Criminal probe opened into explosion at hash oil supplier in downtown LA that injured a dozen firefighters who had to crawl through a wall of flame to escape as their helmets melted
Police and fire investigators launched a criminal probe Sunday into the cause of an explosion at a hash oil manufacturer in downtown Los Angeles that sent firefighters running for their lives.
Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's major crimes division were working with the city Fire Department's arson investigators to determine what might have sparked the blast that shot a ball of flames out of the building Saturday night and scorched a fire truck across the street, police spokesman Josh Rubenstein said.
'We're in the very early stages of the investigation ... to understand what happened and figure out how to move forward,' he said.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was assisting local fire investigators, an agency spokeswoman said.
The blast injured a dozen firefighters. Some of them who ran out onto sidewalks, where they tore off their burning protective equipment, including melted helmets, officials said.
'Everybody off the roof!' a firefighter shouted in scanner traffic captured on Broadcastify.com.
'Mayday mayday mayday! All companies out of the building. Mayday mayday mayday!' another shouted.
Firefighters first thought they were battling a routine structure fire, city fire Capt. Erik Scott told KNX Radio, but as they got a little farther in the building they started to hear 'a loud hissing sound and a significant rumbling that you could feel vibrating throughout the area.'
He said 'one significant explosion' shook the neighborhood around 6:30 p.m. Firefighters inside had to run through a wall of flames he estimated as 30 feet (9 meters) high and wide, and those on the roof scrambled down a ladder that was engulfed in flames.
Three firefighters were released after spending the night in the hospital, fire department spokesman Nicholas Prange said Sunday.
Of the eight who remained hospitalized, two were in critical but stable condition, he said. Officials initially announced that 11 firefighters were injured. But Prange said a 12th was treated and released for a minor injury.
All were expected to survive.
'Things could have been so much worse,' said Los Angeles Fire Department Medical Director Dr. Marc Eckstein, who helped treat the injured at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center.
tl;dr, not supposed to use butane to extract THC in the city. And not in urban areas. Something to do with a risk of 30 foot fireballs if the place catches on fire.
Are you blind? Quit shielding these guys because they are into your dumb thing. They were pretty obviously playing pretty fast and loose with OSHA HAZMAT rules. You don't get gas-main break level fireballs from a fire of simple butane canisters.I'm going to call bullshit on them manufacturing BHO which sounds like they're trying to push an anti-Marijuana agenda/get this story to more eyeballs. If you go to the company's website they look just like a run of the mill online head shop. As you pointed out butane has many uses beyond manufacturing cannabis oil.
I live in LA and am pretty big in the weed scene, and that area is all exclusively vape/weed store supply wholesalers so IMO it sounds like they had a bunch of canned butane somehow ignite.
There's rules for handling flammable gasses for a reason. Especially if you are using it as an industrial solvent and now a bunch of people are hurt because dude weed we don't obey the rules maaaaaaaaan.
Stoners should operate Butane...I live in LA and am pretty big in the weed scene, and that area is all exclusively vape/weed store supply wholesalers so IMO it sounds like they had a bunch of canned butane somehow ignite.
Its vile. you want the best high possible? use Kief and a Sebsi.More effective and potent, the high is cleaner and faster hitting, and no need to deal with burnt/vaped flower,
well, best abolish fossil fuel cars and go full electro next time a plant or gas station explodes because someone was exceptional. that's gonna fix it for sure...
Is it not sufficient to just leave it for a while and let to butane evaporate or is it stable at room temperature when mixed with the hash oil? Do they just want it quickly or is it actually necessary to heat it?In order to smoke it and not poison yourself you have to burn off ALL the butane with heat, usually a heating element below the glass dish
The actual oil isnt bad, its just the butane without proper ventilation. It has to be completely cooked out of the oil, some people go further and use a vacuum chamber to get the residuals out after the cooking. Is it not sufficient to just leave it for a while and let to butane evaporate or is it stable at room temperature when mixed with the hash oil? Do they just want it quickly or is it actually necessary to heat it?
some faggot in a queer as fuck store named Smokes Tokes
The problem with Vaping (and mannn I called this years ago) is and always will be the cleanliness factor. People are inherently lazy on keeping shit clean. I knew this from my Hooka/bikers days. I few of my buddies had respiratory infections which became serious.Vaping is gay.
Los Angeles fire chief has lost the use of both of his hands after getting his crew to safety before crawling through a fireball to escape terrifying blaze at hash oil factory

A Los Angeles fire captain has lost the use of both of his hands after he made sure his crew was safe before escaping a terrifying inferno at a hash oil warehouse at the weekend.
Captain Victor Aguirre was the most seriously injured in the explosion at Smoke Tokes, a distributor and wholesaler of smoking and vaping products, in Downtown LA Saturday night, suffering third-degree burns and losing the use of both hands.
Aguirre is one of 12 firefighters who suffered injuries after they had to run through a wall of flames estimated to be as much as 30 feet high and wide, when the flaming building suddenly exploded without warning.
The LAFD is now investigating the cause of the explosion and has said it will launch a review into the way vape and smoke shops store volatile materials across the city, putting firefighters' lives at increased risk when responding to incidents.
Aguirre has been hailed a hero by LA Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas who said the father of two put the lives of his crew before his own when they found themselves engulfed by flames.
'I have to say I am so impressed with Capt. Aguirre,' Terrazas told KTLA Thursday.
'He was the last one off the roof. He made sure all of his firefighters were down before he exited the roof.'
Aguirre was said to be working an overtime shift the night of the tragedy.
A GoFundMe page set up for him and his family had reached $149,350 of its $150,000 target by 2pm Friday.
Best bet? Let them break off from the USA. Leave an open channel for the millions that want out, and help them resettle in other parts of the country as long as they leave their california programing behind and then leave the rest who wanna stay in cali stay there. Watch as all the big companies pull the fuck out and panic because they're no longer protected by Big Daddy Goverment. Watch as those places become controlled by the various cartels of Mexico. Let it slide into the shitter, then after a few years, offer it State ship again if the people of California agree.los angeles is in big trouble. much more then this issue. the city is a virtual time bomb... illegal aliens and non residents are
ruining the state and the democrat party is pushing for a full on socialist commie govt big daddy approach as the cities like
hollywood and glendale, burbank and the rest are changing too fast and not in a good way. urban blight along with the rude
attitude and the fact most residents have fled to other states like texas and nevada to get away from the madness. if you live
here you see it is very dangerous and getting worse. bum piss, defecation and homeless drug addicts, dangerous mentally
disturbed transexuals and psychotics threatening you as well as places like beverly hills where 'persian' (iraqi) youth race
200,000 dollar sports cars all over the city at night... very scary if you live here you know what i'm talking about. it's time
for someone to flush the toilet california is full of shit and sadly that state has lost in the long run... best climate, worst people.
