Inactive Byuu / byuu_nyan / setsunakun0 / Near / David Ginder - "Non-binary" furry programmer who wrote a Super Nintendo emulator, tried to blackmail Null into removing his thread, and is probably actually dead lol

The N64 is notoriously hard to emulate.
Well see, there was a internal Nintendo leak the other day posted on 4chan (that was legit btw) which contained verilog files for literally every n64 component along with tons of other stuff that was assumed to have been lost to time, and there's been Twitter users debating on if anything will come from this. A lot of why the n64 was hard to emulate came down to the microcode issue, and apparently the n64 leak also contained stock microcode source code as well.

It's been hailed as a breakthrough for n64 emulation because verilog is literally the hardware version of having the source code.

Wait, Byuu is a gay, socialist, suicidal, furry troon?
From his choice of avatars, he's probably a pedophile too. Seriously hilarious that he's going to an hero over his lack of potential and aptitude in things that are the polar opposite of who he actually is and how his brain works. Lonely gross male nerd wants to be a beautiful female artist, and linguist - saddened that he can never be a woman, or even a decent looking trap, and horrified that his completely left-brain mind can barely draw stick figures... Solution? Seppuku! :story:

Any dev worth their salt won't use any of that. A number of devs even said they're not even looking at it. The moment a line of code is used from that leak, Nintendo will send a C&D to that project. A emulation project could get away with it if it was closed source, but N could probably sue to see the source code and whatnot. There's a rumor that Cemu is based on an older leak of Wii U stuff. IIRC, all of Byuu's projects are open source.

Emulation devs would not directly copy the leaked code but rather use it as an instruction manual to determine how the emulator should work. N64 emulator devs had already used the Oman leaks years before in the same way. While the legality of this is questionable, no N64 emulator has received a C&D because of it.

The N64 game decompilation developers who say they do not want to reference the leaked code, do so because they are aware that their claimed "clean-room" reverse engineering process will be violated, by accessing that code.

Pretty much this. Just like the Oman leaks, nobody is going to admit to using it. At the same time with all the rumors of how emulators like cemu were advanced through leaked documentation (and how many other emulators were in fact advanced this way), it'll probably happen.

Plus with how easily files are shared these days this leak is probably going to get spread much further than the Oman leak ever will.

Near apparently deleted his twitter and website. Ares-Emu github wiped too.

Does anyone know if Byuu/Near is alright?

I noticed today that they deleted pretty much every possible trace of themselves off the internet...I don’t know them and they don’t owe anything to us at this point, but just am hoping everything is OK

His last tweet did say something to the effect that he was done for the time being and wanted to spend the rest of his time in Japan not cooped up in his place, but him ending his twitter and everything else so quickly is a little surprising. Hopefully he is okay and enjoying himself, he deserves it.

I do know an ex-GG'er who wound up cleaning his act and weaning himself from their evil ideology and beliefs

random.txt material.

Gotta love being painted like villains actively harassing him when his thread went inactive once he presented his version of the story and then went back to code like normal. You can check the dates of the posts here. On top of that, we were respectful when he came here. It's easy to make a strawman out of people you don't like.

What's lunacy is to see people enabling this sort of behavior like it's okay to act like this for no goddamn reason. Even when he has no hate going around he relapses. So much for him stating that everything was going alright and things were looking up.

I understand being in the spotlight for as long as he has can be stressful and he much preferred when he was a nobody doing hobby coding. But at the same time, he gave himself more notoriety by promoting his accuracy as a be-all and end-all in emulation. Then one day he's writing articles for these news outlets. How did he not anticipate this? He also has the respect of his peers in his bubble, if he didn't because of his controversial past then I would maybe understand where he's coming from.

If he feels like quitting the emu scene he should just be clear about it. Otherwise it just feels like those people who suicide bait for attention. Very BPD-like behavior. My advice is: instead of surrounding yourself with enablers and sycophants who'll say any irrational behavior of yours is 'valid' (that's the delusional people cope - normalizing abhorrent conducts instead of working on self improvement) you should seek actual professional help and do some soul searching. Sugarcoated lies will never solve deep-rooted insecurities.

can anyone else vouch for me when i say that this thread was completely fucking locked down until today? i cant tell if my grip on reality is loosening even more or what but i genuinely thought it had been totally nuked

as an aside, the wayback machine actually does archive kf threads on occasion, who'da thunk

This is super autistic, but byuu cares about "accuracy".
Accurate to which version of the hardware? Different hardware revisions looked differently and sounded differently- also accurate does not always translate to playable. Lots of consoles had lockout chips for other regions, etc.

Fuck. Wish I could say I didn't see this coming.
I've been waiting 20 years for an N64 emulator not full of hacks.
When the next turbo autist comes along, can the farms please wait until after they finish their N64 emulator to make a thread on them?

Anyway news. His website is back up but empty. He's alive but quitting again. Seems more plausible this time because he nuked his $300 Patreon and all his online accounts and released his code under a basically public domain license.

It's been a pleasure, thank you all for everything.
Yes, I'll be fine. No, I won't be back. I gave all I could.
The work is what matters. Please continue it in my stead.

I know exactly what happened. CIA Nigger deleted his thread here a few weeks ago and got banned for doing it. Byuu clearly hates himself for having been an exceptional individual and probably finally thought he was getting a fresh start only to have his thread come right back, reopening the wound. It's been obvious since he came here in February how defeated he was by this thread. I tried to help via TTS but I guess it was too late, he's just too troubled. If he really can't handle any criticism, then he's making the right move leaving the internet.

How did he not anticipate this?

The same way he didn't anticipate coming out as a furry would have backlash. Autism.

Haze on Reddit said it best.
