I doubt he’s got a current relationship with the FBI, either as an informant or staff.
It’s more likely that they simply can’t find him easily, and he’s not important enough to justify using more sophisticated investigative resources. Compared to murders, rapes, wire fraud, etc., Corey’s antics just aren’t severe enough to warrant that kind of effort. If you look at most SWATing prosecutions, they usually involve the victim getting shot or at least arrested. Until that happens, I don’t expect anything to happen.
That said, if he’s responsible for this Ring baby monitor stunt, that might be enough. FWIW, Corey denies being the culprit.

This might be comment necrophilia but either a) zoom is a federal informant or b) he's sliding just under the radar enough anyone who would be looking into that stuff wouldn't care; as in it would be too much work for a probably not guilty verdict if zoomie lawyer'ed up.

He's been pretty open about committing federal felonies, including receiving exploitative material from underaged people and felony computer crimes. The only person I know who is like him in terms of personality and actions is Laurelai Bailey, who is a confirmed federal informant.

This is where the real "trolling" begins.
Note: Also bragging about their greatest accomplishment in life, spray painting a pill popping alcoholic's car.

It's extremely unlikely that Corey is presently a Confidential Informant, if he ever was. For one thing, CIs are closely monitored by their handlers ("case agents"), who in turn are closely monitored by their supervisors, the DOJ, and the courts. The DOJ maintains a manual of strict CI Guidelines, and the FBI cannot use an informant without written DOJ authorization. The scope of a CI's role is strictly limited by written instructions which the CI must sign. Those instructions provide, inter alia, that "the CI must abide by the instructions of the FBI," that "the FBI on its own cannot promise or agree to any immunity from prosecution . . . since the decision to confer any such benefit lies within the exclusive discretion of the Federal Prosecutor's Office and the Court," and that "the CI has not been authorized to engage in any criminal activity and has no immunity from prosecution for any unauthorized criminal activity." If Cory were presently a CI for the FBI, numerous people in the FBI and DOJ would have to approve it, and his handlers would surely be aware of his criminal activities. Unless those crimes are specifically authorized (for example, as part of a sting operation), Corey's conduct constitutes "unauthorized criminal activity" that would subject him to prosecution, and a negative suitability determination. What are the chances that the FBI specifically authorized Corey to harass an 8-year-old girl by hacking into her Ring security camera? Not likely. What are the chances that Corey's handlers would risk their own careers by covering for this sort of behavior? Not likely. What are the chances FBI and DOJ supervisors would sanction this behavior, thereby subjecting their respective departments to an embarrassing scandal? Not likely.
In short, the fact that Corey hasn't been arrested suggests that he's not currently a CI. It is more likely that his crimes heretofore haven't justified the time, effort, and expense required to track him down.

Yeah well, that's what's supposed to happen but the whole program is rife with cases of these cunts using some incredibly horrible criminal who serially uses his CI status to fuck over his rivals in drug dealing or whatever, while prosecuting people a lot less bad than their own CI. That said I doubt this happened here. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's a garden variety snitch who rats people out for revenge, but I would be if he's an actual CI with official status, which you're right is a completely different status for much more valuable people.

True, there is a history of abuses where the FBI basically protected criminal enterprises under auspices of its CI program. They reformed the whole program a few years ago because of it. But those were always criminals with high status in their "fields" of crime and, crucially, moving millions of dollars (think mob bosses, e.g., Whitey Bulger, etc.). To be fair, I'm sure abuses still happen with rich and powerful criminals. But rich and powerful Corey Barnhill is not.
And yeah, if Corey had a relationship with the FBI, it was likely as a "Cooperating Witness" rather than as a "Confidential Informant."
