People need to understand while this will hurt Twitter, Facebook, etc, it will hurt everyone else EVEN MORE. GooMyFaceYouTwit can afford the lawyers necessary to remain open, and they're pretty much the only ones. If we lose 230, you're handing the current big boys a government enforced monopoly from now until the end of time, because nobody could ever afford startup costs again.

In what fucking universe do you think that Kimdotcom wouldn't be cashing out either? 230 protects all the hosting sites he owns. Almost every fucking file on those sites would then become a legal liability for him since it's basically all copyright infringed.

What a complete and total piece of shit. Fuck, even through all Trump's ultra-spergery over the past 4 years I've still stuck by the man, completely seeing him as the lesser of evils and even at times as "our guy", but this is just unforgivable. If Trump pushes this, I'm pushing him out of office. He's irredeemable.

Also, the fucking timing, right? The Vice France article on lolcows/KF comes out glazing over 230 without fully explaining the dangers of revocation and then BAM! Trump goes fully eXcEPtiOnAL.

Rate me optimistic but they're probably doing it. A lot of corpos, especially Alphabet, will get financially hurt by this. If I'm not mistaken, every conglomerate under the sun is now exposed to the whims of their userbase.

@Null I think it is clear his goal with this executive order is to threaten to remove the protection of Section 230 of the law by treating the monolithic platforms as publishers, and not by appealing the law itself. The executive order itself doesn't do anything except build a committee to review the censorship complaints submitted to some brand new government department.

I am not saying that Trump can't fuck things up for everyone, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was more of a warning shot designed to scare Twitter into backing down then an actual first step to repeal 230.

Me personally, I won't panic about this until Rekieta tells me to panic about this.

If anyone, especially the government, is threatening me with any type of bullshit legal action the first go reaction would be a big "Eat shit faggot go fuck yourself." Null does this all the time.
