There does seem to be a mix of 1 and 5 star reviews mostly. 1 stars have more people agreeing than the 5 stars. Onision's reaction to it all should show any potential readers how he feels about criticism.

Yeah, but the 5 stars are from his fans, and their reviews don't match the rating. If you look at some of the 5 star reviews, they're like "I'm a huge fan, but.... ... great for a first novel!" and stuff. They're rating it higher so he won't get mad at him. There's a post on it, I'll see if I can find it.

Either way, anyone who legit liked the book wont for much longer with the way that he's acting.

I honestly think the a-log rating shouldn't apply to him, as he's literally incapable of being a-logged. He does this shit expecting negative backlash so he can retort and prove his 'superiority'. It's really gross. And his wife (the 20 year old) edited the book for him. He didn't get a real editor, so that may be why his book sucks so fucking hard. Besides, y'know, the fact that he boasts about 'not having read a book since high school'

Not to steal The Knife's thunder, but I'm strongly tempted to buy this book and do an oral reading for you all, just so we can rejoice in the glorious badness of it. After all, what could be more entertaining than the semi-autobigraphical rantings of a guy who is sick enough to film his girlfriend having an amnesiac seizure (possibly either a stroke or an overdose) instead of calling 911?

How about it? Anyone interested in hearing some painful "literature" (and I use that word in a sense not usually applied to it)?

EDIT: Actually the response to this five star review seems to sum up Onision's writing and lifestyle in four succinct words:

It was a really awesome book. Yes there were a few grammar issues but the author was also the editor so that is to be expected. Beyond that it is a very entertaining book, I read it all in a day. It is sad so be warned although it is heart touching and romantic. It does seem like a young adult book because it's about teenagers and their life.

I've listened to the first chapter. A youtuber put up a reading of it but I'm hesitant to link it since she uploaded it as unlisted.
The main character is just a teenage version of Onision himself. He's just jerking himself off with self-insert fanfiction about his own life. Chapter 1 consists of pretty much nothing but the main character James staring at his classmates and judging them by their looks. Here is a quote for you "I took favor of categorizing most everyone around me. The socially inept know-it-all, the dumb attention-seeking drama kid and the bleach blonde bimbo who gets overly defensive at the slightest bit of criticism."
It's just Onision's smarmy internal dialogue- THE BOOK. And holy shit, the defensive at criticism part? Pot, meet kettle.
And to top it off he describes James as "casual and dorky"

oddly enough i recently started digging into onision because of his and someguy827's internet fight (thought someguy might be worth a thread here). anyway, apparently the book gets really fucked up, like child abuse, gang-rape, school shooting, forced miscarriage levels of fucked up. at least that's the according to someguy's review of it.

I don't have a Kindle, I have a Nook so I had to order the paperback book to read for you all. It's only 5.99 and I have credit on my account so no pproblem.

Besides, I want to have the joy of burning it when I'm finished.
