The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Oh god, thanks for reminding me of Hamburger Helper herself. The same woman that wrote that exceptionally awful gay romance between Shepard and Cortez.
This is especially after MaleSheps VA didn't want to do gay stuff. I guess Mark Meer was pressured into it.

Wrong. It wasn't Meer. It was the actor who they used as the model for male!shep. The Spanish (?) guy. Hes the dumbass who didn't want it.

Btw Matthew Del Negro is a terrible actor. No wonder Steve sucked.

I will say this for Hepler, shitty as her actions were. I don't think she should have gotten legit death threats and harassment for Dragon Age. I say this because the brunt of the hate came from crazed Anders shippers and straight girls who were bitter they couldn't have their precious gay sexytimes and happy ending with him and Hawke. So your favorite character's an asshole. Oh well. The other writers are equally to blame for a shit product. Inquisition also had character derailment for most of the cast anyway but that's all due to losing the Origins crew.

However I think we all can agree that the Andromeda team is by far the worst game developers/writers/etc.

As I recall the reason there was no Femshep/Tali romance was that Talis va refused to do it because she was a muslim and it was thus against her religion to be involved in any girl on girl stuff. Although that could have been just something somebody made up during that epic "find any reason to shit on bioware and mass effect" period just after 3 released.

Anders did literally everything wrong.

Optimistic take tbh. There will always be a contrarian crowd for these sort of games. I have seen people who went "oh it can't be that bad" and "its dem gamergoy trolls again".

It'd have a solid first week, I guarantee you. It's the second week that'd be actual barometer whether or not normies like Druckmann's filth.

This game may do well initially, but the real test will be how it sells long term. The first few weeks or so tend to be a game's best selling period, but certain games have long "legs" that carry them into being evergreen titles that sell for years after their initial launch. Nintendo titles are famous for having titles that will continue to sell years after their release. Just recently, Nintendo revealed that they had 18 games that sold over 1 million copies just in this financial year, with some of those games still selling millions of copies years after release. The new Animal Crossing sold 13 million units in only a few weeks after it launched, beating out the lifetime sales of every other Animal Crossing game, and those games tend to be one of those slow burn sellers that sell over a long period of time, meaning that the new Animal Crossing will probably put up crazy numbers before its all said and done.

Sony wishes it had first party titles that sell like that, year in and year out; most of its first party titles never even touch the 10 million range, while Nintendo has 9 games that have crossed it handily. The Last of Us is one of those types of games that needs to sell well in its initial weeks. Being single player and story driven, all of its sales will come in those first weeks, because there is nothing there to keep people coming back years later or buying the game years after the fact. Once the story is widely known on the internet, that's it. If its gameplay is unimpressive (and it honestly looks like it is), then the story will probably be the only thing to carry it to great sales. A leak like this one is crippling to its chances of long term or even short term success.

Okay these videos aren't actually giving us any new info now; like, I get it: Geeks + Gamers got hit the hardest and he'll probably be the most vocal about from here on out, but most of the other videos posted in the thread contain shit we talked about days/weeks/months ago: I don't need to hear every single 1k+ sub YouTuber discuss how they're being oppressed by Naughty Dog or talking about the Like/Dislike bar on the video.
There's going to be no new info on TLOU until the moratorium on reviews is lifted in a few weeks.

It's not even being promoted by sony itself since everything has switched to Ghosts and Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and 3. Everything is at a standstill, especially since most of the takedowns are actually automatic.

This is similar to what Disney did with Infinity War being uploaded onto streaming sites, there's very few actual jannies at the controls and it's mostly algorithms going around and taking shit down.

I get that there's going to be a lot of overlap in coverage of things like this, and it'll vary in quality. Holy fuck, though, that Geeks and Gamers channel is fucking annoying. I wish Neil Cuckmann was the type to hire an actual Abby to go all, well, Abby on that Jeremey faggot. Then we'd get CCTV footage of xir getting into a Smart Car and leaving the scene.

That would be cool.

I don't see how any of that matters to anything I just said, or to the main idea of my posts, which is that the TLOU2 will potentially face bad sales because the leaks will have inordinately detrimental effect to the game due to the fact that its entirely driven on a story-based single player approach that could potentially be ruined by leaks such as this. At least if you are going to respond, respond to the main point.

The point was not that Sony's first party games tend to sell less than Nintendo's, which is just a point of fact, regardless of the age of the franchises in question (the only franchise that could be considered relatively "new" is The Last of Us itself; all the others, Sony or Nintendo, are over a decade old at this point). The point is that these Sony titles need those early sales to reach their higher numbers as they don't sell as well over longer periods of time like Nintendo's do, and TLOU2 will probably not sell well in the near or long term because the leaks have undermined it so much.
They're already expecting it to bomb which is why they moved the release schedule around for the quarter and refunded pre-orders. They now have Ghosts and a few third party games to act as buffers for the quarter. Even Final Fantasy 7 is still being sold in large numbers for both physical and for digital downloads. They're also going to be showing upcoming stuff for Horizon and bury TLOU that way.

It's not going to damage their game division long term though, the long term damage will be centered around naughty dog. Every single thing that was mismanaged was entirely their fault. They're either going to fold the studio or replace all the higher ups.

Nobody knows who the leaker is so in a situation like that, the studio heads are the ones who will take the brunt of the punishment.

Just a reminder that their last game, Uncharted Lost Legacy, only sold 1 miilion. Granted it is a spin-off, but a drop of 14 million sales from Uncharted 4's 15 million should worry ND a bit. I guess, they really need LOU2 to sell really, really, really well

It probably wouldn't have damaged the game division in a normal year, but this isn't a normal year. Corona-chan cometh, it seems the PS5 will probably get delayed to next year, and while Ghost of Tsushima may hit its target date, it is possible that any number of other Sony titles get delayed right out of this year, if they were slated to launch this year at all.

They put out a statement when the pandemic began that the total launch amount for the PS5 would be 6 million world wide. If they blow through the whole stock in a week that's not going to be damning. Especially since the PS4 will still have support and new games being released just like the PS3 still had support within the first two years of the PS4. But China lifted it's quarantine awhile back so who knows what a second wave will bring. Sony may just wind up moving everything manufacturing wise back to Japan because the Prime Minister is offering Japanese companies tax breaks to bring jobs back to japan.

But the pandemics is effecting everyone, all major console manufacturers still have shit in china and all had games pushed back.

@AnOminous's Harlan Ellison video brought to mind how SJWs love to make stories about, aliens, magic, etc, and then sideline the fantastic elements for drama and sex life garbage. This is a poorly publicized form of "write what you know". Science fiction authors are infamous for being bad at writing humanity, because they're nerds after all. SJWs hyperfocus on teenage nonsense flavored with identity politics, because all they've learned the easy way is gender studies and all they've learned the hard way is the drama of being a privileged degenerate. All exceptions prove the rule, since they ultimately came from knowing something that isn't gender studies. Bogleech for example.

Even a STEM autist can describe the expanded limits of what's possible in a way that a normalfag can appreciate, and even a normalfag can express the diversity of the human soul in a way that autists will appreciate, so long as it's an anime. The most artistically irredeemable SJW fiction is just extremely banal chats spiced with tantrums, like an alien made of pure twitter trying to contact us. This is the ultimate proof of how little worth social justice "phil"osophy possesses, that it cannot be communicated in an interesting way to people who're somewhat ignorant of it.

The only narrative of SJW esotericism that's believable is a coming of age story, where the protagonist learns that some rules are stupid. SJWs demand that this happens on a scale of millions in a single generation, like a bugfix in the human operating system, or the sudden death of metaphysical oppressors, or more accurately consequential inertia of thousands of misfortunate events just STOPPING.

People are being way too :optimistic: thinking it's gonna bomb. At worst I think it will underperform but still make a small profit. Journos are going to suck this games dick(female) until the cows come home. They'll try to make it seem like the people bashing the game are contrarians to the layman. And that's all before the payola Sony will no doubt offer, you'll get reviews like the Easy Allies one for The Last Guardian which was basically "Framerate is shit, tutorials never stop popping up, controls are ass, and the AI is annoying. 10/10".

I think it’ll still do well but definitely not what the developer were hoping for. In a year, the only thing people will care about that game are the memes.

I also believe that, even if the game underperforms at launch or shortly after launch, Sony will just stick the game with any type of bundle or offers they can to try and save face and go: "SEE?! OUR GAME SOLD MILLIONS!", Even to a 9th of those copies where sold at a fraction of the original price. It's what SE did to justify their ryona fetish Tomb Raider games, or what gamestores did to get rid of fallout 76.

Either way Sony is about to lose millions over this shitshow.
