a link to a titty within two degrees of separation from what you're looking for (so that what you want is in related posts), venturing there is never safe, as any and all searches are bound to bombard you with the pits.

I pity the fools who have fetishes so niche that most of the art they'd want appears only on this website.

Yeah most of the communication is usually restricted to comments. They used to have comments on the user page but it doesn't exist anymore.

For the most part, you can filter out porn. Weird shit that skates around the R-18 tag is trickier, I'll admit.

It's one of them 2chan catmen farting in another's face.

I can't be bothered to look it up but it's probably based on some traditional Japanese woodblock as there were tons depicting people farting on each-other.

Japanese make weird stuff. I think it's the oldest maxim I have heard on the Internet.
While furries, weebs etc. are legion in the west (and they share the same monoculture) I think a really messed up Otaku could still beat them in being messed up and weird.

I can imagine it annoyed the Japs on the site that foreign artists go on their site and spam their on stuff. Wasn't there some low key drama that people just re-uploaded pixiv art on Tumblr without giving credit?

There's art groups on Pixiv where you can post like it's a Twitter timeline, though because of the language barrier we'll never get to see the true tism that goes down. Though sometimes you get some pretty funny English posts.

From the FutaMinor group, beware futa lolis

One group I remember is the K-Cup Breast and beyond group, there's a weird mix of 3dcg western art and bad anatomy eastern art. It is a sight to behold. Only this group can achieve that unholy balance.
Also on a slightly related note, a lot of the English users on Pixiv seem to be the 3dcg artists. There's a shit ton of groups for them where they post and tag things in English. At least the normal weeb refugees bother to tag shit in Japanese to blend in.

Seeing this thread reminded me of when I was more active in the Touken ranbu fandom. Short version: Touken ranbu is a multimedia franchise about the humanised prettyboy versions of famous swords and spears from japanese history.

There's this one artist I remember who goes by ka畜/Zuwaikani whose artwork is well drawn but some of her older Touken Ranbu stuff has some really depraved fetishes. For example:

She doesn't seem to draw Touken ranbu stuff these days and switched to Fate grand order and then Granblue fantasy.
