Here's the thing, I really couldn't care less if people headcanon Naoto as trans or something. That's all on them and I completely understand why they'd do it. But it's another thing to completely overlook her character development just to go "Well actually Naoto's trans and Atlus is wrong and you're wrong." The reason Naoto even identifies as male at first is because the sexism she faced at her job made her ashamed of being female, but she learns to accept herself after the party saves her from the Midnight Channel.
Naoto's arc could work as a trans allegory, but not in a game from 2008, and not from a canonically female character whose conflict was "I felt I had to be male to live my dream." (If reading that through pink and blue glasses, that'd make it sound more like she's MtF.) These are probably the same fans who came to the "Kanji is gay" conclusion, even though that's not what his arc is about either. Might as well shrug off Aigis's development and constantly refer to her as an emotionless robot. Or call Ann nothing but a slut and walking fanservice. The point is the fans who scream "NAOTO IS TRANS/KANJI IS GAY" don't put any critical thought into their stories or character development before making these posts.

Wanting trans representation in media is fine, but you have to look for media with actual confirmed transgender characters and not be The Boy Who Cried Trans, because honestly, that's doing the community more harm than good.

Besides, these people do know there's a canon trans character Atlus did handle poorly, right?
