One line I just heard while scrubbing through the show was "it's interesting that just because we are talking about female sexuality then we are suddenly going to talk about sexual misuse, because it's sooo dangerous that we desire sex" - camera cuts to Linda Thoren sitting in the audience while a 45 year old woman with a nose ring is saying that. Host asks nose ring woman, "group sex, is that something you would recommend to other women" and her answer is "to some extent" then goes into the virtues of group banging and having people stand around and watch you fuck.

Now there's a girl talking about how it's very good for your self-esteem to do porn. A critical woman interjects with a suggestion that all of this might be driven by forces that-nope, interrupted, can't suggest that. The 45 year old woman with nose ring woman says that if she were 19, like Linda Thoren, she might also shoot porn. The host calls shooting porn "affirming your sexuality".

This was in 1996 and it was around that time I started noticing that the fear mongering did not mesh with reality and at the same time it completely clashed with the sprouting "it's empowering!" sex positive feminism that would later encourage sex work and here we are.

For me, it's not necessarily the "alt" nature of Suicide Girls that's the issue. Most of the individual elements here I could probably deal with/overlook, even if I don't love them. (I dislike tats for the most part.) I mean, goth chicks can be pretty hot, so I can deal with some of this.
