Diseased Shippers, Anti-Shippers, and Shipping Wars - When fictional characters fucking each other is a political statement

Oh yeah, I remember browsing /a/ when that chapter first dropped and the anons had a field day with screencapping tumblr and twitter salt. I never got into the anime or the manga so I had no horse in that race and I just looked at the meltdowns and laughed.
I was one of those people who firmly thought a "happy ending" just wasn't going to happen, so on that front I never really cared who fucked who - but the fujoshis who shipped main character Kaneki with his buddy Hide were absolutely nasty little vermin so I laughed a little more than I normally would seeing meltdowns.

Double post but wanted to share this special person who has ran in the same circles as me for several years.
She's obsessed with Final Fantasy VII - well, that's not true. She really only talks about a ship in Final Fantasy VII; Clerith. Which is fine, I guess. A little bit of a waste to reduce the game down to a romance but whatever, it happens. What makes this person special is they are obsessively in love with Clerith. To the point where, if the next part of the Remake comes out and they make Cloud/Tifa the only choice with no player interaction, I think she might honestly harm herself.

She's been posting since 2014 on Twitter and longer on Tumblr. She does often leave very aggressive comments on other people's Twitter but not the point of telling other people to kill themselves or anything like that. The worse I've seen is her telling people "get jobs" and stop hating on her ship, which is a little ironic because she hates Cloud/Tifa with the fury of a million suns. Overall, I find her, and other shippers like her a little sad. At this point this ship is part of her identity and she's far from the only one in the FFVII community to act this way.

Have a look if you want LINK
I just wanted to offer a look at a side of the militant shipping that from what I've seen has been neglected in this thread: the fucking tragic kind.

I thinking someone else also brought a similar but a different person and ship in this thread. I get maybe having comfort in shippings and characters you enjoy, but there are way to many people that take it to an unhealthy and obsessive level.

Too often people forget that their faves are just pixels on a screen.

Depends on what you mean by "tragic". Some people I guess are too mentally unstable to recognize fiction from fantasy, but there may also be those who're just unable to experience human love normally and so they latch onto fictional relationships as a way to live vicariously though it. I'd say that's tragic.

But when they start lashing out at people over their OTPs because the negativity is like they're being personally attacked themselves, the tragic elements fade away unless they're legitimately schizo. Although someone like PreciousLeaf being brought up in the Pokémon Lolcows thread isn't tragic because he's legitimately freaking out over people "attacking" or "hating" on his waifu, Leaf, and his outbursts are extensive enough he might actually harm someone IRL over it.

I see elements of that in that girl I posted, with the character Aerith. I think she's self-inserting into Aerith to be with Cloud.

Never heard about PreciousLeaf but I'll go look him up because I've always found hardcore Pokemon shippers extra deranged. I'm not sure what it is about that fandom, but the crazies tend to go hard.

He's not really a "shipper" crazy so much as "Leaf is my waifu but it's not sexual, but I'll eviscerate you for hating my waifu" psycho.

That's Sean and Daniel from life strange 2. Sean is 16 and Daniel is 9 years old btw.

Since we're talking about incest, i'll just bring a story about the obscure abomination that was Justin and Alex from Wizards of Waverly Place (old disney show). That ship was so extreme it was the ONLY media in TV tropes to have it's own "Incest Yay" page, that basically filed every interaction the brothers ever had and twisted it as romantic. The page be removed much later due to being considered fetish fuel.

That's right, it was so autistic even tv tropes had to cut it down because it was a straight up fetish. This is also the reason the incest yay page was changed to "Incest Yay shipping" instead, to make it sound less personal. Fun fact? After a few seasons, the show invented new love interestes for both alex and justin and they both got temporary lovers. It's almost like even the writers found out and tried to sink the ship but failed.

It took some works but actually found an archive of the the old incest yay page and the wizards incest page. Enjoy it i guess?

Because incest, homosexuality and rape are comparable. God, i love how this argument is used everytime they had to remove something to be more "family friendly". Tropers always say "but if my fetish is bad then what about that other argueably more offensive fetish tho?"

Batshit insane shipping aside, regardless the page was definitely made for fetish fuel.

it doesn’t actually follow the trope because as someone who seen the show there was no incestous implications between the two. Obviously, they were basically grasping for straws. Also Justin had a girlfriend which he ended up staying with.

Siblings: *hug once*
Incest shippers: Look at this lusty sexual tension, holy shit just fuck already!

I saw most of the show and was shocked to learn how popular the ship was. A quick glance on FFnet and AO3 shows over half the fics are incest romance and their canonical lovers pratically dont exist.

Have incest shippers ever tried to justify their fetish shit as being some brave LTBGBBQ+ representation? Would be funny to see that. *yawn*

I think i've seen at least one person say they shipped elsanna because "Elsa is lesbian and Disney needs a lgbt princess" lol.

The I in LGBTQIA stands for incest. /sneed

I've seen them try to argue that it's "gay/lesbian representation" on occasion when said incest ship is M/M or F/F. Considering that most people that are really into shipping are usually tumblr users, it's not surprising that the fujos want to spin it as something progressive.

God i remember seeing an anon in a Devil May Cry thread on /cm/, sperging about people shipping Vergil&Trish in stead of Vergil&Dante.(For those who don't know Dante and Vergil are twins.) They where basically saying that het is gross and gay incest is ok because they can't get pregnant and have kids.

Incest is relative.

Honestly am not sure if I was to post this back in the Fanfiction Horrors thread (I had brought it up there briefly not long ago), bring it just here or both, but I think something's about to go down, or at least there was a brief dog pile last night on someone's actual stupid comment in relation to this fic. I waited for a twelve-hour period before deciding to post this in the off-chance more reviews showed up, but not yet. (Guest reviews can be manually moderated and after 36 hours of nothing they'll show up by themselves, but I don't think the author has that enabled.)

Brief context, this is an on-going series of Godzilla fics (Monsterverse, so Godzilla and Mothra are basically portrayed as royalty) involving the slow build up to Mothra having an affair with Rodan and the consequences that came from it. The drama's actually well-paced and the love triangle actually has really sweet moments between the characters, but the stories have brought along some strange readers who are really goddamned thirsty for some kaiju smut, and there's some spicy drama going on in the review sections. It's starting to get to the point where I think we're about to get some public/other social media slapfights between Godzilla/Mothra and Rodan/Mothra stemming from these stories since the moments where the author brings in any trace of the "forbidden love" that is Rodan/Mothra brings about some ire, and she's aware of it. Some previous one-shots have gotten some people kinda pissy over it because they think she's pulling their leg about where her "loyalties" lie and stuff, or even arguing with each other over who Mothra loves more passionately over the affair. It's honestly amusing how hung-up they are on kaiju sex, but it's weird they're having these slapfights through guest reviews if only because I don't know where these people are coming from and so I guess they can't find each other to take this to PMs.

Anyway, this recent comment happened. TikTokRockSock here is talking about and agreeing with how Rodan in the beginning of the two-shot angrily spilled the beans and showed his dissatisfaction that even though he was Mothra's "first", she couldn't choose him over Godzilla (who she is basically married--in human terms--to), and I'm (trying hard not to) waiting with bated breath and a bowl of popcorn on if the gauntlet's been thrown down and we'll get another scuffle over this if this person replies again. I'll keep you posted if anything comes up. (Edited it to be top to bottom, one comment has blurs just to pull out the relevant comments.)

Okay, we got something of an update on the kaiju fic drama. TikTokRockSock hasn't shown back up again, but the thing is about these review sections is stuff will spark up, but they fizzle out pretty fast like someone trying to light up the campfire. Something hasn't flared back up enough to be blown into a more permanent flame, but these readers continue to play with the embers, so sooner or later someone's gonna be burned and a flame war's gonna turn into a brushfire. I dunno, maybe the quarantining has just driven people mad or something, but I think it was always going to turn out this way regardless.

So with that said, a couple of (registered, not guest) users gave their unhelpful input about the growing shipping war in these review sections. The first comes from the user Shadowblade217 (who I've noticed has an archived screenshot of his FFN profile from a couple years back 🤔, that's odd), who looks to be a loyal reader who's been following these stories since the beginning (or at least showed himself when the second story finished), and he's a Mothzilla shipper for sure, he hates Rodan. He liked him before, but then the second story happened and he didn't like how much of a womanizer he "became" (because he wasn't paying attention), and would make that clear in his reviews and it snowballed from there. He otherwise does a fine job reviewing her stories, but he takes the time out to shit on Rodan's character whenever he can (who's chaos incarnate btw, he's not a morally good character to begin with). As stated in his first review:
Screen shot 2020-05-01 at 12.52.28 PM.png

>RODAN R*PED MOTHRA GURL, THAT BAD (fic here is "T" btw, had to cut away from the scene for DRAMA)
>retracts R*PE statement when the later extended scene shows Mothra actually rolled with it
>still whines about "reverse character development"
Screen shot 2020-05-01 at 1.04.06 PM.png

There's other whiny blocky reviews like this scattered throughout the stories' review sections if you have the time/patience to dig for them, but these were the "firsts", so they stand out more. Although in an accompanying one-shot that follows other side characters where Rodan just happens to show up in a supporting role, he still had to whine about him:
Screen shot 2020-05-01 at 1.27.53 PM.png

Like we get it, you hate the fire demon turkey. (I hope this has affected how he watches the movie, it just sounds hilarious.)

Oh yeah, if you didn't already guess from the moralizing tirade, the dude also has a Twitter where he's currently reblogging and shitting on Reylos at the moment. So that should tell you something. Also pronouns in bio!

Pick one.

Okay, with that bit of contextual backstory out of the way, pull out your popcorn *pulls out a tub* or a drink, and let's see what he had to say about this current story--or more likely, what does he have to say about the current ship war situation?
Screen shot 2020-05-01 at 12.05.23 PM.png

TL;DR: "STOP HAVING FUN AND GIVING RODAN LAYERS--I don't hate this story btw but STOP WRITING THIS CRAP, the toxicity and multishipping is disrupting my Mothzilla mojo but it makes my hateboner harder!"

Next up is a non-writer FrostyTeddyBear5 who only joined FFN most likely to follow these stories, they otherwise have nothing else of note except to let visitors know on their profile they might have a crude non-PC humor and "Yeah, I guess I have Asperger's or something like that." So there's that. It's notable before I show their recent review that in their first review on a one-shot, they just had to bring up their "concern" about the ship war. Because that's the impression you want to leave. (Blurred out the beginning parts because it's not important.)
Screen shot 2020-05-01 at 1.12.06 PM.png

They probably left other reviews, but the one story has over a 100 pages of reviews and it's too bad you can't search user reviews to make it less of a hassle.

So lately they leave a review to the latest story, but then deviate to address the ship war going on, and just... oh boy.

>I swear RodanxMothra fans are the Reylo's of this saga (:story:)
>pandering

I'm honestly wondering if the author's been doing this on purpose, although she doesn't come off as that kind of person so this might just be something she's being dragged into. Yes, she's saying "Guys, be tolerant of each other's opinions" and doesn't address specific things out-right, but if these two are "noticing a pattern", then that "pattern" must be that she enjoys stirring the pot, or at least it just always goes like this:

>author has made it clear she loves forbidden romances
>writes more forbidden romance stuff
>readers continue REE'ing at the forbidden romance angle

That's what I'm getting at from these two's statements who I think secretly want her to stop writing how she's writing these characters because they're literally missing the goddamn point of the entire theme she's been going for. I hope she continues to do her thing that she wants to do as I do enjoy reading these stories, but the review sections are just *chef's kiss* a beautiful disaster.

Expect more updates to come at the rate this is going.

Is this actual kaiju sex, or humanized/anthropomorphic sex?

Because he first would be horrifiying. The dynamics for a 40 meter pterodactyl mating with a moth is so disgusting, while the latter would be less so, but still horrifiying.

Hahaha the former. The author's self-aware about it and tells stories of her husband (lovingly) teasing her about writing Godzilla porn. Honestly, anthropomorphic kaiju freak me out (though I've seen some interesting designs on Tumblr), but even though it's not a human!kaiju series, it's still weird for these readers to be so fixated on kaiju sex that they bring it up a lot when it's only shown in its entiretyyyyy I want to say 10-15% of the entire story, foreplay included. It's pretty scant for a mainly-M-rated series.

Really, it's just sad for people to get into fights over fan fiction. I'd actually see this happen in Pokémon from time to time, and of course A:TLA is infamous for fan fiction ship wars, but I never thought I'd see it in the kaiju fandom. It makes me disappointed in humanity, but I can't stop looking, I find it strangely entertaining.

I’ve met those type of people before and they disgust me. One of them was a incest-loving, gay, nudist pedophile with an ego.

Came across the college fan musical parody, Pokémon: The Mew-sical, which was a fun watch, good to kill time. But just imagine getting your shipping kicks out of it because your childhood OTP "finally" kissed.

Did A Very Potter Musical have shippers crying like this as well?
