IMO it depends on what 'reparations' take the form of, and how they're spun in the media.

I.e. I could see the Republicans just doing a one-time cash payment + black entrepreneurial/construction programs VS Democrats being insistent on eliminating the police and setting up 3 gazillion 'equity' programs.

Again, 'reparations' is an incredibly loose term.

I've said this before but I would love to see them try to set rules for who qualifies for who gets reparations and who doesn't. I hope the government is willing to pay for a lot of DNA tests because reparations would create millions of Sean King/Rachel Dolezal types overnight.

When engaging in self defense within the legal constraints of the law it's supposed to create a process by which you can defend yourself without having to go through a legal battle or review. For instance: you are in your home (or in a situation where you can legally be armed CCW, Business, Etc) and you are attacked or in danger (depending on the laws in your state) you can fight off/shoot the assailant and then wait for the cops to show up and collect evidence and statements if they are available and then release you are on the grounds of self defense. This easy process has been changed into a court and media battle whenever a black person is shot by a white-ish person and creates this need for a dialogue/rioting from the black community. This process should be more straight forward with the cops than making it so that they have to get explicit permission whenever they need to lay a hand on anybody, they are given a certain amount of leniency due to the fact there job involves getting into dangerous situations and needing to subdue people who don't want to be subdued. When there is a blatant abuse of power and violence it generally does go through the process of litigation and they can be charged for excessive force. I don't see the cops looking out for their own as being much different than the criminals looking out for their own, somehow Not being a snitch and not allowing people around you to get taken down on the hood side is valiant and on the badge side is reprehensible. I think cops can be dicks but when you're dealing with the people that live in this country now it's a far cry from the cops of old dealing with majority white people who weren't calling all cops bastards and blaming their situation on racism.

I think it's hard for them to make official demands since BLM and all the groups involved don't have a clear leadership structure. The owner of BET said black people should get 14 trillion dollars in reparations, and Ive seen SOME protesters supporting that but again, it's just some of them (not that they're likely to all compromise on something).
I think that's another major difference between the rioters and the major civil rights groups in the 60s. MLK and Malcolm X were figureheads of their respective movements and were well-known. Who does BLM have? Sean King? Talcum X?
