Doug specifically was never going to last. You could tell in those initial streams EVS got him on that both of them had big personalities and there was just a ton of conflict after Doug (Doug v Mike, Doug v Cecil etc) showed up. I appreciate Doug’s creativity and work ethic, but it’s for the best he’s not involved with CG anymore. I don't know if you missed it but Nasser said Ethan threw him under a bus. It's possible that he doesn't want to rejoin the gang because he thinks (with good reason) that they fucked him over.
