"Tear down the system" isn't a cause for them, it's an excuse, and at no point has it occurred to them that violence travels both ways without regard to how amazing you are.

He attempted to use that fake 20 dollar bill to pay for it (and maybe he didn't know it was fake when he attempted to pay with it), but instead of pulling out other money to pay for them or putting them back, he left the store with them. That's still theft and it is still against the law. And if he was sitting behind the wheel and impaired, that's usually an offense, too. It is in my state. You don't even have to be driving at the time to be arrested for it. As long as it looks like you've recently driven there or you are about to drive.
