The troons in the thread are without a doubt completely misrepresenting his point. Talking to people with bigoted viewpoints, treating them like an adult while deconstructing their broken views is precisely how you reform them. Getting violent like Antifa likes to do only reinforces their bigoted views. This is the exact strategy that Daryl Davis uses to convince Klan members to leave the cult.As far as fantasies go, I can get wanting people backing shit you don't like to suffer. On that same note though, it would make one wonder if legit shit people can also act as a smokescreen for one to indulge in some sort of violent thoughts. Not to mention, much as Coffin can be some sort of sperg or whatever the hell he does in political videos on Youtube, his point isn't even "excusing transphobes" or giving them shelter and the like so much as considering the idea they could be redeemed and changing their views around before they end up being in some sort of irredeemable pit of hatred. Beyond that, his tweet is also one more likely to hit the strings of someone that actually does know and possibly love someone whose transphobia ranges from having a disagreeing view to being full-on "kill all trans."
The problem they don't realize is that this strategy only really works when your non-bigoted ideas are grounded in reality, and saying "men who wear dresses and pretty makeup are just as much a woman as one born with a vagina," is as about as divorced from reality as it can get. It's no wonder why Blaine Klutchko had so much trouble trying to "reform" their "bigot."
