If the government really wanted to cut down social gatherings in the park, they should consider removing every basketball hoop in town. The public blowback from that and the mental gymnastics would be hilarious to watch.

I don't have a link handy right now, But I'm pretty sure there's exactly that back a ways in this thread. Hoops removed, Nets removed and plywood bolted across as an obstruction, Every petty little no-fun-allowed tactic you could think of. Seems to get less coverage but definitely the sort of thing that makes a lasting impression.

Lots of stuff government does only works because mostly people are at least a bit willing to go along with it. They're going to run people right out of go-along and be all surprised when people just go and remove that crap and nobody at all saw who ripped it all out and hung up a net. No idea who it was at all, Just certain it wasn't those nice well behaved kids playing basketball right now, Officer. Then good luck getting cooperation when there's an actual, real need for it.

Didn't have the patience to watch a 3-hour hearing with Dr. Fauci, but I definitely read a transcript.

Basically, Fauci looked absolutely pissed and assmad when talking about the states that have started to re-open (in the highlights that I did watch). He, once again, bitched about the risks of re-opening before there's a vaccine.

He then proceeded to say that not only is a vaccine not even close to being finished, but that the vaccine might not be effective anyway. So I guess he expects us to be under lockdown indefinitely? Fuck you, Fauci. Trump deserves criticism here, too: I'm sick of Trump praising this guy every step of the way-- it gives him legitimacy when he's been consistently inconsistent!

The "cure" to this damn thing is herd immunity at this point. If we can't count on a vaccine to even work, then what options do we really have?

SARS from 2003 still has no vaccine, y'all. I think the idea of there being one for WuFlu is a pipe dream. Fauci is also the asshole that promised an AIDS vaccine back in the 90's too. Dude has had a history of absolute failure, yet he's treated like the only expert with any authority. Blows my mind.

Looks like Rand Paul questioned Fauci a bit on his ridiculous predictions (he wants to keep schools closed in the fall too and said that children don’t have complete immunity...um yeah complete immunity isn’t the goal you dolt)...too bad that Rand being a doctor as well won’t matter and people will ignore the legitimate concerns he brings up.

They removed basketball hoops, soccer nets, and tennis nets as of May 1st in my city.

I hadn’t read details of the proposal until recently and work at a software company...it sounded like some unattainable Jetsons crap to me, but politicians are clearly dumber and more willing to hand over bags of cash for something that sounds cool.

Surprisingly one of those has been used to great effect on one of the islands near NYC. Of course the island is 100% white and well above middle class, so everything is clean and well-maintained.

Because they are RNA viruses, they are nearly impossible to make an effective vaccine for. You are better off just embracing the coof.

Helo! News time. Hospital news: nothing new. We got some grade A autism going around specially by AAOO trying to take revenge on directives for calling them out and basically looking like fucking willy coyote. But there's a reunion about that later today so we'll see if ita relevant enough to update.

National news: so far no news. Hilariously enough the media has tried to claim lockdown lifting is death, again, despite the fact that now both right and left want it to end ASAP and are just doing it slowly to dodge the big spike. Don't fucking ask me why journos do this, they are journos, they are not logical creatures. Point is, to do this they tried to talk about how "germany was now seeing a massive spike due to the reopening and it's gonna be so bad", and sure enough social media is now filling with people linking the german covid graph and laughing their ass off. Because in case you don't know. Yes, germany yesterday had a few more cases than the day before, and about the same as the one before that, which is substantially less than any day before that one. And even better, cases are going down again, predictably. Just. Let me post it for those who haven't seen int. This is the german stats: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/germany/
The second to last gray bar here is the spike the journos were freaking out about:
20200513_104324.jpg

And in case the prior spike didn't make it obvious enough. This is how it looks in context:
20200513_104336.jpg

Now I may be no journalist. But it seems to me like they may be blowing it a tad out of proportion. Thankfuly with the pushback by scientists and STEM students happy to use this advantage to showcase the media's level of bullshit, all this is doing is increase the memes. So thank you A3Media for giving us these hearty lols. I don't know why you do it on the so called news cycle instead of the comedy shows. But hey. I'm lsughing all the same. And I don't know what that says about me.

On better news. A spanish research team was searching for better antimicrobians for a long time now. News is. They found more than they were expecting. First of, they found the antimicrobian sticks to surfaces and textiles and protects them for up to 7 days in concentrations that cause no side effects to non-microbes. Meaning it could be quite revolutionary in the fight for PPE. The second thing they did is, well, they tried it for corona. It works for corona, and the flu, and ecoli, and basically most things. I don't know how it works in detail. Indeed it seems the team didn't expect it to work this well so I wonder if even they have any clue how that went down. But either way this is pretty damned good and might start being manufactured this very summer. So whooray for new advances in the war against microbes like corona. Spain's bringing in the artillery! https://www.efe.com/efe/espana/soci...ejidos-de-covid-19-durante-dias/10004-4242769 also btw this could also be a game changer in the war against lockdowns. Because while I'm fairly sure at least for now it won't be applied to masks (it causes no side effects on sheets and clothes. But filters you actually sniff out of? They haven't tested for that yet and until they do I would not trust it.) It is already being commercialized to the hotels, transports and tourism industry, with guvernmental approval, meaning it could easily facilitate the reopening of western borders. And abusive lockdowns will last very little once people have the possibility to gtfo of there if they don't like them. So little hitlers beware. It seems spanish labs are taking our anti-authoritarian spirit of the past straight into the new battlefield, and they're fresh out of mercy.

Also the PP junta's Healthcare Consejero. Jesus Aguirre (not to be confused with the Aguirre that caused all the corrupt bullshit I talked about before. That was Esperanza Aguirre, some bitch from Madrid. Jesus is far less corrupt and far more loveable. He also doesn't know how powerpoint works, or why he can't just walk off to point at the graph with his finger while explaining something and leave his mic behind on the table during a press conference. Yeah he's an old fat boomer and a goof. I love it. Probably one of the best on the PP's roster.) Anyway point is. They sent that guy to make excuses for the Junta. And hilariously enough his communicate wound up admiting half the fucking shit they were accused of. But while the right wing has been facepalming and chuckling at the gaffe (reminder, PP is right wing but it seems their voters have stoped giving a shit at this point. And honestly. With good reason.) It seems this has actually endeared them to the left. Because he did stay honest. And the actual reasons he did give for why some of the fuckups were not their fault and annotations he made on how they did mitigate some others were actually quite true. And honesty goes a long way these days. Nothing spain hates more than lies nowadays. So his inability to politic might be his best trait.

Furthermore. This is causing a very, very interesting situation. As I said andalucia has been EXCLUSIVELY PSOE until last ellections when the right barely managed to win. So the Junta de Andalucia was basically on heavy scrutiny. And while I'm the first to bitch about how much they fucked some shit right up. They also did it much better than prior andalucia juntas. So while on a national level the PP is in a downward spiral of death, the andalucia junta specifically seems to be pulling off pretty well. And just like we see for congress elections (and therefore presidential ellections, 'cause here those are the same) the right wing is completely demorilized and the left united. For autonomic elections PP and Podemos are pulling the right and left wing vote respectively quite strongly, while ex-PSOE voters dread the possible return of Susana Diaz and Vox voters basically slither away into a hole. So the political landscape's gonna be fucking funny. This may seem weird but here in cadiz this situation happened, with right wing voters changing to Podemos to ensure Kichi won on Province level yet also left wing voters changing to PP on autonomy level to take out susanita. So this is quite an interesting(-ly fucked up and convoluted) scenario showcasing what happens when checks and balances aren't sufficient if nothing else. And I like it quite a bit. Because I must admit, the PP junta really has helped cadiz just like Kichi is also helping us quite a bit. So. I will not debate against the results.

Finally. One of Vox's deputies gets interned for thrombus on leg and lungs possibly affected by corona. https://elpais.com/espana/2020-05-1...lmones-como-consecuencia-del-coronavirus.html now as you know my view on Vox is... fucking complicated. And I went from loving them at first to wind up hating them. Well I still hate the party but this is one of the cases where I also gotta respect the individual. As he has tried to help with morale from the hospital and helped calm the situation. So hat off for the guy. That said. What El Pais doesn't say is that the reason his thrombus got so fucked, and affected his ankles and lungs, is because after having a severe case of corona that required hospitalization and caused some scarring and side effects. As soon as they relieved him from the hospital instead of taking it easy and listening to his docs he decided to RUN FOR HOURS AT MARATHON SPEEDS. Now. I may not be one to talk as I fucking wrecked my body the first day I was allowed to exercize. But I must take this moment to remind people. If your lungs are scarred after a severe infection and your inflamatory response is still quite jumpy. Putting your body under some of the heaviest stress you can cause immediately after being discharged is REALLY FUCKING STUPID. Much like the lockdowns, you should lift the rest surely but gradually as you feel better while looking for any relapse. Because if you don't. This is what happens. Just... I can't be mad really. But damn that was retarded.

Oh and btw since I keep forgetting to update you on my walks. Yeah all of cadiz is still going for daily walks. You can see pretty much the entire city out. It seems people really have gotten used to a healthier lifestyle. I get it really. When I started doing exercize regularly again after having dropped it my first year of uni I realized just how good running felt and I didn't wanna stop until exam season came and made me stop temporarily. Exercizing really does feel really fucking good on a chemical level. I'm glad spaniards noticed. Hope we keep it up.

EDIT: international news! Merkel popped up claiming it would be "very depressing if we walk back the gained ground", people answer "what gained ground?", and some new WHO twat (WHO twat come dime a dozen lately. They've had to keep changing spokesperson as the newest fucked it up. They seem not to notice it's not the twats we hate but the WHO itself), calling for "all of europe to deescalate at the same path", literally trying to say spain shouldn't keep deescalating until the EU authorizes, and trying to claim no one will be immune to the virus and as soon as the lockdown is lifted we'll be back at peak.

Of course as spaniah experts have kept saying the very opposite, your average spaniard hates the EU even more than we hate our own idiots in charge (which is saying something) and we know better from the lack of spike, this has only pissed off social media and helped to remind us "oh yeah we did want to secede didn't we? Guess it's time to dust off the push for the moncloa pact."

I guess this explains media going apeshit and claiming germany is having oh such an evil spike. It's the EU, WHO and Merkel globalists trying to regain control. And failing miserably. Spoiler idiots. With the right wing going to shit you had gotten at least a few months with spain ignoring europe but not going full spexit as we are busy fixing our own assholes. Hoping you disappeared into the background to extend that time was the right call. Trying to push us more only adds you to the middle of the battle again. You can gain nothing but pain poking us at this point. Specially when you call for even less sovereignty for spain. That's about as braindead a message as you could use in this climate.

EDIT2: Also it seems airlines to spain literally have their planes fully booked for the next month since we opened frontiers. So if you're wondering why Merkel's now fucking with spain again. My best guess is, aside from the fact that the EU ALWAYS overreaches and its obviously trying to weaponize the lifts under the "never let a good crisis go to waste" mentality. I'm fairly sure Merkel just realized what I explained about the antibiotic. Namely as soon as people get the choice to take a flight and GTFO of the area the tyrannical lockdowns get quickly assraped as the exodus maximizes the pain. And with half of germany going on vacation simultaneously and going to a country that is lifting it partially merkel's political situation just cratered. This is why tyrants always collapse under their own weight, people. All you need is 1 alternative and fwop. Their base erodes faster than they can control it

Things I've learned in the last week:

This virus can cause meningitis even in young healthy people.

The virus can get in through your eyes more than your nose or mouth through aerosols

It is more contagious than measles
Is this genius satire or seriously re:tarded?

Some, undoubtedly. Some people are no more than sheep.

All the states that are on fire right now are Democratic strongholds. This will be interesting. The dindus will vote for whoever keeps their welfare gravy train rolling but if the government has to reduce welfare payments because there is not enough tax revenue to afford it, these people will vote against the incumbents in a heartbeat.

All movie theaters are still closed. Despite Hollywood's inability to stop screaming "ORANGE MAN BAD" they will refuse to endorse candidates that don't play nice with Hollywood. Locking down all movie studios because some Chinaman ate a raw bat seems to be the opposite of that.

People want mail-in ballots to be a thing. Considering you need a valid US address in order to vote absentee the Democrats will miss out on all those votes from people of questionable immigration status, convicted felons and welfare cheats who are collecting benefits under multiple names and addresses. And you better believe that Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith, who have been prevented from seeing their grandkids for over 2 months by order of the state, will absolutely vote against the assholes responsible for turning their state into East Germany.

More on Vitamin D from Dr. Campbell. I'm convinced. And even if it's wrong you've only wasted a few pennies a day on Vitamin D pills.

https://archive.vn/wip/dpkZl

MedScape article by Dr Manson

It's paywalled but you can read it via archive

https://archive.vn/ueoX4

Gist of it here

Vitamin D is important to innate immunity and boosts immune function against viral diseases. We also know that vitamin D has an immune-modulating effect and can lower inflammation, and this may be relevant to the respiratory response during COVID-19 and the cytokine storm that's been demonstrated.

There are laboratory (cell-culture) studies of respiratory cells that document some of these effects of vitamin D. There's also evidence that patients with respiratory infections tend to have lower blood levels of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D.

There's now some evidence from COVID-19 patients as well. In an observational study from three South Asian hospitals, the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was much higher among those with severe COVID illness compared with those with mild illness. In fact, there was about an eightfold higher risk of having severe illness among those who entered with vitamin D deficiency compared with those who had sufficient vitamin D levels.

There's also evidence from a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials of vitamin D supplementation looking at acute respiratory tract infections (upper and lower). This was published in the British Medical Journal 2 years ago, showing that vitamin D supplementation was associated with a significant reduction in these respiratory tract infections. Overall, it was only a 12% reduction, but among the participants who had profound vitamin D deficiency at baseline (such as a blood level of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D of less than 10 ng/mL), there was a 70% lower risk of respiratory infection with vitamin D supplementation.

So the evidence is becoming quite compelling. It's important that we encourage our patients to be outdoors and physically active, while maintaining social distancing. This will lead to increased synthesis of vitamin D in the skin, just from the incidental sun exposure.

Diet is also important. Everyone should be reading food labels which list the vitamin D content. Food sources that are higher in vitamin D include fortified dairy products, fortified cereals, fatty fish, and sun-dried mushrooms.

For patients who are unable to be outdoors and also have low dietary intake of vitamin D, it's quite reasonable to consider a vitamin D supplement. The recommended dietary allowance of vitamin D is 600-800 IU/daily, but during this period, a multivitamin or supplement containing 1000-2000 IU/daily of vitamin D would be reasonable.

We are in the process of planning a randomized clinical trial of vitamin D supplementation in moderate to high doses to see whether it has a role in the risk of developing COVID-19 infections and also in reducing the severity of disease and improving clinical outcomes.

In the meantime, it's important to encourage measures that will, on a population-wide basis, reduce the risk for vitamin D deficiency.
Thank you so much for your attention. This is JoAnn Manson. Stay safe.

And then there's NAC which MedCram reckons is protective. Here's an article on whether it has any downsides

https://archive.vn/0hWIj

I think I'll pick some of this up next time I walk past my local health food place which seems to be immune to the shortages of any shit which may possibly protect people from the dreaded coof.

The Spike in germany will come soon. idiots from the EU are doing everything to open up the borders...

Open the borders! Lockdown the natives, crippling the economy! Oh no, why is Euroscepticism growing! It must be far-right Russian bots!

The Spike in germany will come soon. idiots from the EU are doing everything to open up the borders...

The EU is telling you to open? They're telling us to close! What kinds game is the EU playing at here? It's almost like they just want everyone to hate them.

Honestly I'd say a spike caused by that wouldn't be that bad so long as you test at airports and only have to deal with the tourism spike. Do note how every time there's been a real massive outbreak it was because of either work related large masses or due to massified travel due to a specific event. (Like chinese going to italy post new year and italians going to NY post carnaval), so the spike can definitely be controlled without lockdowns just with proper PPE, risk group control and border control. At least so long as it's just tourists anyway. I mean Angela has now had quite a while to prepare the logistics for that shit. She'd have to be incredibly idiotic or completely insane not to do it. And she's a total bitch, but she's not that stupid and not that crazy. Specially when we always knew it was unavoidable that the infections would keep happening. That's why the plan was always to flatten the curve to controlled levels, not erradicate it. Nothing can erradicate it. Well actually now that we got the new antimicrobe it might. But that's a maybe.
