The Skeptic Community - Pseudo-intellectuals ranting on Youtube

Dave Rubin spoke at Liberty University (because, y’know, speaking at an evangelical Christian college run by Jerry Falwell’s son is totally something a skeptic would do) the other day and of course, we got his usual cringeworthy spiel that’s been repeated ad nauseam to this point that “Conservatives are the TRUE and HONEST defenders of liberalism”:

If you want to see just how much Liberty University is committed to “free speech, open dialogue, personal liberty”, I recommend checking out this post which explains it pretty well.

It’s so pathetic watching this dude act as boomer-tier conservatism’s bitch boy and pretend he’s presenting brave new ideas and that his show is the ultimate free speech platform, while running and hiding whenever someone who’s critical of him asks to be interviewed.

There's something just so archetypal of clown world in an openly anti-Christian Jew being held up as a paragon by an allegedly trad Christian college.

So are skeptics still around? I've stopped hearing "skeptic" since between the Kilroy event and the IBS era. It looks like half of them became failures while the other half became neocons.

The skeptosphere is kinda dead and everyone has moved on. Shoe and Armored became leftoids, Sargon killed a political party, potholer (only tangentially a skeptic) started taking crazy pills and joined the climate catastrophist movement, and Thunderfoot is mostly irrelevant.

The lone soldier ShortFatOtoku is still at war with the blue hairs I believe.

All that’s really left of the old skeptosphere these days is Sargon and his orbiters, who are doing everything they can to keep YouTube in a 2014-2016 time warp because it’s the last time they were relevant and well-regarded. I know Sargon’s mocked on here relentlessly, but he still has a fairly sizeable audience of true believers who genuinely think that him puppetering UKIP’s dying body to a final humiliation was a brilliant piece of 4D chess and that any day he’ll unveil the next phase of his genius plan to save the West. It’s very sad.

The good news is, more people are getting fed up with this stuff every day, and it’s now increasingly rare that a video criticising Sargon will be instantly dogpiled and ratio’d, which used to happen all the time. YouTube anti-SJWism has been running on fumes for about three years now. YouTube atheism lasted about 6 years, and finally died when GamerGate came along in late 2014, so if that’s anything to go off, time is very short for the Soyfather.

I agree with your overall sentiment but your timeline for the Youtube Atheists is off by around 2 years. The earliest of them started popping up around late 06, with them starting to really get a boost in 07 thanks to the Intelligent Design movement having seriously galvanized opposition against itself by that point. As a connected group/"community", the Youtube Atheists were already showing severe signs of division by the end of 2010, only for everything to blow up on them in mid-2011 with Elevatorgate splitting them into two camps and being then followed by Atheism+ in 2012 causing an even further shattering with a lot of animonsity between all the camps. By the end of 2013, the only people actively making atheism videos were the true (non)believers who had nothing else going on in their lives like BionicDance or those whose income was directly tied to talking about being an atheist like TheThinkingAtheist.

Most of the Youtube atheists drifted into obscurity and some into other topics. Years later, a lot of the anti-elevatorgaters provided the ideological seeding/structure for the anti-SJW crowd while GG provided the new blood and energy. Now, I had no involvement in GG at any point (because some things are too autistic even for me to enjoy laughing at) but it wouldn't shock me if anti-elevatorgaters had a hand in shaping it in the early stages - especially considering how hard Thunderf00t jumped on that shit later as GG shifted into the larger anti-SJW movement.

Another element to the story of internet atheism is the fact that it was, by dint of its makeup, largely a project of the political left and so when it was calling Christians stupid for trying to force intelligent design it was all kosher but when it came time to examine why Muslims are a problem it found itself without allies unless they pledged allegiance to the Dildo™

Many have. It's made several former fans see them as hypocrites, when in reality, they had been just following trends to begin with, or going through edgy phases. Unfortunately for them, they marketed themselves as having 'principles', so it seems to have created a genre of people calling them out as hypocrites.

Its hard to chase politcal trends because people expect you to use your brain and no one these days using their brain when on politics.

A lot have already. Shoe did.
I wouldn't say Shoe is a breadtuber now but most people who used to identify as anti-sjw but not right wing are "breadtube-adjacent" now, this includes even non-political channels like Anthony Fantano.

Really just more proof that these people will only ever cuck for the status quo and say whatever is popular at their time and place in history, in regards to youtube at least. I think they're going to have to change sides for pure grift a couple more times before people start noticing a pattern though.

Roaming Millenial is the only person from skeptic-clique era Youtube who is doing anything like well and she wasn't even technically one of them.
