Had a long commute today and listened to an NPR interview with one of the BLM co-founders, a woman named Patrisse Cullors.

Among the more exceptional demands, BLM wants police defunded and that money channeled back into the black community. For some reason it seems to have escaped Cullors that a) police serve everyone, not just one group; and that b) I’m willing to bet the majority of police resources in a place like Chicago already go towards the black community as it is, investigating black crime, services for black victims, etc.

She also had this quote: “And so what we’re asking for is a reinvestment in how we understand what’s needed in our communities. Why is law enforcement the first responders for a mental health crisis? Why are they the first responders for domestic violence issues? Why are they the first responders for homelessness?”

Better mental health training could absolutely assist cops in understanding and deescalating incidents involving the mentally ill. But domestic violence? Come the fuck on lady— if a guy has a gun on his wife, if an adult child is threatening his elderly mother, if a parent is beating their son— who the fuck are you supposed to call?

Does Cullors even have a background in mental health, law, or law enforcement? No, she has a degree in philosophy from UCLA and is a “activist, artist and playwright” according to her bio.

Just had my sister lecture me on white privilege today. She claims that white people have never suffered as much as “POC”. I mean, depending on the country that might be true, but to say it’s true all across the board is false. During the Haitian Revolution, even white people sympathetic to the cause were killed it they didn’t leave. In Zimbabwe, white farmers were killed to give land to the government and created one of the worst famines in modern history. In South Africa, the same thing is happening to white farmers as well. During WWII, Slavs were killed in around the same numbers as Jews because Slavs weren’t “true Aryans”. In Japan, any foreigners that live there are never able to achieve high positions. In the medieval period, there was the Barbary slave trade in which Arabs enslaved blacks and whites. I wish I could talk to her about this, but she still probably won’t believe me

They aimed to convert the locals, yes, but conversions needed to be done by persuasion and not by force. Most of our knowledge about pre-industrial foreign cultures come from their detailed ethnographical studies. The spanish destruction of mesoamerica doesnt hold a candle to what the aztecs destroyed when they took power, or what the mongols did to Samarkand. We know of Barolome de las casas and plenty of others who were self critical and thought the conquest was too violent, but no mongol officer ever went lets not build pyramids of skulls everywhere k?

3) Europe, for all its modern day comfort, used to be a harsh living environment. Not as harsh as the Inuit had it, but far from easy. The ground is hard to cultivate and not very fertile (except ukraine). Most foodstuffs (used to) have a narrow period of growth. Natural resources are scarce, except for coal and iron ore, and those can also be found in plenty of other regions. It's cold and damp the majority of the year, wood needs to be cut ahead of time and stored very carefully or it just wont burn.

4) Europe was transformed into its current form either by serf labor (forced like slaves) (f.e. french roads and channels, dutch polders, british enclosures, eastern european grain estates) or by exploited day workers (industrial revolution)

Any idea of "white privilege" is completely a-historical and retarded. Europeans toiled just like any other race for a better future. We simply did it better because (quick personal theory) we're not particularly smarter or stronger than other races, but there is a greater sense of self sacrifice, altruism and duty within europeans.

It predicts better than the poverty rate, median household income, racial segregation, income segregation, education rates, and so on and so forth.

It's considered evil in social justice to talk about class/poverty issues that have affected whites for generations in many parts of the US, particularly in Appalachia and the Rust Belt. It ruins their "victims of the white devil" narrative.

And like I said above, public school is useless. The curriculum actively hurts and hinders inner-city kids. Any kid with promise has to find a voucher to a legit charter school or receive a scholarship to a private school.

I liked hearing his talking points, because he wasn't acting like an ass about them. Some more were that his impression was that cops go in with the intent to arrest too often; there was a video of some black family calling in a looting of their business, and the police showed up and were arresting the family and only stopped when some journo yelled a bunch that they weren't them. I ought to look for a video of that. He goes on to tie it in to overcrowding of the prison system, which as a taxpayer I have to say 'fair enough'. I'm sure there are more than enough people serving time whose crime was probably just posessing pot or some shit.
