Ironically they're completely right about JK Rowling sucking at writing activists
I dunno. Hermione is a teenage girl who gets passionate about a cause she only shallowly understands, speaking over the group she claims to represent and ignoring their wishes because she thinks she knows better, unable to see them through anything other than the prism of her own view of the world.
Sounds like she nailed it to me.
In their eyes, Rowling is halfway to being conservative; anyone not completely in lockstep with their ideology and is left of Marx might as well be a hardcore right winger. These are the same people that think Rebecca Sugar isn’t woke enough.
Oh, no, Rowling's a full on Nazi to that small but ever-vocal group that think she's a TERF, because TERFs are all Nazis. Because people tend to (or at least used to) get embarrassed by the obsessions of their childhood, a lot of handmaidens are happy to call her out in that SJW 'I can't believe I used to like that stuff, how problematic,' way. It helps that she's not adding anything particularly worthwhile to the Harry Potter story, at least at the moment - much easier to boycott a series of books you've already read a dozen times, after all.
The real challenge would be if she a) writes more Harry Potter stuff set in the future not the past, b) doesn't fuck it up like the last film, and/or c) the troons try to go full book-burning on her, because while the handmaidens are happy to dismiss Rowling now, if they had to full-on disavow and never refer to or have fond memories of the series again on pain of punishment for wrongthink, there's going to be a lot of people unwilling to give up a key part of their childhood to a screaming dangerhair with endless demands and no understanding of sacrifice.
