Musicians too. Future Doom games will absolutely suffer without Mick Gordon.
art direction also. I have a personal theory that this is why media has been degenerating into photo realism. actual creative vision is as rare as good writing. like 1 example

This ride has been absolutely fantastic and the leaker is a based motherfucker. So much bullshit in this plot that you could shovel it into Cuckmann's bug pod.

Musicians too. Future Doom games will absolutely suffer without Mick Gordon.

But Mick Gordon will get other work if they foolishly cut him. If you want a difference in music, look at Rome: Total War and Rome: Total War 2. One of these has Jeff Van Dyk. The other does not.

I can only hope that Mick Gordon returns for a hypothetical Killer Instinct sequel. Everyone sucks his dick for the Doom sountracks but the KI soundtrack is his true magnum opus.

The success of the Myst series played a large part in how photorealism took off.

Big games started using it, and thus spawned thousands of lazy imitations. Within a few years after Riven, I remember the market became glutted with Myst ripoffs & hidden-object games. But they all lacked the surreal depth, which made those worlds more fantastic than real. It was riding the bleeding edge of an uncanny valley experience which made the visuals so stunning, in my opinion.

Gameplay is easy to do right, if you have a moderately experienced developing team.
Writing and composing are the difficult things that can make or break a game, and all too often financiers ignore it in favor of shiny new features and tricks.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the game releases with Andromeda levels of glitching just to add even more insult to injury.
Hell, I bet some of those game testers left some obvious glitches in the game out of spite for all the shit they were put through during development. If that happens, the memes will be even more glorious.

News stating the leaks are related to the hacker

Basically he reads part of Jason's work (Jason himself has not seen the leaks, but states it's an old build, which we know is true)

He also reads a thread by someone on twitter (PixelButts) who makes a more compelling argument that it was indeed some form of security vulnerability. But even he questions PixelButt's claims. I don't know much about how game developers store their code and how the security vulnerabilites work, just found it interesting

I have never had a Sony phone myself. I remember they were first to have a "4K" phone but it was only 4K in that it could play 4K media in its native resolution; the rest of the time it was downscaled to 1080p.

Also their professional-grade headphones are meant to be really nice.
Their sensors for camera phones are the ones that sell. basically 95% of all smartphones being sold have sony sensors. but their own phones are too expensive for their range. like they are selling a mid-range phone at high-end price.

But yeah, what is keeping them afloat is the Insurance, PS, and FGO doing the heavy lifting

I think they people who think this will be profitable are underestimating how expensive AAA gaming development is. And this game was in development for, what, 7 years?

Sony probably wasn't counting on going into the black on this game on its initial release, before spoilers. Or, at least, not enough to justify all the money spent on it. Possible DLC, a full priced PS5 rerelease a yearish later, DLC bundled GotY edition on both consoles, and then a remastered first game bundled with the GotY edition a few years down the line.

I'm sure Sony was counting on this game having legs. I'd be shocked if all of that isn't built into it's profitablity, they planned on selling it to the fans as many times as possible.

This game tanking at release doesn't hurt the first sale, it cripples the future ones. They need to make as much money as they can on this initial sale cause they already knows it's going to be a loss.

Devil's Advocate: why not delay the game for a later PS5 exclusive?

I am kinda leaning on disgruntled employee or subcontractor.

I mean, do you honestly believe that a hacker would have taken the files. have the game engine run, have the necessary SDK to "playtest" it and record it? If the leaks were pre-rendered cutscenes I would believe it....

My guess is that it was meant to be the last great game for PS4 (similar to TLOU for PS3) and that it was going to get a remaster for PS5 to get even more sales. The delays were definitely not intentional and most likely caused by mostly unskilled people who had to fill the boots of those who left

I disagree. We've heard the "too big to fail" argument for lots of games from Battlefield 5 to Tomb Raider to Dead Space to Mass Effect. Only to be slapped down.

Get woke, go broke doesn't have a 100% success rate, but it's close. I don't agree with the One Angry Gamer definition of woke where every game has to star beefcake white male and his maxim model side kick, or that a game has to completely bomb to be considered a failure.

Even DSP sees through that nonsense.
I've only played the first Tomb Raider reboot, and I enjoyed it, but it never seemed "woke" to me.

They made a more grounded version of the character and coming off the previous decade of "realistic" heroes like Jason Bourne, Daniel Craig's Bond, or the Nolan Batman films it didn't seem out of place.

Maybe something happened in the other two games that I’m missing, but it wasn’t the cringy in your face blame whitey gibberish that Wolfenstein turned into.

I watched through those clips and I think what's breathtaking about it is how helpless the girls are and how well voice acted it is. It's literally some jacked dude bashing two women to death with hollywood quality sfx and professional voice acting that laments a tortured exasperation. This will be the Loss of 2020.

The twitter thread may make it sound plausible, but the build date in the video clearly speaks against it.

This. Also, if a Hacker gets access to a company like Naughty Dog, do you seriously believe that all they‘d do is spoil the game instead of gaining financial benefits out of it?
And considering they run with the story of „oh it’s a video of an old build“- absolute bullshit. Why would anybody film one and a half hours of gameplay, switching around chapters to crucial story specific moments and leave it on Naughty Dogs Server? If this really is the case, then my best bet would be a ND employee who went to some lengths to hide their tracks.

Be honest, you'd like to be motion-captured as the hapless girls in that situation.

It's probably numerous leaks. Some sub-contractors as well as employee(s), who were all fed up with Naughty Dog and released the most critical data to make sure it all goes to shit.
